catheryn reacted to Scully in My Single Incision 8/17I had single incision too - doctor recommended it for fewer chances of infection. I'm pleased with having one spot to worry about, LOL.

catheryn reacted to Foxbins in Sleeved 2 Years....20 Lb Loss...helpI am so sorry you are struggling. Unfortunately, restrictive surgeries like the band and sleeve sometimes do not work as effectively with some people's metabolisms and they would do better with a bypass or DS, but since it sounds like you don't have the money to revise, let's try to make the sleeve work for you. First of all, you must log your calories, protein, carbs, and water. Seeing what you are eating and how it affects your weight is crucial. Second, you must make good food choices. You will never lose weight eating and drinking crap. Third, weigh yourself every day. If you are not losing an average of 2 lbs/week, you are eating too much. Fourth, measure your food, and eat no more than .75 cup at a time. You must stop vomiting and that means eating slowly--put down your fork and chew, chew, chew. Stop eating if you feel full, after 20 minutes, or when the food is gone, whatever comes first. Do not drink for an hour afterwards. You need to eat planned snacks so that you don't stuff yourself at dinner. I would faint if all I had to go on was a protein shake until a protein bar at lunch. You also must walk and lift weights to try and build muscle mass to increase your metabolism.
You don't say how tall you are or how much you weigh now, but I promise if you go back to basics you can lose more. You can do this! Start now by empying your cupboards of all the slider food and sugar. We are here for you.

catheryn reacted to Supersweetums in Pill QuestionYou will be able to swallow smaller medications after surgery. Actually, my antibiotic was a HUGE pill...breaking it in half hurt going down and I couldn't stomach it crushing it up, so I tried swallowing it whole, making sure it was pointing in a good direction, and it went down fine.
But I would suggest talking to your surgeon to see which pills you should continue to take and which you will have to stop before surgery and which you can resume taking after surgery. You might not need your bp medication after surgery, or shortly after surgery, so make sure you have regular check ups to ensure your blood pressure is not dropping too low.

catheryn reacted to ibehere10 in Six Months Out With PicThanks for sharing! You look fantasic!! When I went to the barix clinic for my consultation and such I was 243 as well. I am down to 234 from eating a high protein diet. I am older than you at 57 so I know I wont look as fab but at least I know I will look very much better than today and certainly feel 1000 times better than I do today.

I had over 1 1/2 years to prepare for surgery. the last few weeks I went all in and started cleaning out my food pantry, changing dishes and getting new sleeve friendly recipes. since coming home from the hospital I have only vomited once (took my vitamin on an empty stomach). There have been a few times that I have been in a stall and I change my diet up some and within 2-3 weeks the weight starts coming off again. I have increased my exercise and have never felt better. My main concern was leakage and sincce that didn't happen I say this was one of the best things I have ever done for myself. In my head I still miss food.... but it is not worth it

catheryn reacted to tovanta in Is There Anything That You Wish You Knew Pre-Op?I sorry for all that is happening to you....however I do find that we as individuals do not take the time to manage our own health and welfare. We depend on the Dr.'s, and as much as we hate to admit this, they are human. Just like any sales man, their livelyhood depends on the number of surgerys perform. We as responsible adults must take the position of understanding their own health. This means research, speaking with other medical personell, double checking credentials and using all amenities available to you. We can not lay blame on what we have control of....I wish you luck and better recovery and I hope you find true happiness in the decision you have made for yourself.

I am so sorry that you were not prepared as well as ,you should have been. I am 7 mos out-and I have never been happier. My dr required a pre-op psych exam- and I was asked verbally & in writing about depression . I have not had any gastric issues but I have always followed my dr guidelines and he uses a size 40 bougie. My dr required a pre-op high protein low carb diet, and he told me flat out he would not do the surgery unless I lost some weight and showed commitment. My preop diet was over 5 mos- so I had plenty of time to decide if I wanted the sleeve done or not. My Dr is only in the local office 1 day/wk but he has office hours at another location and he returns phone calls. His office staff is also very responsive, but ultimately, YOU must do this journey yourself. So I think a person NEEDS to understand that you must change your lifestyle.
My surprise was the way some family members and co-workers treat me. Many think they need to be on a diet and many feel very threatened- like I am making them "look bad", instead of understanding and accepting the fact that I am getting healthy for ME. I am also surprised that I feel so at peace with food now- I now find pleasure in many activities that I dreaded when I was MO and I am having a lot more fun now. ( I think it is a much bigger adjustment if you have never been thin- then I think you need extra professional support). You can't unring a bell- but you should get professional support if you are struggling post-op.

catheryn reacted to Shape_Shifter in How Do You Deal With.....Maybe I'm speaking out-of-turn since I havent been sleeved yet and I too am only looking to loose 65 lbs. Jealousy? Maybe they wish they had done it earlier? Also, maybe your friend is one of those who always wishes they looked like you only being 60 lbs overweight, now she's getting noticed more, and you're going to come along and be thinner than her, possibly sooner. Stealing her Thunder so-to-speak.
Maybe just reassure them both that you admire them, etc. and how brave they were to take the 1st step and you are following them? Just my opinion

Everything went well for me..... I was driving within 2 days after surgery, I guess it depends on the person. I kept telling myself that i was going to have a painless recovery and so far its worked
i had a little discomfort initially but i did not take any pain pills after i left the hospital
lets just hope your recovery goes nice and easy as mine has been
im heading into my 3rd week post op on july 26

catheryn reacted to hadouni in So Many Positives! The past week has been amazing!
I fit into my first pair of Lucky Brand jeans. I didn't buy them because I didn't really need them, but they fit! =)
The scale is inching down again and all of a sudden my size 16 stuff is hanging real low.
One of my friends AND her mom are looking into sleeve surgery because they've been so impressed with my progress. (I'm very excited for my friend because I know she'll have a whole new outlook on life)
Another friend, who was the most verbally outspoken against the idea of any WLS saw me for the first time since surgery and I've made a believer out of her. She expected I'd not look healthy and that I'd have more skin issues than I do. She was shocked how healthy I looked and was even more surprised to see the condition of my stomach and boobs - I think they look like the dickens, but she evidently expected them to look worse! She's a pretty harsh critic so I was pleased!

You can count all your liquids towards your daily total...protein shakes, water, protein drinks, broth,e tc. If you're truly only getting 8 oz of LIQUID per day, you definitely need to work on increasing that number. If you're getting 8 oz of WATER, along with other liquids, total it all up, and see where you are. You should be pushing to get 48-64 oz of liquids in, total, in order to avoid dehydration. And whenever you can add protein (unflavored protein powders, etc), do...to get the most protein possible. All the best to you!!

catheryn reacted to KayBaby in What Does This Surgery Do To Relationships? So sorry this has happened to you! Be strong and do what is right for you and your baby. It sounds like you are a great mom. Best wishes with the therapy also.
I do agree, this surgery is so life altering that it can shake things up for sure. My 23 yo marriage is fine, but I do find I now have more confidence than before and tend to stick up for myself more! If that becomes a problem, oh well....I have been there for hubby and kids and now is my time to take care of me!

catheryn reacted to vinnyfan in I'm On To The Next StageI had my surgery yesterday (July 11) so I'm finally on my way to the next stage in my life. I came home this afternoon and am feeling pretty good. I haven't had any problems worth noting, yet. It feels good to be on the "other side" now!

The only thing I had complaints about this week (just sleeved Monday) is the hiccups. They hurt and quite frankly wish the gas would come out the other end. I believe it would be far less painful. I passed gas like the next morning after the surgery. I am eating my sugar free pudding, jello, and yogurts and hard to get all the water and protein in. Only my first day on solid liquids though so some tweeking will be in order for the rest of my menu for the next 3 weeks. Over all I am feeling great. I was so worried and it was for nothing. No pain at all. Good luck everyone.
