Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Recommended Posts

Okay, so I'm like pretty much able to eat what I want...(its day 18 post-surgery) just not as much as I used to eat. Dr. K said I shouldn't have any restriction until my first fill. Still, lately when I eat, if I swallow too much or do not chew my food into a puree, I get this feeling like I swallowed a whole egg and it hurts going down (very uncomfortable)...okay and I seem to salivate a lot (like my body is trying to lube my gullet to get the "egg" down). It takes like 10-15 minutes until that awful feeling goes away. It's really not a nice thing and it has made me chew my food much more carefully... but still, I keep forgetting and sometimes I eat too fast and then yeeoooowwww...:omg:

Is this normal? I'm really trying to remember to chew, chew, chew...slow, slow, slow... but sometimes, I 'm apparently on auto-pilot...

Tina (otherwise enjoying the band thing, happy and starting to look forward to "working" it...) :whoo:

Good Morning ya'll. Wanted to pop in and let you know that I'm still around. Moved on up to full liquids and feeling good. I don't have a scanner, but hopefully I'll get to Walgreen's today and have them put my band picture on CD and then I can post it here.

Tina -- I'm green on this whole proccess, but what you're describing sounds like other things I've read about PB. Are you still on soft food or are you on solids? Maybe the thread's vets can help us both out here.

LSzeliga -- Welcome and sorry I can't help you out with the Cartier number; we rented a car.

Anita -- WOW!!!! The transformation is amazing and your hair is beautiful!!

Dynamo -- If I were a betting woman, my money would be on YOU as opposed to the IRS. I think you're a force to be reckoned with!

Lap -- I'm glad to see you back with your daily thoughts. Loved the story of the Cherokee. So true, so true.

Mal & Marcy -- thanks so much for the Yurt education. I had no idea! But I want one; sounds like so much fun.

Has anyone heard from Gurly Girl???? We talked on the phone while in CO and she was having so many problems with post op nausea that Dr. K thought she was having a reaction to the hydrocodone liquid. I'm worried about her.......

Want2B -- Did Dr. K say anything to you about when we could start exercising? I walked about 1/2 of the block yesterday and wanted to ride my exercise bike for a few minutes today -- I'm feeling good and not lifting anything, but I never asked him and there wasn't anything on my discharge instructions...

Have a great Monday everyone!

Hi Everyone~

THANK you for such a warm welcome!! I have not been home all weekend, so I am just now getting on! Amazing, how many people are connected on this site!

My consult with Dr. K is at 2:15 today, it sounds like I will have to wait awhile before I am seen (is it rude to call ahead and come closer to the time that I will probably be seen? I will most likely have my daughter and another little girl). I am so excited, I can't hardly stand it!!! :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

Drew...where do you live at in Brighton? Do you Kelli Hailey? I know that she is a roller derby chic, although fairly new at it. I am in Brighton East Farms, off of 42nd and Bridge...Strange, I have probably seen you around!!

Anita...Your before picture is truly amazing! You look great as a blonde and you like a new woman! Can't wait to be joining you (although I think that I will just do the high light thing)!

I can't wait to meet everyone and the meet and greet and by then I should have surgery scheduled! I have decided to go ahead and do it A.S.A.P. vs waiting until after the holidays. If I put it off, I think I will always put it off, if I am going to change, I just need to go ahead and do it.

Just curious, How hard was it to give up pop? My Diet Dr. Pepper is my "coffee" if you will and I know that it is not good for the band! Seriously, how hard is it??? That is going to be one of the harder things for me, and chewing slow! But I will get it!

Talk to everyone soon!

Brandy

Yup, I know Kelli! She started derby the same time I did.

I live outside of Brighton near the skating rink.

Giving up pop was hard, but now that I am a year and a half out from surgery I allow myself a soda every now and then!

Good luck with your consult today! I don't think it's rude at all to call ahead and see if they are running on time... I would do it!

Kelli,

I'm on solids now... like I said, I pretty much eat what I want...avoiding the foods that Paula (nutritionist) said were problematic (even though with no restriction, I probably could handle them)....

I dunno, I do not think it's PB-ing... maybe its that "golfball" thing... that's what I am thinking...

Anyhow, I am just trying to really chew and to eat slowly... seems to avoid the issue...

Tina

Hi Sheila,

How did your surgery go? I'm also interested in this surgeon and I'm also from WI (Madison). I'm new to blogging and to this site. Can you tell me about your experience with the surgery and how the fills have gone? Have you had to travel back to CO for the fills, or is there aftercare available in WI?

My surgery went really well! I've been back to Colorado a couple of times. Once for my first fill and again for port reattachment surgery. I was going to do follow up care with a Dr. in Madison - Dr. Sunby @ Dean Care- but he really wasn't too thrilled about helping me out, since I had my band done elsewhere. (their price is comparable to Dr. K though, when you factor in travel, follow up care, etc. so if you want someone local, they would be a good option) I am now seeing Dr. Selwyn in Stevens Point. VERY nice guy. He used to work with Dr. Curry in Cincinnatti. I don't know what Dr. Selwyn's self pay rate is though.

Dr. K is great and I would recommend him highly.

Congratulations to all the newly banded and gonna be banded people out there!

Shelbi - I appreciate the words of support. It is definitely my issue with authority, but my "package" is coming together. It is lots of work.

I am doing well. Another two pounds gone. It is a wonderful feeling. It would help if I didn't eat out so much, but oh well, my life.

Be well and don't get the bug that seems to be floating around.

Happy fall,

Michelle

There's been some talk about what exactly is a PB and I've come to my own conclusion that it's just different for everyone. I get that "heat flash" feeling with a lot of slobber and then I just go to the bathroom and heave a little and out comes a gob of slobber and it's all over. I guess I'm just blessed with an incredible control of my gag reflex and can just make it move with my motions.

I've also noticed that if it takes longer than about 20 minutes to eat I can eat A LOT! It must start going down by then and then I can just re-fill the pouch? What do you think?

Well, I weighed myself yesterday and FINALLY got to 238! I swear the scale has a vandetta against me and did not want to go below 239. Now, I'm not getting stuck on numbers, but it was getting ridiculous!

Everyone's been sick this weekend and I thought it was all down hill, but then Connor got sick last night...things just keep gettin' better!

Hi Ladies and gents!!

Happy Fall to you all!!!

I had a woderful time in the mountians, I took many pictures but I still am lost when it comes to posting them here...Lap, I will email you some pictures.

I got my fill yesterday! I have not lost a pound since my last fill (booo), but I did lose an inch in my waist (no where else) and I spoke with Natalie and she advised that I stay away from my scale as much as possible (she is such a nice lady, I was very happy to meet her). She also said if I feel it in my clothes, not to worry too much about the numberts on the scal...Dr. K agreed. I'm okay with it, I am going to try and stay more focused and again writed down what I eat for a while. and stay away from the evil carbs the best I can!!!

Dynamo~sounds like you have found your sweet spot. You have been losing consistanly, that is wonderful!!

Woofay~your new port is working well for you too. You are an insipiration!!! Has the strep left the house?? I hope everyone is feeling better.

Drews~how was the Bout?..Did the Bad Apples win??? (I would have cheered for them...I like the name). What are you dressing as for the Halloween Bout?...that sounds like such a BLAST!!!

Shesha~how ya' doin???? Nice to hear/see you around!!

Brandy~CONGRRATS on your date!!! I think I saw you leaving Dr. K's office yesterday. Did you leave at about 5:15ish??

Marcy~WOW!, your Yurt story sounded exhausting!!! I drove practicly to the door of the Yurt (no hicking or snow shoes for me), yes beer is always involved with our Yurt trips, and we did have a tiny bit of snow too!!...tooo funny!

Have a great day!!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
