Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Recommended Posts

Okay, I had my son take another picture of me, since I'm "blond" now and look so different. I'm changing faster than the scale! So, I'm posting my before surgery face shot and my now face shot...like Lap Dancer. There is a difference!

Hey guys~Thanks! Marcy, how did you know that shirt is too big just from the top? And yes, its a bit big.:D Gonna wait a little longer before I buy clothes. All my new winter stuff I bought from Lane Bryant last year looks terrible. I bought some of the neatest sweaters and jackets since we owned nothing warm. (We don't wear sweaters in Phoenix.) I got 19 different sweaters and tops...oh well. I can wear the sizes at wallmart now! Woo hoo. (sad, aren't I? hee hee!) :bounce:

Anita - have you considered taking some of your "favorite" clothes to a tailor? I know Andrew gets his shirts taken in and it costs about $4 per shirt...might be worth it since you'll be even smaller next year? Since I don't really "go to work" I mostly have t-shirts and jeans so a tailor won't work for me...maybe someday I'll actually wear blouses on a regular basis! Haha! Yeah, right!

Mal - I've only had one experience with a yurt...well, sort of. At college (Idaho State) they had an Outdoor Program (note: this is when I was skinny and athletic). We (some friends) rented a yurt and planned to x-ski to it...it was the "easy" one, supposed to be less than a 1/2 mile off the road...well, we set out at about 10am. We were all wearing about 75lbs. of beer on our backs (ok, there were SOME essentials, but this was college) and we couldn't find the damn thing! We skied for over 8 hours and decided to head back when the snow was icing over and it was getting dark out...thank heaven we had a friend who had snowshoes on! He pushed us all up the hills because it was too icy to get up on skis! This is a horrible/hillarious memory of mine....needless to say, when we were all done...those were the best beers in the world! Now I'm a Mormon and don't drink, but those WERE the good times! Haha!

WOW!! Anita you look awesome!!!!

I adjusted my photobucket to decrease the amount of photos I had and I must have taken out my this is now photo....have to fix it later.

Friends I have some not so grand news. I have to delay my trip to Denver. It's all about money.

I have a state conference the week after my previously scheduled fill which is in Sarasota and $$$$$ the hotel $$$ and registration are $$$ more than anticipated. Add to that unexpected occurances and it adds up to a minus.

...

I'll let you all know what date I get. I'm calling Marilyn on Monday.

Hi all -

Anita you are MARVELOUS inside and out. I loved seeing the changes side by side. It is so fun. I love the blonde, been there for many years.

Marcy - what a hoot about your yurt experience. It is amazing what crazy experiences impress on our memories. Hugs to you. Will you be back in Denver anytime this year?

Mal - cut it out with the Cookies - you deserve a healthy life! You have a wonderful family who loves you, just love yourself, too. I think you are great. You know a cookie just doesn't really do it, however, after my awful date last month I ate 4 and "needed them" so I get it. Hugs hope it is smooth sailing now.

Lap - Are you saying you won't be here in Oct? Let us know. We are the ladies of "magic" with the magical thinking to go with the "divaness," When I went to therapy six years ago, my first words to the therapist were, "I just don't have any more rabbits to pull out of the hat." smile...

Well the IRS and I are getting ready to rumble. I am pulling stuff from I don't know where. A word of advice.... save your receipts, even if they are in a shoebox, you might need them. My creative memories are consuming me. I keep thinking, now didn't I go here and there - well did I count those miles?????

Michelle~GOOD LUCK with the IRS...ugh! If you did your taxes wrong in your favor, do they give YOU money??

Question everyone

Yesterday, I had to unplug my printer, which of course was a long reach behind it..I couldn't move it before unplugging it. So, my port sight pushed against the printer pretty hard, but not ridiculous. I notice today it is more sore, and feels more swollen than before. Should I worry???? Dr. K never really said anything to me about being real careful with it. I'm kind of scared.

thoughts?

Unless you are experiencing PAIN I would just relax and give it a few days. That's the best thing you can do. Check yourself in the morning.

Yes, I'm saying that I won't be there in October. Will most likely make it in November. Getting out the planner and seeing what Dr. K has open.

Can we say ESCAPE? I am so sad I am not coming. My card is maxed and I am bleeding out money not to mention my daughter called and she is going through a female scare at the moment. My inner warning system is saying ...finally sign...time to postpone.

Lap - you are exactly right deciding not to come when everything tells you not at this time. I believe in the energies of the universe and to listen to them in action is DIVINE. So, as sad as I'll be not seeing you (loved talking) we'll catch up another time.

Anita - when I opened the page and there you were, pretty and vital - WOW! you are a hot mama.

Getting ready to go to the accountant today, not feeling down, I've done a lot of the work I needed to do for the audit. I always was a good student when I cared.

I lost another two pounds, it was funny I didn't get on the scale for two weeks, then boom. I am happy with this loss, even after lox and a bagel for dinner last night.

Hugs,

Michelle

Hello Friends:

Dynamo thank you!! ( a cyber hug your way) Good luck with the taxes.

Sharing good thoughts today

One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, “My son, the battle is between two wolves.” “One is Evil. It is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority and ego. The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.”

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf wins?”

The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
