could you get some of your clothes tailored/taken in as your weight goes down? I bet no one will notice if you repeat outfits a bit more frequently. Just change your tie! :)

Consignment and thrift stores will become my new best friend. :)

Hi all' date='

I was sleeved on 2/22, spent one night in the hispital and am home. I have been able to distinguish gas pain from the surgery pain. The gas pain is sharper, as it comes and goes The surgery pain is simply the feeling of tightness. My surgeon described the sleeve discomfort perfectly. he said the sensation is similar to putting on brand new leather shoes. There is limited flexibility and a feeling of tightness. My diet consists of Protein Shakes, non fat yogurt and sugar-free Popsicle s. I need to walk more and drink more Water.< /p>

I would appreciate any/all advice for the following questions:

1. How do we deal with work clothes? It's too expensive to buy new clothes every time we lose 10 pounds. I work in an office, so sweats are not an option.

2. Juicer preference. There is a ton of information on the Magic Bullet and Ninja. Do you use either? which do you prefer? Why?

3. What is your most comfortable sleeping position. Trying to get comfortable isn't easy.

Thanks in advance![/quote']

I haven't been sleeved yet, but I have a plan to purchase clothes from Goodwill after surgery. I work in an office setting too and have purchased a few things from my local GW store when I refused to spend anymore money on clothes after I outgrew mine (gaining). I think it would be good to once in a while get a nice NEW outfit from a retail store, but I don't want to spend a bunch of money on clothes that I will not be able to use long. Garage sales might be an idea too.

I have a Nija and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it. I make several different types of shakes on my preop, including an "oatmeal cookie with chocolate chips". It perfectly chops the chocolate chips and ice. I never have chunks of ice like I did with a regular blender. I bought mine at Bed, Bath & Beyond and had a 20% off coupon so it came to a little more than $80, but it was an investment. Just watch out when you clean the blades. It can be dangerous. Also, I never put my blade in the dishwasher. My mom always told me that the dishwasher dulls knives, so I figured it would do the same thing on my Ninja blade. I don't know if its true, but I don't want to risk ruining my blade.

My surgeon doesn't limit caffeine--it seems like most other surgeons do?

I think the main reason for restricting caffeine is dehydration. It is a big deal initially after surgery, but not that big of a deal later on.

>>I was sleeved Feb 20 I'm on full liquid diet. I made a yummy butternut squash Soup put some tofu' date=' chicken, cilantro, chicken broth, salt, pepped, when cooked put it in blender to liquify add more chicken broth and its a yummy liquid butternut squash soup with Protein chicken and tofu.

I have been thinking of adding tofu to soup to boost protein. What type of tofu did you use? (silken, firm, etc.). Did it blenderize nicely? thanks![/quote']

Hi Tess I used firm I boiled it with the butternut squash so it got really soft. I love my bullet it liquifies anythung. I made lentil soup with chicken great in it and liquidfy it yummy!

So' date=' surgery is Thursday...I woke up this morning, and my little boy crawled into my bed- and suddenly I had this overwhelming terror of something going wrong in surgery. I thought- my God, I don't want to die having an elective surgery. I know the risks are low- but it's still surgery. I'm sort of having a hard time shaking it. (Sorry for the heavy subject matter-lol).

I think most of it is b/c I've never had an "elective" surgery before- so there was no time to like sit around and think about it before-hand. I've had several emergency type surgeries- so it wasn't anything to think about...anyone else deal with this prior to surgery? ...or am I just nuts? lol[/quote']

My surgery is Wed. And I am having the same problem...I am a very healthy big person, no health problems at all really & I am so afraid that something will go terribly wrong & I will be in much worse health. Right now, the worst I deal with is my body being achey if I do too much and I'm just tired of being tired all the time. I want to be able to come home from work & have the energy to just play with my kids for the evening. I worry because I really don't know what the next 10,15,20+ years will bring because there's not much data out there! Scares the crap outa me!!! I'm sorry you are having the same thoughts, although I have to admit it does give me some comfort that I'm not the only one. I would never forgive myself if this great tool turns into a nightmare down the road. :( I'm sure once we are finally through surgery a huge weight will be lifted, at least that's what I keep telling myself!

Today is one week post op for me. Feeling well but hungry. Can't get my Protein in though. Tried the premier shakes and they are so thick and sweet. What other protein do you all recommend?

I personally like

Syntrax nectar: carribean cooler and lemon tea

Syntrax sweets: double stuffed oreo

Now I don't like sweet thick shakes so I mix all of these with Water.< /p>

If you have never tried syntrax you can google: syntrax sample packs and you can get 10-14 packs for under 20.00(usc) and you can try then each? That is what I did.

Good luck

I had my surgery on 2/18 and I had the same type of feelings before. Wondering if something would go wrong or if I would be the very small percentage that would not make it through at all. I tried not to dwell on it so much and just prayed when I started to think like that. Dr said my surgery went great and I feel pretty good now just to be 1 week post op.

Hi! Glad you are doing well. i was sleeved 2/19 and tomorrow is folow up with my surgeon! If you have a Sam's they have ECO flavored water that is good and I am drinking Vitamin zero Water.< /p>

1) if you are in an area that has consignment shops' date=' goodwill, salvation army stores. I have to check my closet to see if I have anything to wear tomorrow. LOL! Check for clearance ads.

2) I have a ninja, did not like magic bullet and we opted for the Nutri Bullet. I purchased mine at Bed, Bath & Beyond and if you ever shop there or sign up to receive you can get 20% off. With the discount I paid 79.99 and free shipping since they were out. We purchased because of references of people who use it regularly (sister & my assistant at work). My husband is using the bullet every day and it does a good job.

3) I have slept mostly on my back but a couple of times I rolled over on my side during the night.

Hope this helps and congratulations on your new journey![/quote']

I just bought a ninja the other day and I LOVE it!! it really works great and is worth the money

The first thing I remember (besides the pain) was my 2 beautiful daughters standing over me and my husband. <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />[/quote']

My surgery is Thursday too and I'm experiencing the same feelings. I really want it but am nervous and scared too. Think it's just the last minute jitters :) Good luck!!

That was me last night. My surg is on Wed morning. My son started getting worried that I wouldn't be home for a couple of days and I couldn't stop thinking about the what ifs! Hubby reminded me that I'm doing this for a longer life with my son. If you haven't had a good cry, try it because it helped me a lot. Wishing is the best, I'll keep you in prayer.

I'm very interested in the diet' date=' please share it.[/quote']

Diet: In this diet u should use a measuring cup that my dietation gave me will send u a pic of it. No sweeteners allowed only brown sugar for use. Rule number one is to alternate food (i will be reffering to it by "or") so u cannot eat the same day the same item twice and the next day u are also obliged to eat another item. Alternating will boost ur metabolism and makes u lose weight fast. Rule number 2 u have to take ur Snacks it will also boost ur metabolism. Rule number three drink as much as u can Water all day long up to 2 litres. NB: this diet was given to me 2 weeks ago on the base of 96.8 kg my weight after 18 days is 86.8 kg. so I don't know if it will work with people who are more than 96 kg. NB : excuse me for my weak English I am originally French educated. The Diet: Breakfast : Milk + 1/2 glass of juice no sugar added no sweetener added Or 1 yoghurt non fat or 1 tbsp of lebanese labneh it's like petits suisses or French fromage blanc non fat Lunch: 1.5 cup of mashed veg. Soup or 1.5 cup of lentil soup also blended or 1.5 cup of non fat Yoghurt or ayran yoghurt snack 1: after exactly one hour of lunch u should drink green tea it helps burning the fat. Snack 2: 1 fruit mashed or pressed or 1 piece of dark chocolate or 1/2 cup of yoghurt Dinner: 3/4 cup of pudding she gave me a list of Lebanese pudding that u can find on google :) such as mohalabiyé written also mhalbiyé / sahlab/ moughli moghli or 1 backed potato or 1/2 cup of mashed rice mixed with 1/2 cup of non fat yoghurt or 1.5 cup of veg. Soup or 3/4 cup of Lebanese mdardra/ mojadara (lentil based dishes that u can also find on google) Some indication: 1) personally I couldn't eat more than half of the quantity given to me I try to eat the quantity within one hour I stop. 2) personally i take my last meal at 7 pm maximum. 3) I also avoid salt even my ayran yoghurt I buy it without salt 4) I stick to fresh juices apple and pineapple and I mix it with water. 5) I heat my milk with cinnamon 6) please do look up the recipes of the Lebanese dishes I mentioned coz they are really healthy and easy to do. 7) my dietation advised me to walk up to 40 min a day 8) i know i am so strict on myself but i really want to have a killer body before summer and beach time. 9) When I go out I drink my Nescafé gold coffee with a non fat coffee mate 10) good luck

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
