I have never heard this until the other day. A friend of mine said that after you have any kind of bariatric surgery, the surgeon gives you an ID type of card to say that you had the surgery. If you present the card at a restaurant, they are supposed to allow you to order off the children's menu.

Has anyone else heard of this?

Yes I have one as well as everyone else sleeved with Dr. Alvarez. I haven't used it yet because I'm a chef and like to know everything I put into my food and don't really trust restaurants anymore. Not that they're bad but I don't need the extra calories or salt of something hidden in the recipe and I'm not one to question

I've got one, but it was so poorly done, that it looks like a really bad kindergarten craft project.

Thinking that comment over, it's not fair to kindergarten art projects.

It's the most ghetto card ever!

I've heard of them and some of my friends that Are sleeved have one, but my surgeon said "just order an appetizer"-- and I think he's right :)

For the most part the childrens menu may not be the healthiest options...

I am not sure I like the card idea. I am choosing wls. Not the restaurants fault I can't finish a portion.

I have heard of this, but more often in the Lap-band surgery. I have heard of them using it to order off the children's menu as well as getting the kid's rate at a buffet instead of having to pay full price.

I have not gotten one from my surgeon, but it would come in handy some times, although I don't know if I would feel comfortable letting every server know about my surgical history.

I received a card as well, but have found that many restaurants, especially chain like Ruby Tuesday and Texas Roadhouse do not honor them. In fact I got rejected often enough I just don't bother and by an appetizer or don't eat .

I agree the children's menus are not healthy. Fried chicken fingers, macaroni and cheese, hot dogs. I just thought that it was a nice idea as an option. I know it depends on the restaurant as to what is on their kid's menu. Those aren't my favorite foods anyway.

I'd rather have a meal and a take out container with leftovers for a few days. appetizers is a good idea.

The children's menus are never healthy and always full of fried things. I never noticed this until after the surgery. I don' t get this? Is fried food all children will eat nowadays? I don't remember being like this. Go figure!

Even though i have the card, i rarely use it. Most waiters give me a bewildered look and are not very helpful. So i end up picking something high in Protein off the menu. Sometimes my wife will share with me, but most of the time not (future sleever). Do not vet me wrong, she supports my food choices 100% post surgery, but she still wants to eat what she desires. Lol. If there is too much for me ( usually the case) i just eat 3-4 oz and save the rest for another time. This approach usually works really well, prevents waiters from being pulled out of their routine and gives me complete and utter power to control my own eating habits and choose food that works for me. Good luck!

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
