So, I had my surgery yesterday morning at 7:30. The morning went by fine and I was less nervous than I ever anticipated. As a matter of fact, I am normally a basket case for "scary events", but I was uncharacteristically calm.

After surgery was a different feeling all together. I remember waking up crying and feeling very sore and out of it. I could hear them saying I was harder to wake up than most, but luckily I did wake up.

The past 24 hours have been hell for me. Aside from the pain in my tummy (and especially the largest incision site) I have had some adverse reactions, they believe to the anestheisa. My entire body aches and I can't move from the pain. It feels like someone has taken a baseball bat to my entire body and beaten me within an inch of my life. So, I am pretty miserable. They are doing blood work now bc they think I had a reaction to the paralytic they gave me. My doctor said the surgery itself went beautifully and that this complete muscle pain in my body I've described is brand new to him. They are having to give me blood thinners to avoid clots because I can't walk and I won't be able to go home today like everyone else. Hopefully this won't last too long bc it is hard on me. I fully expected to be up and walking around by this morning, but I haven't been able to. My poor hubby is practically dragging me to the bathroom every 2 hours bc I have been peeing like crazy, which is good I'm told.

So, not sure who else had surgery yesterday or this week, but has anyone else had this happen? I am so stiff in and so much pain I can't do a single thing and it is really frustrating. Hopefully I will be better and able to go home tomorrow.

Aside from the complications, I am excited I had the surgery done bc I already feel different. I had some chicken broth earlier today and felt satisfied aferwards which was amazing. Hope everyone else is having better luck than me!

So sorry for your difficulties... believing that all shall soon be WELL! Welcome to the other side. The changes are rapid and phenomenal!

I am so sorry you are having issues. My best friend also had surgery yesterday and she had bad pain and nausea last night. I havent talked to her since 7 this am but it does improve hourly, just hang in there. Hugs to you!

I had the same issues was in a ton of pain and ever time I got up I vomited the nausea was unreal I 3 weeks out and still a little uncomfortable but much better know you'll fel pretty crappy for about a week then all good stay in the hospital and let them take care of you for now

Thank you all for the kind words. I realize it is just a fluke, but I wasn't expecting it so it definitely threw me for a loop. My nurses were nice at first, but now they make me feel guilty for needing pain meds bc they haven't had this with other patients. So, it is just frustrating for me right now. Fortunately, the anesthesiologist did come back to see me earlier and said I am suffering from "postoperative myalgia". So, of you haven't had your surgery look it up and educate yourself on it so you aren't floored like I was. There is really nothing I can do besides wait for it to pass, but at least it isn't a mystery anymore. I want to be up walking like everyone else and I physically can't so it is just tough for the time being.

On another note, although I've not really experienced hunger, I did feel sort of empty (if that makes sense) today and I was on Clear liquids. I have taken in quite a bit, considering. I had 2 (4oz) bowls chicken broth, 2 sugar free Popsicles, 2 small no sugar apple juices, and several ounces of Water throughout the whole day. I had no trouble with any of that, just took it really slow and tried to listen to my body. My doctor is different from most and I'll be able to move on to puréed foods today (day 2 out) which is really amazing. He said there's nothing to show I can't have it and he said his patients do really well nutritionally bc of it. I am definitely looking forward to maybe some type of pureed Soup to see how that goes down.

Anyways, thanks for all of the comments and all of the responses. It gives me something to look forward to since I'm stuck in my hospital bed.

have you ever had surgery before? I'm so worried about post-op complications! I've been under general anesthesia 3x in my life and it all went fine - not sure if this is something that could still happen?

It is natural to have some anxiety, but I really surprised myself by being ok until I woke up with this dreaded pain all over my body. My understanding is that there is 1.5% chance of it happening so perhaps I shouldn't have played the lottery before my surgery.

I am sure you will be fine. Maybe I've hogged the 1% chance this time and your safe to go have a complication free surgery. The medication that caused the reaction is the paralytic they use for intubation called "succinocholine". You can look up "postoperative myalgia" online and there is some general info. Basically, all of my muscles contracted so much during surgery that they are pretty much useles for a few days until they have time to repair and heal themselves. Kind of like I worked out every muscle in my body nonstop and they are just fatigued to the point of not working at all. I'll keep everyone posted as to how long this lasts. Hopefully not much longer bc I can't stand being in pain or confined to this bed. :/

No matter how anyone acts, do not feel guilty to ask for pain medications - that's their job and you deserve to have your pain treated. I will keep you in my thoughts and hope for a quick recovery.

I will keep my eye out for an update. I really hope you recover soon, it can't be an easy thing to deal with.

I don't have a surgery date yet. I need 3m diet (which my pcp is counting from the first nut visit on 8/21) so I'm just crossing my fingers that I can get sleeved by the end of the year.

You are not alone. You can read my story in the sleeve stories (the story you don't want to hear but should). I've been up and down but more often down. We are finally hiring a full time nurse tomorrow. I'm two weeks out and in constant pain. My baby can't touch me. This has been hell.
