Hi all!! Just wanted to let everyone know that I made it home from Dr. Ortiz!! Everything went well although I didnt think to ask the dr how long my surgery took like JamsA did.. My husband said I was gone like 20 min so that is good... Now 3 days post op !! Wow where did the time go?? Today I feel bloated and cant really bend over much.. Not really in paing but unconfortable... I put what little abdominal muscles in shock!! LOL

JamesA I am glad everything went okay... Didnt see you at all after the big day!

Good luck to all.. and hang in there on the liquid diets!!! You can Do It!!

I'm excited to read everyone's experiences as more of us September bandsters reach the other side.

Has anyone given any thought to how they're going to control the snacking impulse? My entire life I've snacked my way through the evening. How do you avoid the urge to open the fridge? I wonder if a new hobby to keep my hands busy would help? Knitting? Quilting?

Karen: I wish I had an inside track on how to not look at or pay attention to the aroma of my favorite foods. I heard my DD opening a chip bag and crunching away a while ago and man, this ain't going to be easy. But then if it was easy, we wouldn't be joining other bandsters, would we?

They tell you to turn off the TV and go for a walk. Smell the roses, etc. Yeah, I can see me eating those things obtensibly for the Vitamin C!

I've had an unbelievable day. I won't tell you about all of the adventures leading up to my pre-op appts. today. Let's just say that if I were a superstitious person, I would cancel my appt. Aw shucks, if I were superstitious, I wouldn't getting banded on 9/11! :biggrin1: Here I go! BJ

I,for one, plan on getting to bed much much earlier than my usual. I will be killing two birds with one stone that way, catching up on my much needed beauty rest and putting a rest to the nighttime snacking.

want2lose: Actually, I feel fine, and a little better than yesterday. Every so often, about 15 minutes apart, I get a temporary pain in my chest for about 1 second, then it goes away. I think it's just the after effects of being inflated. The intensity and frequency is better than yesterday, so it's improving. The port site is slightly tender if I touch it, but no big deal-- that should improve, too.

Stephanie: Hi babe! Every time I went past your room, you were either gone, or dead asleep. Sorry I didn't get to say goodbye, and sorry you're feeling stiff. And if you were gone for 20 minutes, remember that part of that time was just putting you under. Your procedure probably took as long as mine did. I imagine Doc Ortiz can do these procedures in his sleep by now.

Today was my first day back at work, but because I'm the boss, I don't have to tell anyone where I am!... bwahahah!! I made a joke at work, and in response, I was slapped on the chest! OW! It was above my incisions, but I think my tensing up and the shockwave of the impact made me a little light headed for about 20 minutes. Other than that, tomorrow is Day 4 post-band, so I may venture into some non-clear liquids. I'm getting tired of gatorade and broth. :hungry: And speaking of broth, I was thinkng this was a good source of some calories to keep me going. One small can of Swanson's chicken broth only has 20 calories!! Sheesh! I hate having to depend on sweet liquids.

Good luck, everyone... hope your venture is as smooth as mine was.

I go in on the 29th for surgery and am trying to tie up loose ends - blood tests, physical, payment etc... So nice to hear about other September bandsters and their experiences. Really not looking forward to the liquid diet...but it is part of the process.

I'm feeling a bit down as my husband isn't too supportive. My best friend is driving 5 hours to take care of me post-op and I was counting on my husband to be able to take care of our 4 year old over the weekend. Now it looks like he won't be around the entire weekend. I think my dad will be able to come down to watch my son, so at least I know my son will be well cared for. My husband is not comfortable with my current weight and has basically told me he is not attracted to me. I'm not nearly the same size I was when we got together...but I'm in the middle of getting my life together with the band and am making efforts to change (not for him but for me). So, right in the middle of getting ready to be banded he tells me about not being happy with my weight and not being attracted to me. Feel like I've been kicked while I'm down. Why tell me these things when I'm shortly going to be losing a lot of weight? I know he was being honest with me...but still hurtful. Now he possible won't even be around to help me out. Thank goodness I've got my best friend and my dad to help out. Too bad they don't live closer to me.

Well folks, It's finally here! I go tomorrow for my surgery! I am kind of scared, mostly of just not waking up.... I know everyone feels this before a major surgery, so I am ok with it. I know I will be ok, but it's that little "what if?" that is troubling. Anyway, just wanted to let everyone know and I will keep you all posted on my recovery! Send good Karma my way tomorrow! Thanks for being there for me!

I'm with you dovie6523, tomorrow is my surgery day also. They have moved my time from 10AM to 7:30AM, I'm so happy about that. I will say a prayer for both of us tonight to curb our jitters. Good luck!

I hear ya - I'm on a major food fest right now - don't have a pre-op diet that I have to do so I'll be munching on something until midnight Sunday - my surgery is on Tuesday - so I'll be on liquids all day Monday.

I'm mainly stressed about the unknowns - the way my body will react to the banding - how I'll react to the lack of food - if I'll be able to swallow!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
