Good morning All,

This weekend is going to be a hard weekend for me. My sister-in-law and my niece, her husband and baby are staying at my house for the weekend. The problem is they are all really small and eat really bad (i.e. Cookies, chips, snickers, etc.) and my weakness is sweets. I must be honest that since I live alone. It has been easy for me to stay on track because I just don't bring certain things in my house. I came downstairs this morning and what do I see chocolate chip cookies... screaming "WHO BROUGHT THE BLUE BAG IN MY HOUSE"! I need to get a handle on this urge because I have agreed to allow my other niece stay with me while she attend classes here in the DMV. But to be honest I think she is more likely to follow my lead and eat healthier. Keep me in your prayers over the weekend!

Mizz Shon,

Have you contacted your surgeon? You may need IV fluids. I know that it is difficult right now but if you can, you must sip sip sip in very small baby sip amounts. Does it hurt to swallow normally without drinking anything? Is your throat sore? Did you have just the VSG or did you have Hietal Hernia surgery as well?

Whatever the case if you are not able to get the fluids down you need help. Please call your surgeon, so you can get help; they are there to help you in circumstances like this.

Here's hugs and well wishes to you; it will get better. Let us know your progress.

Mizz S.

Yeaaaa for you on progressing to the next phase! But don't forget you still will need to sip sip sip!

You got this now! You survived on your own without having to have supplemental fluids. ( believe me it does happen) I applaud you! You will start to feel better and more like your normal self again now. Best wishes.

Funny story, it's shark week and last week I bought the equivalent of Samoas/caramel delights at the Aldi. I was feeling snacky and was all hormonal. Anyhow. I literally let them set there on my counter for a week. I didn't even think about eating those cookies once I brought them home. So I guess I'm not as weak as I think I am? I've gained a bunch of Water weight though - I can always tell because my ankles swell up. Stupid period.

Anyhow, I've added swimming at the gym and took my first group fitness class (Body works plus abs) this week. Fun times. I love to swim but it is hell on my pink highlights. And the body works class was surprisingly difficult for using light weights.

You can do it, go get you some cookie dough Quest bars! It will hit the sweet tooth and give you 21 grams of protein...

you are doing great. Give yourself lots of pats on the back for tge 100pounds and the size 14 and being ubder 200pounds girl! Funny thing, I never saw myself as big as I was. Yes I knew how much I weighed and my clothing size, but I never felt huge. Weird right? This weight loss might just play tricks on my mind as I get smaller.

@@Ria1202, you got this you have come to far to get side tracked. I fight these urges everyday especially now that I'm still on my pre-op diet. My husband has a sweet tooth as well and eats like a kid: Cookies, chips, sodas etc, etc, etc. So believe me I feel your pain and your struggle. ;) :)

SD Kelly, I made it through. I just asked that they don't bring it in my house. I explained I'm still apparently struggling with my sweet tooth and that being in the presence of sweets is a little difficult for me. They removed them by time I got home and I was done. They've left and I made it through. As a matter of fact they started eating healthy stuff with me.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
