A thread for super-sized bandsters - starting BMI over 50?

Recommended Posts

wow julie in NYC ,, what a fantastic start,,i too have had great early success but know the high loss will slow down. On day of surgery 4th August 06, I was 251 and 7 weeks later, yesterday,, I am 216 so a 35 pound loss.

My immediate goal is to break the 200 but since I am in Australia and we are metric that means I have already broken the 100 kgs.. I was 114kgs,,,so that been a huge break for me,,,so 130 pounds would be fantastic,,, my surgeon has never discussed goals and over here we have very little support. I am hoping to get involved or start up a Perth Western Australia Support group as I find fellow WLS folks. Best wishes to all from Cass in Australia

Yup, lots and lots of hoops. Since my BMI is over 60 due to my being so short :) the nutritionist is requiring extra clearances. I'm determined to do this though, so I'm following my 1200 calorie diet, and making all my appointments :)

Teresita - My willpower has stopped working!!

I thought that I didn't have any restriction at all, but then today I've had my very first PB!! nothing to be proud of and it's horrible!! I ate stodgy white bread...very nice but not band friendly..

I'm going back to the gym monday as i've been made redundant and no longer have a job. My first fill is thursday, so am looking forward to restriction!! I think I was eating very badly because of all the stress I was under, but now most of it has been lifted I should do ok.

Since my Pb earlier, I find I don't want to eat, so am going to be missing a meal hopefully that will help prevent me from gaining. I'l post my gain/loss on monday...hopefully it will be a loss.

Well done everyone else!!

I weighed in at 446 at my surgeon's office about a month before I was banded, with a BMI of 69.8. I weighed 435 when I went into the hospital to be banded. At my first week checkup I weighed 415. Then, at my first fill 405. When I went in for my 2nd fill on Wednesday, I was 393. When I went back for my unfill yesterday I was 384. My BMI is now 60.1! Cool! I could swear that I'm one of the more heavy patients of my doc. I'm usually the heaviest one there for the support group meetings.

Wow, what a great weight loss! I am proud of you and you should be proud of yourself. Don't worry about how heavy you are compared to other people. You are doing what you need to do for you!! :clap2:

Brandy W I know the feeling. I have to deal with reality that I am always the biggest where ever I go. I started at 459 and 1 year and 2 months later I'm still usally the biggest but I am at 384 also. Yeahhhhh us!

Without the surgery I'm sure I would still be in the 400's..... it is such a lonely place.

Keep going to your meetings because everyone is there for the same reason, weight loss.

I learned from 2 of my skinny friends that weight loss is hard for everyone.

Thanks for the support guys! :)

I watched a couple of shows on Discovery Health last night with people getting full body lifts after bariatric surgery. I know that losing almost 300 lbs, when I get down to where I need to be, I'll be looking at that. Man, it does not look fun.

Anybody looking at having body lifts?

I saw that show last nite too, yeah I'm going to need a full body lift too, I'll be sooo afraid of that surgery, it looks so painful. I also so that red head lady who weighed over 600 who had a lower body lift, and she was in so much pain, she was only 40, but she looked much older.

Tann I saw that also, the 600 pound lady. She had a lot of problems.

All I need is some good pain killers. Knock me out and I'll be good. I watched my neighbor heal after breast reduction surgery and that was not easy. Those drainage bulbs get me. Then you have to go back to the doctor and have them pulled out. Yuck, ouch, ohhhh But I have to have this big belly removed. Boobs next and maybe arms, we will have to see about that. I hope my thighs will be ok.

For right now I just need to get to 375.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
