Oh my gosh I survived my first fill! Lol it definitely didn't feel good that's for sure, feels like a shot in the stomach I guess, exactly what it is. My dr said my port "swelling" was normal, he said not having a ton of restriction until about month 2-3 is normal too. He put 2 cc's in so now I have 4 total in a 10cc band. He put in 2 during surgery. I am supposed to Be on liquids for 2 days now. I don't feel any tighter but we'll see I guess :) just trying to enjoy the journey :)

Hey May Bandsters,

Haven't been on in a while but I am glad to see everyone is doing well! I had my surgery on May 9th and am down only 10lbs. 20lbs. total since pre-op diet. I feel no restriction and seem to be getting discouraged. I have my first fill on June 14th. I am hoping that helps with taking off the weight.

Hey all, haven't posted in a few weeks. Now 4 weeks post surgery and starting real food this weekend. A little apprehensive about it but think I'm ready. Got my first fill in 3 weeks time on 29th June. Looking forward to it.

I think I'm actually doing pretty well. I haven't needed any diabetes meds since starting pre-op and my blood sugars are all normal range. :)

Loss so far since pre-op is 16 kgs or 35 pounds and 11 kgs or 24 pounds since surgery. Haven't been exercising nearly enough as it's winter and we've just had a good dumping of snow but I'm allowed to start Zumba again this week and cycling if the weather allows so I'm pretty excited about that. Have started to notice flabbiness on my butt which although I've always been big, I've never really had a flabby bottom so hoping zumba sorts that quickly!

Starting to get LOTS of comments about how much I've changed and how good I'm looking. Haven't got any clothes that fit anymore so off on a spending spree this morning to get a couple of things so I don't look ridiculous! I'm also taking some quality items from my wardrobe to a local secondhand clothes shop to sell on behalf to help fund this spending spree! lol

Watching how you are all doing and all May Bandsters should be very proud of how they are doing. Remember it's a marathon not a sprint. :)

Hope everyone else is doing great.

Sooooooo I really have not felt any restriction yet :( and I'm eating way too much :/ its almost like I'm testing the band to see when I get full, but then I don't really get ful!! I know I have to stop :/ ugh I just want to keep losing!

To anyone not feeling any restriction yet, I say give it some time. I'm 1 month post op and I currently have nothing in my band and I've noticed that I can't even eat half of what I used to.

On Friday I got stuck going to a buffet with my family, I got 1 plate of food and didn't even finish it, whereas I would normally (before the band) squish in 3 plates of various foods then a plate of fruit.< /p>

I have noticed a lot of bored and mental hunger, and thats when I typically will go for Water with crystal light or a Protein Shake. I'd also make sure to eat slowly and chew thoroughly, I've gotten stuck already because I didn't commit any time to the meal I was having. The slower I eat the more consious( I can never spell that word) I am more I can tell when my last bite should be. It's def better to be hungry than to be stuck haha.

I'm sorry you are struggling but you are not alone! I'm struggling too, except I have cheated. I can't undo the cheating, all I can do is move forward and try to stay on track until I get saline in there to make me feel restriction. My husband has really been hard on me for it too.. it's really hard to have a husband that is worse than a mother. By the way, he is 6ft and 145 lbs. He doesn't comprehend over eating at all. He thinks its gross to keep eating if you are full or because you are bored. He literally can make a small bag of M&M's last a week. It's really starting to take a toll on our relationship. :((

I know how you feel. I'm on regular foods now and haven't had issues getting anything down. I have not tried breads or fried foods (don't really want to go there), but nothing else has been an issue. I still stick to 1 cup portions but it's all willpower. My biggest weakness right now is mentally cravings for juice. :/ I have been giving in to that more than I should. Been on vacation this weekend but I am re focusing when I get home tomorrow.

This is the hardest thing i have ever done. Hang in there everyone. I am proud of how far we have come and it's all a learning process.

Wow, that's great! It's funny how much a difference every few lbs makes. I cannot imagine how good I'll feel when I reach my goal weight.

My hunger has been pretty bad today. Only staying full for 2 hours at a time. Guess I will have a snack. Hope I feel differently after my fill this week too. Does anyone know if you have to be on liquids the day of/after a fill? My doctor never said anything about that.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
