Hello everyone. I was banded Oct. 4 and had a 1cc fill on Nov.21. I'm discouraged because I gained 3 pounds this week! I was one pound shy of being halfway to my goal, so this is a real setback. I'm back to my old habit of eating a "snack" at night (more like one of my regular meals). I go back for another fill on Monday, sure hoping I get more restriction this time.

Hi everyone! I went for my second fill today and ended up not getting one. The doctor said I'd lost 11.5 lbs in 5 weeks. I was surprised by that but what really surprised me was I didn't need a fill. He said since I was losing more than 2 lbs a week, we would wait and see what happens. I'm happy about the weight loss but I think I don't have a restriction. He did tell me to eat more food. So I'm going to start eating something more substanial at lunch time.

Catherine55, just wanted to add that you look amazing! Thanks for encouraging us.

Good luck everyone!

Cyndy

I have my second fill appointment on Wednesday and my dietician has just booked me in for a third as she doesn't expect me to be restricted after this fill either. So disheartening. Paid so much for the surgery and not getting anywhere yet.

Does anyone else have the wait 4 weeks before fills rule?

Sarah, dont worry!! From all the reading on these boards, that is such a normal experience. Most people say not to expect any restriction for first few fills, from what i've read its around the 4th-5th that you really feel the restriction and it will work. You just need to be patient and do what you can on your own until then. I can not speak from experience tho because my doc actually put Fluid in my band at the time of surgery so I've had some restriction from day one. I recently had my first office fill and they had me drink thin liquids for 2 days, then 2 days of thicker liquids (cream Soups and oatmeal) and then mushy food for a day...after all that I lost 5 pounds, but I'm not really feeling any more restriction than I did before the fill. Good luck on your journey.

I understand because I too gained 2.5 lbs this week. You are doing fantastic with your weight loss. Snacking at night is my biggest problem. My husband buys junk food and leaves it laying around. It's so easy for me to just grab something and pop it in my mouth without really thinking about it. So I'm working on that and it's hard.

I know you will get back on track and lose that 3 lbs and more! Stay focused!

I had my second fill yeterday. Since I had lost 11 lbs since my first fill a month ago, we discussed if I even wanted another fill. But I said "filler up". I am going on vacation for 12 days over New Years. I do not want the excuse to over-indulge. I am definately feeling some restriction right now. We'll see how it pans out after the swelling goes down. 2 days liquids, 2 days mushies! Yuck. But I may make my New Year's goal!

I think this last fill will be the last one for a while. It is coming up on a week since my 3rd fill and I think I may be in the "green zone" at this point. To top it off I have also lost another 6 lbs since that appointment. I think the eating, exercising, and everything else is all starting to come together. Great feeling.. I hope everyone else is still marching in the right direction..

I had my first fill on 11/30 just a few days after my 1 mo. I think i may be down about 6 pounds since the fill. I am scheduled for my 2nd fill on jan 10th. I am not stressing over it too much but I would wish it were more.

Hi everyone! I have my first fill on Tuesday and I am super excited because the last couple of weeks have been tough. I did have two NSVs this week though. First, when I started going to the gym 5 weeks ago I could only do 10 min on the eliptical but yesterday I was on for 45 min. My legs were like jelly after but once I walked for a few minutes it was good. Then this morning I tried on my last pair of jeans in the closet. (I've never actually worn them, they were a pair I bought expecting to lose weight but then I got pregnant.) Anyway they fit and I wore them all day! Hooray. I'm so jealous of those of you who have gotten several fills. I am ready for my first one for sure!

today went to return a pair of jeans that were too big!!! I found the next size down but, I was afraid to try them on. I thought "they will eventually fit" !!

they fit now OH MY GOSH, I can't believe this. My weight loss has slowed recently and I was worried. I read about the times were we don't lose lbs. but do lose inches! I think I can love them both.

I live in Minnesota, when the weather turns cold and the days are short I really have to fight to keep from getting "blue". I was so sure I must have been doing something sooo wrong. I haven't worn this size for so long, I can't even remember.

thanks to everyone who has a positive attitude. you keep me going, and trusting that I am indeed doing the right thing and following the "yellow brick road" to a healthy me!!!

That is FANTASTIC ! i SURE KNOW HOW YOU FEEL...

Sometimes we can do without the scale, because the inches mean more in your size.

Muscle weighs more then Fat, but Muscle Tones you up.

It doesn't take to much,,, just do a little more then you usually do ! That's a start..

Congrats ! You are going to Love the way things will start to change for you.

So enjoy !

Way to go! I'm okay with losing inches for sure. I have the same blue problem in the winter in Kansas. Today it was 54 though and we played at the park and took a big walk.

It was 45 here today, so that helped. I hate our long winters. I will really fight them this year! I want to keep on track with weight and inches going, going, gone!

Hello fellow bandster's!!

I had my 2nd follow up with my Dr. today. Down 11 lbs in 1 month!!! Yayyy! he says I'm right on track, even though I feel like I should be losing more! My last fill was Nov 22nd, he filled me to 4 cc's. i convinced him to tweak it a little bit, which he did. I know have 5 cc's in my band. I just wasn't feeling like I had that much restriction, if I let myself I could really chow down!! Hopefully now i'll have more restriction. Also, I really noticed a hugh difference in my clothes fitiing, I've gone down 2 sizes!! I wish I could say it is all with the help of the band, but its definatly more in our minds, eating the right things and exercising are and will always be the key to our success!! I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas, and a Happy, HEALTHY, New Year!!!

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
