I was given no guidelines by my doctor or nutritionist about calories or Protein. I was told to eat 2-3 meals a day 1/2 cup only. Fill my plate with mostly protein and then veggies. I'm getting less than 500 calories a day. I'm starving and I've had 1 fill so far. I'm eating 3 meals today because I'm so hungry. Is this how it's supposed to be?

Go to myfitnesspal.com it's Free, and you can see other peoples Diary, and it gives you a idea how many calories a day to Consume Daily.

I give myself a window between 800-1200 calories a day I find myself comfortable at 900-1000 a day though. and 60-80 G of Protein.

You can go on that site, and set yourself up, and you will be ready to go.

I am Losingintime on that site. Send me a message, and I will Friend you in.

The Starvation Nation is No way to do this at all ! Go on and view my Diary, and see what I had to eat today. I'm content, and under my daily calorie intake.

That = weight loss. Check it out if your tired of starving.

Hightower, I will call my nutritionist today and ask. Thanks for your reply!

Shirley, that's a great idea. I have been writing down what I eat in the little book the staff gave me. I think fitness pal sounds great. I'll check it out today. Thanks for your reply!

The days or writing down in a book are gone ! It's all on the internet, on the site I gave you. If it's not ! you can take the can or package and put all the info in, and it will help add to the list.

Hello October Bandsters!!! First I wanna say everyone is doing great and I am glad we have this group because everyone has the opportunity to inspire someone else throughout this journey. I am getting a lil discouraged though... Today makes 1month post-op for me and I am only down 20lbs... For the 2wks the scale is just not moving. I am staying around 1000-1400 calories but on most days I am at 1200cals. I am starting to feel very hungry again. I will be getting my first fill this Friday the 18th. Currently i have no Fluid in my 14cc band. I just wanna know how has everyone's journey been? Any regrets? Anyone doing any vigorous exercise right away? Also for those out there who understand carbs... I need help!!! On a daily basis, I am trying to stay at 1200cals, 60-80g Protein, & under 100g carbs... I just dont understand how people say they stay under 30g of carbs when there are carbs in just about everything we eat including high protein foods also. If I eat yogurt for Breakfast, thats 20g carbs just from my a.m. snack... Can someone please explain carbs to me? I have been avoiding Pasta & rice and minimal bread but I do have a bagel thin or english muffin once or twice a week. Any help or advice would be great!!! Thanks Everyone... HDC blank.gif

I was banded on 10/4, had an "unfill" on 10/8, and first fill on 11/1. In that time, I went down 24 pounds, then up 4, had my first fill, now down 7 pounds (for a total of 27 lost). It was really hard to see the scale go up, but I had no fill, and was at the end of my post-op recovery. My doctor reassured that this is normal, and they are not looking for weight loss in that first month, just for you to heal. Focus on that first - the rest will come!

With the first fill, I noticed a major difference in how much it took to feel full. I feel very lucky that with one fill so far, I am seem to be at that perfect setting. Who knows, though, it may change some more and I will need another fill. Seems very weird to be on a "diet" and feel so full. I have definitely learned that waiting for and eating really good, well-prepared food is worth it. Why waste the space I have on nacho chips and then not have room for the nice pork loin I made for supper?

I just track the protein and don't worry about the rest. I am very careful, especially with drinks, to stay away from sugar. I can't track and worry about everything, or I find I just give up. I make sure I get the protein and stay away from high sugar food. The rest I figure will fall in line. My luxury of the day is a McDonald's sugar-free, fat-free vanilla latte for my 30-minute drive to work. Otherwise I just drink Water or propel. I have also found that by eating my supper a little later (around 7:00) that I am full for the rest of the night. If I eat right when I get home at 5:00, I am hungry right before bed (DANGER time.)

NSV yesterday - was able to hook my bra (the pull-over complicated type that also has a hook) by myself. Also wore a blouse that I couldn't wear before without a huge gape/pull at the chest. :)

Soccermom17, I too have had my first fill. I have noticed that there is some restriction but not a lot. Congratulations on the NSV's!! Those are the best I think! I have been shopping in my closet since I'm down two sizes. I love it!

Hi all October Bandsters,

I just wanted to check in. I am doing ok. I am working on getting my calorie count in a certain range (900) as well as increase my Water intake. A friend (fellow october bandster) helped me figure out my fitness pal (thanks). It looks like this will make it easier for me to log my intake. My only struggle is making sure I get my exercise in. The hard part is finding the time to put it into my schedule. I have been in a little bit of a standstill, I have only lost 3 pounds in the last 3 weeks. However, I know that I am losing inches because i am down 2 jean sizes. YEAHHHH. My appetite is coming back which is scary because my first fill is not until Dec 14. Hope everyone is doing well.

Take Care

Had my first fill yesterday. Now at 2cc. The doc was reluctant because she said I was doing so well, but I insisted, cause #1 I didn't drive 2hrs for nothing and #2 I wanted to know wat it felt like. Not too bad just a lil pinch, like giving blood. She was quick Nd my hubby held my hand. So on liquids for the rest of the day. Have lost 25lbs since 10/1

Had my first fill today! Woot! Did not hurt at all while she did it. But stinging a bit now. She took out 1.5 cc to measure what was in and then put it back with an add'l 4 cc. I say fill her up! Now 2 days of liquids and then 2 of mushies again. Poo! But at least I know over the next 4 days that I will loose a couple pounds.

How did everyone else's fills go today?

Hello Bansters... Just wanted to check in... First I wanna start off by saying, I ♥ my surgeon!!! <<Dr. Vafa Shayani>> So, today I went in for my 1st fill adjustment... In & Out in 15mins... Very minimal pain, felt like a couple of pinches but the port area is quite tender now that I am home... Originally had no Fluid at all but know I have 4.8cc in my 14cc band... Felling pretty good & excited to see if I will have more restriction... I guess I will stay on liquids today... I can tell u this, I can no longer gulp down Water. I feel full just from drinking water. Not uncomfortable, but very full. I think I'm starting to love my Band even more!!! #I ♥ being a LOSER!!! (23#'s & 14.5in to be exact)

Just a small piece of advise,,,,,,,, stay on fluids for a couple days, just so the swelling goes down.

It's better to be safe...

Congrats....

My wife and I had our first fills today as well. The process was interesting. The PA injected the needle and asked me to stand up with the needle still in stomach. He completely filled my band with Fluid and asked me to take sips of Water. I could feel the water fill up in my chest. He then took fluid out until I could consistently swallow water comfortably. The amount of the fluid that was left in the band at this point was 3.8cc. He said I'd feel restriction for about 6-10 days. I'm scheduled for my second fill in 3 1/2 weeks.

It's been 10 long years! Here is my VSG weight loss surgiversary update..

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
