I was banded on October 23rd and had my first band fill on November 30th. My second fill is on 21st December and am really looking forward to it as I haven't got any real restriction at the moment.

I have been having some pains around my port (like someone punches me in the stomach) but they come and go from day to day. They are quite painful but they are over quite quickly so don't want to have to take time off to get to see my doctor if it's quite common. Has anyone else had them? Could it still be after affects of surgery?

So yesterday I went ahead an joined Lifetime Fitness! Best decision I've made this week! I will be starting a T.E.A.M. Training bootcamp class next week for a couple months @ 3x's a week with a personal trainer with a small group of other members who have some of the same fitness goals as myself. I will also be attending Aqua-Zumba on Sunday mornings. So excited about Aqua-Zumba!!! I can't wait. The best part about Lifetime Fitness is that it's 24/7 & it's literally less than 7mins from my house. U can't be that!!! They have rock climbing, aquatics, aerobics, hip-hop, volleyball, sauna, full beauty spa, yoga, & open swim with Water slides and many activities for kids. Also a healthy restaurant inside the gym. And the best part of it all is it was not too expensive & I got a couple discounts because they have open house going on right now. Yay!!! I'm also excited about the fact that they are 24/7, so by me working nights I can go to the gym right afterwork instead of going home first and having to wait for other exercise options. ♥ So this morning I went to Aqua-Zumba... 60mins of Aqua-Zumba, 20mins in the hot-tub, 20mins of walking laps in the pool & 5mins in the steam room = over 700calories burned & a relaxed body ready for a LONG NAP!!! I enjoyed my first day at Lifetime Fitness!!! ♥ Back tomorrow morning for another 8am aquatic class!!! I have done pretty good the past few weeks. I gained 2#'s after Thanksgiving but the turned around and lost 4.8#'s and the another 4.9#'s this past Friday. Before I joined Lifetime Fitness, I was simply playing games on the Wii, attending Jazzercise, and walking away the pounds with Leslie Sansone. I plan on switching things up in my exercise routine to keep my body guessing. Hopefully this helps. I have had a couple NSV, first fitting a jacket I couldn't even close about 3months ago... My work pants are literally falling off me without a belt... I can see my collarbones... I have some restriction. I am staying under 1400 calories a day and I am satisfied for 3-4hours after eating. So as long as I continue to drop weight, I'm not going in for a fill. I hope everyone else is doing pretty good. Hope everyone has a great Christmas & New Year!!! 2012 is our year!!!

You go Q-tee ! I know what your talking about, and it's a big step up from just walking or doing the Wii. (not knocking it at all)

This is just stempin it up. "YES !" You will see a big difference. I guarantee it.

Keep in touch.

Sarah, I too have some pain around my port area. It comes and goes, but if I lay on my right side too long it really hurts.

Shirley, I'll ask a nearby PT place. My son is having therapy there and they are really nice. They also have a heated pool. Thanks for the idea.

Q-tee, your doing great! Aqua-Zumba sounds like a great class! I took a few Zumba classes but I was so heavy I thought I would pass out before it was over. :)

got my first fill today. very informative visit as far as Protein, food etc. My PA refused to tell my what size band I have or how much Fluid is in it or going in it. She said she wants me to focus on how everything feels rather than how much fluid is in the band. I guess I can see where shes coming from but I really like to know whats going too. Anyway, turns out my doc already put fluid in at the time of surgery. She removed all she put in, then put that back plus a little more. So at least I know it wasnt just the plication that had me feeling restriction. So now its fluids only for 2 days, pureed for 2 and soft for 2. It will be interesting to see how the next couple weeks go.

My wife and I just got our 2nd fills today. Neither of us have felt much restriction lately. I am up to 5.4cc now and my wife is up to 6.7cc. The PA will let us come in again in two weeks for Fill #3, which is kind of cool because I've lost very little weight thus far.

While I haven't been feeling much restriction, I've gotten stuck and handful of times and it has not been fun. My band is just randomly tight sometimes (mainly in the morning, but one time at night) and as soon as I feel a thing, I get majorly stuck (it comes out of nowhere). It takes about 20 painful minutes to get past being stuck. It is so not fun! I haven't thrown up food yet, but I have thrown up the white foam twice - it's a very strange experience.

My PA told me that for guys it may take about 5-6 fills to feel consistent restriction and for women it may only be 3-4 fills, but he also said these things vary a lot. I like how he's letting me get my next fill in only 2 weeks. I have a lot of clothes which will begin to fit me once I've lost 10 more pounds and I'm anxious to fit back into them.

Just wanted to send best wishes to all the October 2011 bandsters!! I'm an October 2008 bandster (my surgery was Oct. 23rd) -- just hit my three year bandiversary and all is well!! I've been under goal for more than a year (I am 5'6 and started at 230 lbs) and maintenance has been easy! I encourage all of you to take your measurements and some "before-ish" photos now if you haven't done that already! Also, I feel like my blog really helped to keep me focused and on track -- it's been a huge source of encouragement and has kept me accountable through the past three years (not to mention that I use it all the time b/c it's a great record of the past 3 years of banded life). I encourage any of you who are interested to start one!

Best wishes for LOTS of success for all of you!!

Catherine

Just a quick check in. Things are going great. I was banded on the 13th and received my 3rd fill today for a total of 6.2cc. So far I am down 35 lbs and going strong. I started running again about 1 month ago. This kept me stagnant for 2 weeks as my body adjusted, but I have started dropping again.

I hope everyone is doing well..

Hello all. I'm an October bandster as well and I'm very excited to have found this forum. I was banded October 18th; and so far am down 50 pounds. This does include 20 pounds of pre-op weight loss that they had me do; so technically, I'm down 30 since the surgery. It's great to hear how everyone is doing. Right around Thanksgiving they let me start back on all healthy foods with no restrictions and it's been going very well so far. I haven't had a fill yet; but my Doctor did say that they did put some fill in during surgery; and that for now it may be enough. Hope to hear more of how everyone is doing; and so glad I have a place to let others know how I'm doing.

Thank you so much for creating this forum!!!! Talk to you all soon.

I am going for my 2nd fill tomorrow. I haven't lost as much this month as I was hoping for. So I wonder what my dr will say. I'm hoping for better restriction after this fill. Although I got stuck last night eating an eggroll. I hate that but it was my fault because I took too big of a bite.

I hope everyone has a good Tuesday!

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
