I have the same thing. It's no big deal, he put it in, and he should be able to access that port is what I told him... It's on a slight tilt. Not Flipped or anything. It's do to the way he sewed it in.

I have been stuck 10-12 times with no shot for pain. Talk about Black N Blue !

It took a Nurse to say her port is 4 fingers down from her incision. Dr. never figured this out.

Next time you go in for a fill watch were they are from your incision, tell them to measure that as how many fingers from the scar is the port ? they will know what your talking about, and they can tell you. Then you tell them whenever you go in to make your fill easier.wink.png

I thought I had replied to this thread, but apparently I didn't!! I was banded on October 21st by Dr. Richard Pucci (Advanced Laproscopic Specialists) New York/New Jersey. He is awesome :-) I had started thinking about lapband back in 2004, but each time I got close to the consultation, I would chicken out and think of reasons not to go through with it (like, "I dont want to have something in my body for the rest of my life," or "I dont want to be able to restrict my eating!") I realized it was this mentality that got me up to the weight that I was pre-surgery. I decided in 2011 that I needed to do something. I was sick of diets, and sick of failures from the diets. Dr. Pucci seemed really nice and thorough. After my initial consultation, and 6 months of supervised diet/weight logs for insurance, I was approved by my insurance for the surgery.

On surgery day I weighed 227.6. I didnt have a pre-op diet, since it wasnt required. Just nothing to eat or drink and midnight. I know... a lot of people think that is weird. But I DID do a mini version of the liquid diet for 48 hours before the surgery. Just so I could see what I was going to be required to do after the surgery.

So far, so good... I hit onederland on November 25th. I havent been that weight in YEARS!!! Life with the band seems to be pretty good. I still dont have restriction, and things seems to be all about willpower at this point, but I am looking forward to getting my first fill on December 6th!

Nice to meet everyone! I am glad we all have a good support system in place as we slowely become losers for life!

Thanksgiving was tough and I sampled some of the good stuff like some of you folks did. The day after Thanksgiving was harder though since I made a cream of turkey and wild rice Soup for my hubby and my parents. I wanted to eat the whole things and I had to suffer with just tasting it (you know... quality control and all :-)

Back to egg whites and cottage cheese for me :-p

I hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving! I did until I got stuck last night. I overdid it and ate too fast. It was not a pleasant feeling. Live and learn.

Ok fellow bandsters, I need help!! I was banded on October 19, 2011. I had my first fill on Nov 22nd. Since then, I am having such a hard time eating, nothing seems to want to go down. My Dr. filled my 12cc band with 4 cc of saline, not much I thought... My progress has been great, losing about 1-2 lbs. a week( wish it was more). I'v started exercising! Wootwoot!! But I can honestly only eat a few bites, then regurgatate EVERYTHING! Any suggestions

O.K. 2 things that could be going on.

!. Your still swollen, so go back to fluids for 3 days, then mushies for a day, then try food. "Gently !

2. If that doesn't work, you can go back to square 1., and start all over but for a longer time, like a week so the swelling goes down. (SOMETIMES THIS COULD TAKE UP TO 2 WEEKS!) then try again.

If this does not work, then you could be a little to tight. That means call your Dr. for a slight unfil.

I think if you let it unswell (RELAX) it will be O.K... But I'm not a Dr. So this is hit, and miss.

Since this is only your first fill though, I'm thinking you will be O.K...

Now if you start throwing up, then you need to be unfilled, stay on fluids for a while, then try it.

Very small bites, and chew till it's like applesauce.

Hope you feel better, Shirley.

Just wondering how everyone is doing? I am 6 weeks out and just hit 35lbs this morning. I haven't had any fills yet so I'm anxious for that on the 20th. Hope everyone else is doing well.

Hi Jenn! I'm not doing as well as I hoped. But I'm struggling with head hunger. I want to snack for no other reason than I want it. I need some willpower in the worst way. I go back for my 2nd fill next Wednesday and I hate to hear what the nurse will say.

Congratulations on your 35 lbs lost! That's fantastic! Keep up the hard work.

Fantastic job Jenn! I've had 1 fill and 1 scheduled for next week. Wanted to get in as many as possible before vacation. I'm feeling great, sticking to the program, but losing slowly. I guess it is time to give into exercise. sad.png

Thanks! I have been exercising a lot which I think has helped a ton! I go to the gym on my lunch break at least 4 days and then at least one day on the weekend I go for an hour. I need to start doing some sort of weight training, but I haven't quite gotten there.

Hi all you October Bandsters!

I was banded October 11th 2011 (see siggy for stats) and had my first fill (3.5cc) with Dr. Lyass on 12/7. I'm still not feeling much restriction but I am a lot less hungry now between meals. I have another fill scheduled for January 11, 2012 but I'll see how much weight I lose between now and then first.

I'm still drinking my Isopure shakes once a day to ensure I am getting enough Protein. I have about 40 low sugar recipes that make that vanilla Isopure better. I'm loving the sugar free Torani syrups for my Decaf coffee and protein shakes

I'm at the gym 4x/week now for basic cardio and beginning weight circuit training and hope to begin a spin class once I can do 1 hour or more without huffing and puffing on the elliptical/stationary bike.

Hope everyone is doing GREAT on the Band-Wagon!

Lorianne, you are doing fantastic!! I have not started exercising yet because I just hate it. I have a stationary bike and some Walk Away the Pounds dvds but I just don't do them. I think maybe if I had a structured class maybe I would go. So I'm thinking of joining a gym. :)

Keep up the hard work!

Cyndy ! Since your not to crazy about working out, but yet are thinking about joining a Gym.....

Before you throw your money away for a membership,, why don't you try out what I do, and,,, I love it.

I rent out the Gym 3 X a week from a Physical Therapy place. I pay $25.00 a month/NO Contract !

Now depending on Location prices will very.

These places are doing what they can for money to survive, and it's working.

I use the Gym for 60 minutes, then 45 minutes of Aqua-cise in a Heated Pool.

Call around, and see what you can find, If you have Ins. that covers Physical Therapy.

You can go to your PCP for whatever bothers you, and tell him/her you want PT.

Then hook up with them after your term is done.

I did that down state, and it was the

Dr., that suggested this type of program.

It Works.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
