Recommended Posts

I have a question for all you compture savy people...I made my self a weight loss ticker...that little bar thing that says how much weight you have lost BUT how do you imput your new weights so that it updaates with out losing your origional settings?? do you have to uploade it and put it on your signature every time? I used one in both of my pregnancies but that was easy because it automatically updated on its own everyday?!

I am scheduled for March 18, 2011. I started my pre-op liquid diet today. 800 calories. Best wishes.

Hi Everyone!!

Where are all the March bandsters at?!! I was just approved last week and have a surgery date of March 16th. Looks like I'll be starting a two week pre-op liquid diet (Optifast) on March 2nd which I'm not looking forward to!! Anyone else scheduled for March? Do you have a pre-op diet to follow?

Good Luck to everyone!! :)

I can relate to the Soup thing. I am day 2 pre-op diet and find the chicken broth smelly! Maybe because I got organic? Only a few more sleeps for you and then the big day! My day is March 15th. Best of luck Meloveme!

I will be banded on Monday, March 7th :bananajump: Beyond excited. Have been on the 2 week pre-op diet and have done fine so far although starting to get sick of eating Soup. My mom is coming up on Saturday to help me out for a week. Have begun to go through my clothing and will be giving most of them to a friend of mine but keeping some while I am "transitioning" to the new me. Can hardly wait. This website has been a huge inspiration and a big help to me. I found my surgeon here, Dr. Ferrera out of Fort Worth. I go to the support group meetings every Tuesday night. Every little bit help. Well gotta go now. Gotta go make a Protein shake and then will have more soup :smellie:.

Cheers :cheers2:

Hello! Im in Connecticut, My surgery date is March 24th. My surgeon is Ehrlich. Im definitely getting excited! I am a little nervous, since my husband is military he was only able to get 5 days off after my surgery, and I have one son who is almost 3. Those of you who recently had the surgery, how is your recovery? Are you able to do normal household chores etc,. around 5 days out? My surgeon has me on a 2 week pre-op diet, thats mostly the Protein Shakes. However, what do you guys use? He has his own brand of shakes, but they are a little pricey, same with the Vitamins. There has to be an alternative. Any info would be appreciated! Good luck to all my fellow March 2011 banders!!

I'm a Navy wife too, hubby only got 2 days off work (and he had to use leave) but thankfully my Mom will be here to help me. I work full time but am taking 2 weeks off. I bought some low carb slim fast at Sams Club and some low carb Protein Powder from Amazon. For Vitamins I'm using the Ecodrink, it was $20 for a 30 day supply at costco, you mix with 16 oz of Water and comes with a little bottle, sugar free of course. I've spent hours watching youtube videos and someone had recommended taking a chewable Fiber pill, Omega 3 (fish oil or flaxseed oil) and chewable papaya enzymes (helps break down the food if it gets stuck).

Thanks for the tips!! I go on my 2 week liquid diet starting on the 09th and my shakes I;ll be on have lots of Vitamins in them. I was worried about after surgery though, as my surgeon hasn't advised of vitamins afterwards. The papaya is smart and the chewable papaya tastes good! I've heard really great things about flax as well so I may try to get some of that in me also. :)

Good Luck to all the March-ing Banders!

We found another one at Sams Club called Glacial Milk Complete Nutrition, not sure if it's something that they carry all the time, but will be stocking up just in case.

Thanks for the ideas! Yeah, my husband had to take leave, it was almost harder fighting with the Navy for his leave, then getting Tricare to cover the surgery! Are you on the 2 week pre-op diet as well? Ive seen some here say they have no pre-op diet, or only a 2 day one. But thanks for the tips, ill be looking those up before my pre-op appt with my surgeon tomorrow! Good luck to you!

No pre-op diet for me, instead I'm eating all the food that I don't plan on having till I've lost at least 50 lbs.

I'm getting banded in four days (March 10) and I'm am a little scared! My pre-op diet isn't too bad...two shakes and one cup of Soup a day. Plus vegetable juice and one low sugar/low fat pudding or Jello. The first three days were hard but I'm into a routine now.

Hello everyone.......Pretty new here and have already learned alot of tricks that should help me along the way. My surgery is scheduled for March 21st and I start my two week liquid diet tomorrow. I've already been doing the Protein Shakes a couple times a day for a few weeks now so it wasn't such a jolt to my system and i'm already down 23 lbs. so i'm hoping the next two weeks will continue to bring more success. Trying to keep busy the next two weeks so I don't psych myself out too much. I actually think my husband is a little more anxious then I am but he's supporting me all the way. Already stocked the house with all the helpful hints that should make my recovery a little easier so for all that have already gone through this and post better options for those to come after and big thank you. Good luck to all of us. Anyone else's surgery on the 21st?

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
