I posted on the general board, but how much did you guys lose on your preop diets? I started mine yesterday and am down 4 pounds...I know it won't keep up like that, but is that normal for day 1?

To all the March 2011 Bandsters ~ how is everyone doing? I had my surgery on Monday, March 7th. So far, so good. I'm on Clear Liquids until tomorrow, March 10th. It is amazing because even though I have not chewed any food in 4 days, I am not physically hungry at all. Hope everyone is doing well. Go Marchies!!

VERY well said Rhino.....

I lost 17 pounds on pre op diet, which was basically Atkins diet. Surgery was Monday morning and I am down a few more since then for a total of 20 in 10 days. While I know this is attributed to Water and clearing of the digestive tract it helps with motivation none the less.

I have found the stories good and bad here to be a big help in my journey. My wonderful wife has been a tremendous help to me and while I could do it alone I am sure grateful to have her help and support. To anyone of you waiting for your upcoming surgery dates just remember while it is hard to give up the foods we love to eat that our new lives will more than make up for it.

My little girl will be five in a couple weeks and I'm looking forward to being able to do all the activities I have avoided because I was tired or hurting due to being obese.

I am also looking forward to once again being able to buy clothes at the mall or a regular men's store.

My best wishes to everyone of us in the March group.

Rhino

Marcy, I was banded on Monday, March 7th. Doing well. Doctor was able to place the port in my belly button, so there are limited entry points and, therefore, less scars. I'm glad about that. Not feeling physically hungry at all. I am still taking pain meds for discomfort, but nothing unbearable. Good luck to you! VTAP3711

I totally agree! I am not hungry at all (i had my surgery on the 8th)...I am however having a lot of pain in my chest, it feels like trapped gas :( I went to the hair salon an treated myself to a wash/blowdry and a mani/pedi....it was so nice because it is such a beautiful day but when i got home i was in a TON of pain, my doctor said that i should be walking around and resuming light activity but i felt like i way over did it!

My doctor advertised a one incision surgery but I got a 4. Guess I should have asked more questions. My right side is hurting today, the nurse said that's where they put the port and that's why it'll hurt a bit more. Hurts the worse when I try to get up and I'm stretching our those muscles. They gave me vicotin and I'm really glad they did, alternating that with naproxin. My incision on the left side opened up, I think it was because my breast was rubbing on it after surgery. It bleed a little and has a small opening. The Dr didn't seem concerned but the nurse said that hers did the same thing and in order to keep the scaring minimal to use some surgigal strips or liquid bandage and close it back up. I could go in and they would do it but it's an hour drive each way. Clear liquids yesterday and liquids today. We went to costco and bought a Blendtec, so I blending up half spinach, an apple, blueberries, strawberries, plain greek yogurt, kefir and ice, used the juice setting so that there weren't any chunks. For lunch I mixed up some low carb cookie and cream Protein and some plain greek yogurt, not too bad, and an extra shot of protein. It took a while to stir it up but I came out creamy. My stomach is still growling, probably since it's just liquids. The nurse said to be careful with the vicodin because it'll cause Constipation, but combined with the liquid diet I think it about evens out. The combination of the antibiotics and the IV yesterday It seemed I spent half my time in the bathroom, almost didn't make it twice, but i think I got all of my bowels cleaned out and got a fresh start.

I'm getting banded tomorrow 3/10! I can't believe it's actually happening. I'm scared out of my mind, nervous about everything from pain, to getting sick to my stomach (I never throw up, and don't want to with the band either), to not loosing enough weight. Hope all goes well, I'm hungry, have been on liquids for a week now, and my doctor wants me on 2 more week of liquids after surgery. Anyway, good luck all you March 2011 bandsters!

Day 2.....

OUUUUCCCHHHHH!!! Hi everyone...I am having a rough 2nd day :( It started off okay, i decided to treat myself to a wash/blowdry, a shower and a manicure/pedicure by the time i was on the way home i was doubled over in pain...I took my pain meds and about 30-45 mins later i was comfortably sleeping! I dont know why i thought i would be able to do so much, i just hate bed resting and i thought that walking around would be good for me....not so much :( Is anyone else experiencing more pain the 2nd day then the first day? I feel it mostly in the port incision...

Diet:

Not sure if anyone cares but here is what my diet looked liked today...I did not feel hungry at all, i just ate because i had to (meaning my husband forced me) lol

noon - 1 cup of chicken broth- flinstone chewable vitimin

1:30 - grape popsicle

5pm- Protein shake

6pm - grape popsicle

8pm 1 cup of chicken broth & flinstone chewable vitimin

930 - pain meds and some vitimin Water

i sip my vitimin water through out the day and i know im not getting enough liquid but i am trying ...i just get so full and i want to make sure to get my Protein in :(

I am so excited for tomorrow, my mom is going to make me some cream of wheat with cinnamon, watered down of course but I cant wait to have something new!!

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
