I, too, am being banded tomorrow 8/16 @ 9:30...

I'd love to go to sleep but I'm trying to make sure my bowel prep is over...lol!

I keep telling myself that everything will be fine and surgery will be over before I know it, but the fear of the unknown is really creeping in...

Good luck to all of others being banded tomorrow! I'm anxious to hear about your experiences!

:wub:Good luck to all you August Rusher's (and all!) I am to be banded on August 26th. There are at least two others on here that have that same day:smile: Start my all liquid diet 7 days prior. Not worried about it since I tend to eat more when relaxed --and I am NOT relaxed:scared2:. Mostly "ok" with the surgery, but still anxious which I hear is normal for some.

take care

Wow BeachBunny that's great!!

I'm up getting ready to go to the hospital. I couldn't sleep much at all last night . The last time I saw was about 4am and then my neighbor called at 7 to wish me well today. Hopefully , I'll be tired tonight and sleep in the hospital. I have to stay overnight and I loathe hospitals.

I'm also really thirsty but can't drink anything and my surgery probably won't be until after 2 or so . I'm trying not to think about it.

Getting my clothes together and playing with my dog.

Dogs are so smart she knows something is going on so she keeps looking at me Like she does when we're packing for vaca.

LaurieH and Amanda , be well. Please let's all meet back here tomorrow.

Beachbunny try to chill today and be ready for tomorrow.

Congrats to all the other August 16th bandsters (Becky, Dee, Amanda, Laurie...I think there was a Jason too, and anyone else I missed) I too got my band in today. Unlike most of you I was able to go home. I've been a little sore today and a bit of gas pain in my lower back, but other than that I'm doing quite well.

Anxious to hear how everyone else's surgeries went today!

I am getting nervous. My doctor said they turned in all my paperwork over a week and a half ago and said it would only take a few days to a week max to get approval. Well when I called the insurance today they informed me they just got the file last friday and it may take another week or so to be approved... My problem is my pre op appt with the surgeon is on Wednesday and my surgery is set for the 26th. When I spoke with my my doctors office they informed me not to worry and I should have no problems getting approved and we are keeping the date. I am starting my week pre op diet tomorrow (few days early) and the stress is starting to add up. The date is coming up super fast and I have no idea if I will be approved or even how much I have to pay out of pocket yet.. no one will tell me anything until I get the approval! Am I just making a big deal out of nothing?

Hey Guys!

Thanks for the support and letting me know that I'm not alone in my fears and concerns about this upcoming surgery. I'm sure we will all do well, I just hope that I don't lose a lot of hair (it's already thin) or have obvious scarring. I know these are probably vain concerns, but concerns nonetheless. I haven't told anyone in my family about my 8/25 surgery, They are not supportive, and would just brand me a failure for taking "the easy way out". The stress and lack of support from an emotionally abusive family is one of the things that sent me on a course of emotional eating for most of my life. Anyhoo, enough about that. I guess I am lucky that there is no diet to follow other than not eating after midnight leading up to my surgery. It's strange that some folks have 3-4 week periods of pre-surgery "dieting", and some of us have none. Best wishes to all!

I woke up feeling really weak and shakey this morning. Anyone got any tips for that? I did get good sleep last night. I am guessing it's maybe because of the clear liquid thing. I am already sick of juice...I usually have a sweet tooth but the juice is even too sweet for me!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
