Welcome and good luck with your upcoming surgery!

Hi everyone, I am new to this site and just wanted to introduce myself! My LAP-BAND® surgery is scheduled for August 26th. I am excited and nervous but sooo ready for this.

Right now I think I am ready and don't have too many questions but I know that will soon change once the band is in place. I look forward to getting to know everyone!

Hi All,

I am 31 yrs old 220lbs and just got approved for the Realize LAP-BAND® and will be getting banded this friday August 13th. :)

Me too!!! Well, 31 and getting banded this FRIDAY THE 13TH!!!! I think the date is a sign of luck! I'm currently 283 (started at 311 in April... did pretty well on my pre-op diet!)

I took the whole week following off. I don't have a demanding job and sit at a computer most of the time but I had a hard time after my gallbladder surgery and wished I had taken more time off for that one.

Good luck!!!

Welcome! Have you started your pre-op diet yet? How is that going? I was just banded on August 6th and have been pleasantly surprised at how smoothly it went.

Good luck to you!!

I confess -- I did not read all the posts up to now! Usually I do before I post, but there are just too many for me to catch up on. Sorry. I just wanted to add myself to the August Bandsters.

I was banded on 03 August, and I'm doing great. I do have a heaviness in my chest that shows no signs of going away, but I'm sure it will. That's my only complaint! I was hungry for the first time today, and it took more that I expected to fill me up! I'm really trying hard not to eat when I'm not hungry, but I'm only having moderate success with that ... partly because up until now, I haven't felt any hunger pangs. I'm just trying to take each day as it comes.

Hello!! I'm also fairly new to this site. My band date is August 18th and I'm doing my preop diet now. I feel much better than I expected, I'm not hungry and I don't feel fatigued. I think the Protein Shakes are making all the difference by keeping me full.

My starting weight is 278, I'm 5'10 and my BMI is 40.

I'm being banded on Friday morning ... THIS FRIDAY!!!

liquids is hard... I am allowed a small piece of lean chicken or fish for dinner with a light salad (I've just been chopping a few ounces of chicken into my salad) so I think that's been keeping me sane. I've never looked so forward to a salad that wasn't The Cheesecake Factory's Chinese Chicken Salad!!!!

But this forum is also keeping me sane... I'm finding myself on here ALL day just glad to be "around" people in similar circumstances. Seeing the same issues, laughs, hopes, doubts... really is helping me make it to Friday!!!

So thank you all for being here!! We'll get there!

Hey Guys, I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Well in about 48 hrs i will be banded! I thought i would never make it to this week since i started my Journey back in Dec 2009. Well I MADE IT!!!

I am getting really nervous and exctied at the same time. That also means i am at the end of my 2 week pre-op diet, it was ok, good days and bad. Did i cheat.......Yup! But i got back on track and was able to lose 9 lbs.

My total loss since i began my Journey is 21 lbs:ohmy:!!!!!

Now i am just waiting for the hospital to call to pre- register me and to tell me what time to arrive at the hospital!

Also, Good luck to all my fellow August rushers getting baned this week!

Have a great Monday!!!!

Well, tomorrow is the day for me! I started to get nervous last night...but I am just keeping my eye on the prize and trusting God, and all will be well! I'm headed to the grocery store today so my family will have lots of premade frozen dinners to eat for the next week or two so I don't have to worry about making dinner.

This last few days of liquids has been very frustrating for me...and I know it doesn't help that it is my TOM...yeah, just what I wanted for surgery day  I don't understand the posts that people say they stop being hungry after the first few days. I would say I felt hungry 60-70% of the time. It wasn't ever a big deal, just annoying. I figured I made the choice to get WLS, so I need to deal with the consequences, both good and bad that come with it!

I hope I have smooth sailing like so many of you that are already done!

I am scheduled to be banded this Friday. I started my journey back in March with the seminar and then the supervised diet for the insurance. It's been a whirlwind of specialists and testing, all leading up to Friday the 13th. I am ecited and nervous all at the same time.

I too was banded Aug. 3, but I have been slurping down creamy Soups, low fat yogurt, pop-cicles, pudding, and soupy scrambled eggs.

Well all my fellow rushers, I had my first "incidint" this morning! I allways start the day with my protien (get it out of the way)..... Then I take my Vitamins (get that out of the way too). Well I had been taking one tiny multi, and two Calcium. I forgot and took a big multi. So I took two one right after the other and boyah! I got stuck! Started to burp alot and then the next thing you know i.....slimmed! WOW! What an experience, just a whole bunch of clear stuff! My pills did not come up or anything! Other than that, all has been well in my neck 'o' the woods.

Peace out

Kelly:tongue:

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
