Hello everyone! Question on weight stall. I had my surgery in May of 2024. I have not lost weight quickly but steadily and I am down 63 lbs. I have seem to stall for months 9 and 10 and then all of a sudden I lost .80 lbs in the last week. Has anyone gotten to month 8-10 and stalled and then started losing weight again? I have another 30 to go and I am hoping this is not where my body is comfortable. Also I have lost significant weight all across my body but still have a belly and abdomen. Of course it is smaller than it was but it just seem anything has budged from there for the longest time. I do have lymphodema in my from breast cancer so I am hoping it …

My name is Marisa. I’m having a gastric bypass surgery on August 7th. I’m starting my liquid diet two weeks before that and quitting smoking. I’m doing this for my health. I’m 60 years old and I’m looking for some encouragement from others who have had this done. I live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I’m a little bit scared of the change and what I have to intake as protein to fill my daily intake. Is there anyone out there who follows a specific program? Please let me know. Thanks, Marisa.

Hello all my surgiversary December people, we are officially 6 months post op! what an amazing journey this has been for me. I am down 70#’s and still loosing. I am hoping to hit 150 and stabilize at 160. Eating around 900 cal daily, still struggling getting 80g protein and 64 water in. I feel like I always have something in my mouth! This past month my hair started falling out, I mean, AT THE ROOT…. It’s been a bit terrifying honestly but I know it will grow back. Luckily I had thick hair already, I just hope this ends soon. Working out, skin is sagging, and all that fun. I feel a million times healthier, energy level is …

During the first week of surgery, I was absolutely miserable and very much regretting my decision to have the RNY. Now I’m 15 days out from surgery and I have done a complete 180! I feel AMAZING. The support of this forum is wonderful. I appreciate being able to lean on you all and hear from your experiences. If you are on the fence about this procedure, I would highly recommend it. BUT, go into it with the expectation that the first week will be pretty terrible. Maybe you’ll be one of the lucky ones that it won’t have much pain or issue. But if not, just know it DOES GET BETTER. So much better. I’ve never been so excited to the future. ❤️

I finally had my RNY on June 2nd. It was insanely painful right off the bat and I had a 2 day hospital stay because I wasn’t able to keep anything down. Everything looked normal on the barium swallow. I’ve read on here that hunger goes away… mine did not. I’m so hungry and it sucks. I’m trying to maintain my water intake and trying to get as much protein as possible while spacing everything out and taking sips… but I very quickly feel like there are uncomfortable air bubbles in my stomach even with the tiny sips. Tell me it stops sucking. Because right now I feel like I made such a huge mistake. ?

I am now in my second week out of gastric bypass surgery, can’t wait to get to puréed stage. I have immediate family and close friends who basically told me that I am taking the “easy way” out or flat out say that I have not shown enough discipline in the past to be successful at weight loss. I haven’t shared that I’ve had this surgery with anyone else, friends, neighbors, colleagues because of this. I am feeling good about the surgery, I feel competent to succeed all by myself if necessary, but I was wondering if others have run to this barrier in support and if so, what they’ve said or done.

Hi. I’m 6 months post op and have started to have pain in the upper stomach area. I’ve had the upper gi and barium swallow test, everything is normal. I space between eating and drinking. No matter what I eat after 3/4 bites I immediately get full. That’s for another day now my main concern is the pain I feel. It’s uncomfortable in any position except lying down on my side. My question is it ok to do a detox to cleanse my stomach or what should I do to remove this bloated painful feeling in my stomach?

Hi all, I am almost 8 months post op bypass. I'm down 68 lbs (31 kg) I feel and look fantastic and I'm quite happy but I still need to lose 33-44 lbs and well it's barely coming off these past months. Now my question is I'm eating pretty well and counting calories and protien content. I'm focused on calories mostly but I think that's where the problem is. I should focus on my protien only which means I should eat 115g of protien daily which might mean more calories and it scares me.. I m active and go to the gym too (not as gym rat but not lazy) so what am I doing wrong? Do I need to up my protein? Also how much of the food is actually absorbed? Does bypass really me…

Hello! My surgery is April 17th. It's been almost 8 months since I started this journey! Do any of you have trouble swallowing their vitamins? I'm guessing they are pretty big (haven't got my order yet). Since we can only sip, do you have issues with taking them? Thank you!

Hi everyone! I’m looking for an accountability partner who understands the journey of a 200+ pound weight loss—whether you’ve already achieved it or are working toward it now. I had gastric bypass 10 years ago and initially lost 200 pounds, but I’ve since regained it. I’m starting to lose my mobility, but I refuse to give up. I know I need to use my tool and get this weight off (again). I’ve found that having an accountability partner makes a big difference, and I tend to stay much more consistent. Plus, I’ll admit I’m a little competitive! I run a business, so my work life can get busy, but I’m committed to making myself a priority this year. Weekly check-ins (or more of…

I am seven weeks out from my gastric band. I am going out with my two friends who don’t know I’ve had the surgery. It has been booked a while in advance and it is a wine tasting evening, (which is my drink of choice). I want to go and it will look very obvious if I don’t drink!! Any advice? I know it should be six months, but I had a sneaky glass last week and was very careful so I know that my body seems to be able to handle it but then again I don’t want to send a slippery slope! Thanks in advance!!

Hi all, First off, sorry for the TMI, but im wondering if anyone else has had thesr issues. Im new to the site and the surgery. Post op day 6 and I have lost 10 lbs and feel mostly well. I am on full liquids and that may have something to do with it, but i was told to watch out for constipation and instead, am having the opposite. I eat and an hour or two later, i poop. Its not much, as im not taking much in, and it is very liquidy, but i have never in my life pooped this often and everyone i know personally, went the other way. Has anyone experienced this?

I had the sleeve in February 2023. Had extreme vomiting and reflux. We converted to the bypass February 2025. Now my entire house is down with a tummy bug. My kids got it and now I have it. I feel like it affects me worse than before. My tummy is cramping. I’m in so much pain, fever off and on, and achy. Does anyone have tips to help alleviate symptoms after surgery when it comes to stomach bugs? I’ve also been going through issues of throwing up constantly before the stomach bug hit. And we are working that out. It finally stopped and now I’m sick. My surgeon says my digestive system is “dysfunctional” because all scans were normal. The heartburn stopped but nausea a…

So I have what I think is Dumping Syndrome or Reactive Hypoglycemia and it is seems like it is caused by 2 things. Taking a shower and exercise. For some reason after I take a shower at night my sugar crashes so bad I have to take glucose tablets to bring it back up. I don't take hot showers (I hate being hot), just warm and it doesn't happen all the time but often enough that I found a pattern and it doesn't happen when I take a shower in the morning only at night. It also happens after I exercise. I eat dinner at 5:00 p.m. I wait at least an hour, hour and 1/2 and I am not a gym rate that I am doing it for hours - 30 minute treadmill, 10 minute rowing …

I have read (well listened to) the "Big Book", but I am wondering if there were other books or resources people found useful, either before or after their surgery. Whether it's informative or motivational, practical or theoretical... Though I'm not really a huge fan of self-help type books. Any suggestions? Material available as audio books particularly appreciated... (Of course I recommend the "Big Book" whole-heartedly, on my part).

I wanted to share my experience of what happened 3 months post op with everyone so that they're aware as well! I had Gastric Bypass on October 15th and everything went amazingly well. Flew thru post-op without a hitch- diet was on track with where it needed to be, and I had even started back at the gym (all with the Dr.'s approval!) I had passed every post operative appointment up to that point. On December 12th (almost 3 months exactly after surgery) I was in the office eating lunch with my co-workers and after just a couple bites of food I felt what seemed to be dumping syndrome coming on but coming on a lotttttt quicker than it had ever before. As I got up from th…

This is my first time posting here, but I’ve scoured forums for so many of my questions. I’ve read lots of your stories and have found encouragement and new fears. One demographic of people I haven’t seen much from are those that are at the lower end of the BMI for bariatric surgery. I am 5’6” and at 35 BMI. I juuuust barely qualified for surgery. I will get my surgery date this Wednesday and my fears are at an all time high. I am relatively healthy and qualified based on one comorbidity which is mild sleep apnea. My question is to those who had similar situations as my own. Do you regret getting the bypass, or are you happy you did it? Did you form more problems after th…

Hey, i do have a question about Maintenance calories in general, I lost around 135kg's in weight in the first year, and im "slowly getting there" and even considered recreational surgery now, but i have problems with the idea of Maintenance Calories and goals. So thats why i ask here now. Is the General Maintenance kcal after the surgery lower than the ones for a normal "person" ? or do we kinda "slip into" that?. i know all the math about calculating it, but is the normal Calorie intake calc. for people with a rny Bypass even a thing?

Question for you all with experience with going on GLP-1s after surgery. First of all I started out at 325 before I started my pre op diet, Day of surgery i was 315 (Oct 2), Tomorrow I am 4 months post op gastric bypass and I am down to 259.8 (55 since surgery and 65 since the pre op diet)Anyways, I also have a failed attempt with the gastric band back in 2013. Lost 100 lbs only to have complications and gain it back so thats part of my side story. My Dr. recommends GLP-1 starting now because of my high BMI and how much I want to lose after surgery. Personally i would prefer to start this after I’ve lost all the weight I can with diet and exercise and have plateaued. What…

Hey guys I accidently found this forum but I thought I would join up as I had surgery 8 years ago …. But have had some really strange pains and symptoms since but I never get answers from the doctors ! So I am just curious if anyone else deals with the same issues!!! so firstly I get a sharp pain in the centre of my stomach everytime I eat along with occasionally a sharp pain in my left rib cage into my shoulder so severe that it paralyses me … it’s been 8 years and it still happens I had my gallbladder removed after surgery as it caused stones due to surgery so I can’t think why it’s happening the doctors just send me home and say there’s nothing I’m so fustrated. Hi everyone, I’m 3.5 months post-op from gastric bypass surgery (done on 14th August 2024), and I’ve lost 20 kg so far. Honestly, it still feels surreal to me – like I can’t believe this is actually happening! Sometimes, I doubt it’s even possible to lose more and maintain it long-term. That’s why I’m here, looking for your stories – both the successes and the challenges. How much weight did you lose after gastric bypass, and over what period of time? Have you managed to maintain your weight loss, and for how long? What were the biggest lessons or hurdles you faced during your journey? I want to hear it all – the good, the bad, and ever…

Hi all! New to the forum and this site. So, I just had roux en y gastric bypass on Monday, and I'm feeling a bit lost, scared, and anxious. I'm so worried I'll never be able to enjoy some of my favorite foods again. I guess I didn't realize that gastric bypass was so restrictive. My Dr recommend it because I have trouble with heartburn and said this would be a good option. I guess I'm just looking for encouragement - if I know I can have some of my favorite foods at some point down the road, I'd feel a lot better, but everything I look up seems like I can never eat again. Do any of you have experience eating any of the following foods sparingly, or are they gone from my l…

I need some reassurance---- is it possible to be too fine? I had RNY on Dec 16. The first few days I wasn't able to. get much down but since day 4 I have no issue sipping. I am meeting my liquid goals ( 64 oz) protein goals ( 60oz) and walking 5k+ steps a day. I am so sick of soup and really want to move to pureee but I know I can't. Any suggestions on things to do in the mean time? How many carbs or fat should I be getting right now? How many calories is thee limit for these next few days? Is day 11-14 the hardest?

I had my RnY surgery on Sept 14, 2023 and took the picture on the left the day before wearing 48" jeans and a 4xl shirt. 12 months and -130lbs later, I'm wearing a 36" waist jeans and an XL technical shirt. Even though I'm wearing them, I hold those jeans up every time I put them on and say, 'There's no way these are going to fit' as I slide them up with ease; they just look so...small. Ideally I'd still like to lose about another 50, but we'll see where I end up.

My maximum weight was 303 lbs. I am currently 133lbs. I got my gastric by pass on May 7th 2019 in Pennsylvania. Since then I have had so many issues and I do not know where to turn to anymore. I feel the dr and I have gone through every option there is to go through and it is still not enough. Immediately after surgery I was having issues with eating. I followed all the rules took all the vitamins and meds I was supposed to. Still could not keep food down. I ended up having to take my gallbladder out in Oct of 2019. I was with a horrible person and she left me because of my issues with my stomach. I moved back to my home town of Peoria Il. I had to go on a sea…

Wondering if anyone else has had issues like mine. I realized reading other people’s posts that I was way behind on how much I could eat. I am still under 900 calories a day. I get horribly sick when I try to eat more. Over the last few months some of my pre existing conditions have suddenly gotten a lot worse and I have developed severe reactive hypoglycemia, with my blood sugars dropping as low as 32. After visiting several doctors and specialists a few who told me it was all in my head it was determined that I was slowly starving to death. They said my stomach pouch had not expanded like it should have and some of my organs were starting to shut down. They said it’s ra…

I had got my sleeve done on Oct 7th. 1 week post op I lost a total of 6.5 pounds (in addition to the 10 I lost on pre-op diet). But since then, I haven't dropped a single ounce! I walk everyday and I'm still on the liquid diet and just so frustrated. If I have to drink another protein shake, I'll gag. Is this part of the whole 3 week stall????
