I have thought about doing Ancestry.com, 23 and Me, that sort of thing. Maybe it would be interesting to find out if my ethnic heritage is what my family has always told me. But one of my friends said it is a very bad idea, once they have your genetics on file there could be repercussions or it could be used against you by government, insurances, you might find out the man who raised you is not your biological father. One lady on Megan Kelley found out her mother was really black, she had turned her back on her family, her heritage and passed as white. Is sending a testube and swab of saliva going to really open a can of worms I won't be able to control?

My trainer's birthday is Monday. He is turning 47. I love him; he has been my only true "real life" support and motivation. He has taught me so much, not just about exercise, but about how to accept myself the way I am. He is always so encouraging and gets so psyched to see when I succeed and it makes me feel just awesome. It's something I've never had before in my life. He is my therapist and my rock. I'd like to get him a birthday gift but I have no clue. He expects me to be snarky and sarcastic, lol, so something along those lines. He is a powerlifter and likes the mountains and hunting. Anyone have any ideas? Would it be weird to get him something? I'm definitely goin…

So I'm about to celebrate my 5 year post VSG anniversary. What a wild ride it has been! Lost about 90 lbs initially, had some serious life issues, regained about 40. Went full 'clean' keto and lost all my regain. Still have about 25# to go until ultimate goal, then plastics. Part of my journey included getting my master's degree, and now I'm also about to complete post-graduate studies in about 8 weeks. As I have already begun my new job-and hopefully final career path- I've decided to finally PURGE my life. My house is FULL to the brim. My hubs and I married 19 years and lots of memories. 1 teen and 1 adolescent add to the chaos. I'm ready to Kon-Mari the whole plac…

Hi! To you all.... I’m new to the site. I’m in the process of starting on this Sleeve journey. I tried starting last year but the office I was at claim they lost my paperwork, didn’t even bother contacting me and said I had to start all the way over when I called. I have my 1st consult with Emory Bariatrics on Monday. Only difference with them is you have to pay $150 up front with other office there was no fee. Iim only super nervous about what it’s going to cost me. Weird right I know. Lol! I know I’m a candidate for the surgery so I’m not worried about that part. I’m just ready for my Surgery date and time like yesterday.

I had a scare today, and it was the 3rd "episode" I've had in the last month - though this was the worst. My heart was just pounding and I got very dizzy and felt as if I was going to pass out. I was at work. I called my husband and he came and got me. We first went to a "doc in the box" and they sent me to the hospital. When I got there my blood pressure was 40/70 and my heart rate 190. They said I had "tachycardia" - which in laymans terms is irregular heartbeat. Of course I told them about my surgery (banded 3/2) - I figured it must be related to that, but they said no. My bloodwork came back fine, electrolytes and all are ok. They stablized me and sent me home, ref…

Hi Everyone, I am 30 years old and new to this forum. What an amazing discovery it was for me! About a year ago I decided to have WLS. I met with my surgeon, and did all the pre surgical requirements. Due to lack of support and my own fears, I backed out in December and decided not to go through with it. I spent a lot of time convincing myself that I made the right decision, that I didn't want to become malnourished on the other end, or develop any of the other potential complications. My mom was strongly against the surgery, constantly telling me I would just eat through the sickness and gain it all back. Fast forward 5 months, I have gained all my…

We all are told at sometime in our life-- "do you know who you look like?"What famous person do you, think or have you been told you most resemble? As an example I think I look Like a love child of Mama Cass and John,Candy. Somebody at the time told me. I looked like John Hinkley, the guy who shot President Ronald Reagan. And my late husband was certain he resembled Elvis. I think my son-in-law looks just like Nicholas Cage. Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app

  14. I am just starting my journey. I have my sleep study in 2weeks and my surgeon appointment after that. My best friend and I are extremely close...I can’t imagine my life without her. We are currently about the same size (5’8”, 300#) and are mistaken for sisters all the time. I am concerned that having this surgery may negatively effect our relationship. I don’t know how it could, and she is extremely supportive. She is not interested in surgery at this point in her life and I support her with her decision. Has anyone else had a relationship change with a best friend just because you have lost weight.

Hi guys I've now bought some ketone test strips and I'm definitely in ketosis... the reading is up around 8 ... but, I'm losing the plot... will this help with losing the right kind of fat? rather than eat away at the good stuff? When I did Atkins 7 years ago (successfully) I didn't really worry about ketosis as I was down to about 5% carbs so it was a given...and it suited me very well. I was blissfully ignorant as it was so easy - I just ate meat, fish, eggs, bacon, ham, heavy cream and cheese. so simple. Now, the more I read up on stuff the more I feel confused... and to be honest, I didn't think I'd need to go back to this kind of eating so soon after s…

There hasn't been a gallbladder surgery thread in a while, so I have a question for those who've had their gallbladder removed - I had my gallbladder out 3 weeks ago. Still, if I eat any appreciable amount of fat (say over 8g/meal) I get the terrible, cramping pain like I had before surgery. I've googled this and everything I found said that you could have issues with gas/diarrhea for a while until your system adjusts. But, I haven't seen anything that talked about the kind of pain I'm having. It is not gas, does not cause bathroom issues and the pain starts immediately, while I'm still eating. Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks in advance!

And yes, they are comic-book characters, but this is NOT a family-friendly film! Do not watch with your 7 year-old. Absolutely nothing in the film to trigger food cravings!

I went to a support group meeting last night where the speaker was a surgeon from a different practice than my doctor. His topic was success after WLS. His number one strategy was for wl patients to not eat more than 800-900 calories. He wasn't talking the weight-loss phase. He was quite clear that he meant FOREVER! He said if you were a HEAVY exerciser, you could maybe increase that by 200 calories on the days you worked out. Oh, yeah, for exercise do cardio, no weights. Muscle building has nothing to do with weight loss. I couldn't make this up! And this was his guidance for both male and female patients! All I could think of was "Thank heavens he's not my doctor!"
