Maybe you just need to be the creative one. Come up with something else you would like to do and ask for it. And if they aren’t willing to do it then treat yourself to something nice. Birthdays to me for adults are all about splurging on something you would otherwise not buy for yourself because it’s kind of a waste of money. Could be a material item or an experience. Otherwise we are just passing the same envelope of cash back and forth for years.

    Tummy Tuck items needed?

I bought way too much stuff. My only must haves were a shower chair and wedge pillow, and extra pillows. As far as massages and compression, that is all dependent on your surgeon's instructions.

Honestly days 1-3 were the worst for me, and I think the range is like 1-5 being the hardest part of the pre-op diet. I promise that easier days are on their way!

I am in the same boat with not having had surgery since I was younger so I really can't remember what it was like to go under! I am really glad to hear that you don't remember anything and it wasn't a scary experience! Also congratulations on your weight loss so far!
  8. My journey towards a healthier weight began with a decision to take control of my health and well-being. At 102 kg, I knew I needed professional guidance and support to navigate the complexities of weight loss. Before the surgery, I had extensive consultations with the medical team. They took the time to understand my medical history, lifestyle, and weight loss goals before recommending the gastric sleeve surgery as the most suitable option for me. The day of the surgery arrived, and although I felt nervous, the surgery went smoothly. After the gastric sleeve surgery, the first days were tough as I adjusted to the changes. Gradually, I felt improvements in my energy and mobility. It was a journey of ups and downs, but I emerged stronger, prioritizing my health more than ever. As I embarked on my post-operative diet and lifestyle changes, I was supported by the dietitian service. They worked closely with me to develop a personalized nutrition plan tailored to my needs, ensuring that I received the essential nutrients while promoting healthy weight loss and long-term success. Over the next year, I witnessed incredible transformations in my body and overall health. With each passing month, the numbers on the scale decreased steadily, and I noticed improvements in my energy levels, mobility, and self-confidence. As I reached my goal weight of 67 kg, I couldn't help but feel an immense sense of pride and gratitude.

    May 2024 Surgery Buddies 😁

My surgery date was May 1st. I was anxious as the date got closer and closer. I had never gone under, so I was anxious about that. I remember going into the surgery room, scorching over to the surgical table, and then waking up in the recovery room. I didn’t think the surgery had been done. Until I went to the restroom and looked at the incisions on my stomach. I took Powerade zero, gripe water, gas x pills, and loose clothing for my departure. The gripe water was nasty, super sweet, and I don’t think it helped. The gas x pills, for sure take. Definitely needed chapstick (although the hospital gave me a care bag that included lip moisturizer). All I was able to drink was water and ice chips. The first day/night of surgery is definitely the hardest!!!!!!!! Today I’m one week post op and feel better each day. I lost 13 lbs in this 1 week. Starting protein shakes today. My diet is soft protein and liquids.

    Celebrations

Ah ok so yeah i see the difference in what you were initially intending to get across and my initial response. It is disappointing when your family is unsupportive and/or uncreative. Do they ever at least ask what you'd like to do? Do you have another support system around? They might just need a nudge. I typically spend my time with my friends over family, though my family is overall supportive, I am beyond the age of birthdays with them. Long before my surgery, my immediate family stopped with the typical cake celebration. Now it's usually a text or phone call and a card with some cash lol. I think in your case you'd have to guide your family to do something different if that's what you'd prefer. It's such an ingrained thing that celebrations equals food for a lot of us and they may need some help breaking that pattern at least every once in a while.

    Medication and the Gastric Sleeve

Medications after weight loss surgery can feel like a rollercoaster, right? You just conquered a huge hurdle, and now there's this whole new world of prescriptions to navigate. While I'm not a medical professional, I do believe in tackling health holistically. So, along with meds, focusing on mental well-being during this journey is super important. It's like giving your body and mind a high five for their teamwork! For me, staying positive and focused helped a ton. There were tough days, for sure, but resources like mentalhealthhotline.org can be a lifesaver. They offer confidential support, which can be a huge weight off your shoulders.
  14. Omg the forgetfulness is so true! I didn't know it's a symptom of WLS! I keep forgetting important things and I was never like that! Explains a lot! Thank you lol.
  15. Woohoo!! Well done, and thanks for the laugh.

    WEIGHT LOSS SLOWING DOWN

Have you spoken to your surgeon about struggling to eat real (solid) food? This is uncommon at 5 months & you should be able to eat a wide range of meats, vegetables, fruits & some complex carbs. Push them for an answer. Stalls happen & can happen several times. While we say they last 1-3 weeks some do experience longer stalls. As for your weight loss slowing to 1-2lbs a week, this is perfectly normal. Everyone’s weight loss slows as they progress. Wait until you’re almost at your goal weight (or your body’s new set point - these may not be the same), then you’ll be counting ounces a week. Out of curiosity what’s your calorie intake like?

Why do you feel you can’t go to a restaurant? Do you worry there’ll be nothing you can eat i.e. not on your plan or may compromise your weight loss? Scope out menus on line & then suggest where you go to eat? (I still check out menus online before I go out & make my choice before I go & work out what I may need to ask the restaurant to change.) Choose an appetiser or share a main with a friend or family member. Most places offer soup which is always a pretty safe choice. Many places will allow you to make small changes to what you want to order. Make the best choices you can in the situation. You don’t have to eat everything on your plate & you don’t have to have dessert or choose fruit or cheese. Remember this isn’t something you’re doing every day. You have to be able to enjoy your life. At almost 3 weeks after my surgery I went to a casual back yard joint 60th birthday. Took my shake & sipped away. At around three months went to a canapés & cocktails 40th. Sipped a G&T for hours & nibbled on a cheese croquette & a tartlet. At 7 months went to a 21st at a formal restaurant & ordered a fish dish. It can be done. Happy birthday.
  18. Don’t fret yet @Lilia_90. I too thought I’d lost my hourglass shape but it came back although the hip waist breast ratio was smaller. Once my weight stabilised, my remaining fat resettled & my waist & hips came back. My boobs were there too but needed hoisting up in a well fitting bra-LOL!

    Food Before and After Photos

Thank you. It happens when the pressure in your ears builds up. It can even be affected by air pressure so when storms are brewing. In my case it’s genetic. My mother has it & my grandmother had it. We take meds (betasert/serc). but only when we start to experience symptoms though some take them every day. The vertigo is the worst! These are more than a tart though @GreenTealael. Flaky puff pastry just like a croissant but with a delicious creamy custard filling. You have to try one.

I bought a wedge pillow set off Amazon. I had a large wedge pillow I used behind my upper body and a smaller wedge to use under my knees. I’ll second the scar tape as well

What you should know about WLS they don't tell you

Lilla_90 "- I have this weird type of digging pain under the right side of my rib cage, feels like something used to be there and now it's hollow and it's uncomfortable, it's weird I can't even explain it." -I have a sharp pain right under my rib cage (think its a gallstones in my biliary tract - tho doctors say not possible since I no longer have a gallbladder although the pain feels the same as when I had it)! -The weakness opening things is annoying, simple things that were easy - suck now. My poor husband has become my opener of all things! -Yes, the cold weather is just stupid - cold cold all the time! - I'm also forgetful. I'm also forgetful. Oops already said that! 😉 -What I don't get is I have bones I didn't have before, I feel them now when I didn't before for my example my xiphoid process sticks out now and back when I was thin (108lbs) it didn't! -Lastly, I'm moody now, I attribute it to being weaker and clumsy now - I get sick of dropping things over and over, bumping into things and again not being able to open things - I'm looking it at you powdered Tylenol!

I also recommend at least 2 sets of good shape wear (not too tight). It helped with the swelling and comfort. I had lymphatic massages immediate after and they worked. Only go to someone who knows what they are doing or it’s just a very expensive regular massage. I was able to do them myself after a while and I recruited my BF (with our rolling pin) to do the areas I couldn’t reach.

I need Bariatric pal store recommendations

I've only tried a few products, but have found two convenience foods that are good for packing a lunch/snacks while I'm engaging in outdoor activities. The first one is the Caramel Crunch protein bars: https://store.bariatricpal.com/products/bariatricpal-high-protein-bars-caramel-crunch I also like these Protein Crisps in ranch and barbeque flavor: https://store.bariatricpal.com/products/bariatricpal-protein-crisps-ranch?variant=12060717809740
