Today has been what a day, I tell ya! I was talking to this guy at work today about weight loss, and told him I have about 25 more pounds that I want to lose, he looked at me and said he can't see where I'm going to find 25 more pounds LOL. Then I found that video and sat there and watched it like 10x in row because like I said in an earlier post today, I now see the difference. We get so used to seeing ourselves as fat that we tend not to "see" it when it starts to fall off. I was looking at the BMI chart and I am officially no longer obese, I am now overweight. I didn't think that would affect me as much as it did because I believe the BMI chart is a bunch of BS lol, bu…

Well, I received a great NSV this week from the results of my blood work, it was my 3 month post op appointment. I have my Diabetes completely under control now with no medication. My A1C test ( 3 month blood sugar average) was 10.2 before surgery, it is now down to 6.3. My Cholesterol was 237 before surgery, it is now 138. My triglycerides were 286 before surgery, they are now 96. The sleeve has been such a great tool to provide the restriction needed to lose weight. I say tool because you still have to eat right and exercise but it is doing its job. I take no medication at all and I feel great. I am well on my way to my goal weight with 65 lbs lost as of today . If I di…

Sometimes I focus too much on the number on the scale so thanks to LilMissDiva and many more here I started making little goals for myself. Lose a couple of inches here, fit into a specific size there, do more exercises, etc. To date here are my goals met: 1) Now this was the main and most important goal because it is why I did this in the first place. I went from 20pills daily to two. 2) I have gone down 40 inches (chest, arms, waist, hips, thighs) since I started my journey. 3) I am able todo my work out classes and not look at the clock and think will this ever end LOL. Now when it ends I'm like thats it??? 4) At the begining of the Summer I bought some size…

So on the 18 th of September I will be 18 months out. I have lost about 120 lbs. I love the new me!! I had been pretty much eating what I wanted for the last year and just lately about 5 lbs crept back up on me. I realized I still didn't love my body! I made the decision that I had to complete the process and finally start looking into plastics. It's so hard to lose all this weight but see the skin hang that constantly reminds you of how fat you once were. I scheduled a TT and breast lift/augment for Oct 3rd. I have taken off the weight that was creeping back up and found that having this date planned has inspired me to lose even more than my goal. I want to be as little …

I went out with some friends for Girls Night out on Friday. I knew I was going to have fun and get some much needed ME time. Well, the night started off great when I tried on a pair of size 16 jeans, buttoned, zipped, and they fit!!! In January I was wearing size 26. So while driving to town, I was thinking that it was a great night already and not thinking it could get any better. Well, while waiting on the rest of the girls to show up, a couple of us stood outside talking when one of the girls walked up and said "Susan, I didn't recognize you." It was a great feeling. Can't wait til the next GNO in October. I know some on here have had friends who have no…

So here I am almost 1 year out from surgery and as of last Friday I weigh 207 pounds, that makes a total of 137 pounds gone since the day of surgery . My surgery was Sept 2 and my birthday is August 31st, so I have a lot to celebrate :-). I'm making this post a little early because I'm going to be off for 13 days and I won't have access to a computer, hopefully when I come back I'll have pictures since I haven't uploaded any in awhile. This hasn't been easy by a long shot and for people that think it is I wish I could make them understand that it isn't. I've heard or had people comment and say "oh you took the easy way out", when they say that I just yell at them or bette…

Can't believe it has been 6 months since I was sleeved I am now down a total of 86 lbs since I began the 2 week liquid diet so 74 lbs since the day of surgery. I am down for a grand total of 81 3/4 inches! Talk about a LOT of inches lost off this body! I am now 4.8 lbs from goal but really I am fine with my weight. Though according to the BMI scale I am still overweight, I so happen to think that scale is stupid ha! I am not pushing to lose that last bit but not preventing it either, my weight is still coming off pretty nicely. Last week alone I had a huge drop and lost 4.2 lbs, this week I lost 1 lb. So my sleeve is absolutely still working. I have had so many …

So I took my kids to the y to swim. For yrs I have worn a shirt while swimming. I stood in the locker room deciding if I would go sans shirt. Back an forth back and forth my mind argued with itself. Finally i decided why not! So with slightly trembling hands I tossed the shirt in the locker grabbed my 4 yr olds hand and heade to the pool. My other 3 were already out there. So as I come out of the locker room my 13 yr old son is walking back in. He stops, and gets this funny look on his face and says "ok dad, 1st (at this point my heart is running to hide as I soo have carry guilt about my weight embarrassing my kids) ... 1st you have lost ALOT of weight!!!! 2nd you lo…

I had my "6 week" checkup today - just one day shy of 7 weeks post-op. I've had several NSV's during this time - especially in the last few days. I asked the dietician to take my measurements again today. They were originally done when I first saw the surgeon on May 18 - about 2 months before my surgery. All measurements are in inches. Body measurement May 18 August 29 Upper Arm 16 13 Forearm 11 9 Chest 46 43 Waist 52.5 44 Hips 61 57 Upper Thigh 33 28 Mid Thigh 29 22 Calf 19.5 19.5 The only measurement that did not change is my calf. I can't believe how much my waist and thighs have changed though! I have gone from a size 28W pants to 24W. My tops have g…

I have done a lot of weight loss programs and my favorite thing was to get the sticker or the bear or the whatever when you lose 10% of your body weight. I can't tell you how many times I tried to hit that 10%. Well I just looked at my ticker and I have hit my 10% and I didn't even realize it!!!! I have been home from Mexicali for a week and I hit my frickin' TEN PERCENT!

Today, I was getting dressed for a day around town and as I pulled my size Medium tissue T by Mossimo for Target over my size 10, fit 4 Merona for Target jeans, I didn't like the way my shirt looked outside my jeans so I finally thought, how will it look tucked? I tucked it in and it looked -insert drumroll here- GREAT!!! It's the first time I've worn a tucked in shirt with pants without a jacket to hide the bulges since the mid 90s! Yahoo!!!!! And I still have 42 lbs to goal. What next - a belt? And I wore it all day with sandals and at the end of the day my feet were not screaming for mercy! With nearly 50 lbs. less of me than last summer, I can actually wear the c…

Someone posted about losing friends for having successful sleeve surgery. Here's my experience. A lifelong friend came to Houston to have prostate cancer surgery. He did not mentioned the date and time of the surgery. Worried and concerned family and friends contacted me to check on him. He is overweight, and need to lose 100 pounds as part of his treatment. In visiting him, I explained the details of the sleeve but never suggested he have one (his wife asked). After he was discharged from the hospital and returned home (all cancer removed). I called him several times to check on his condition. Don't know if is his mental outlook about the cancer or my successfu…

Yesterday I was clowning around with my hubby, Joking with him about his height. We have a running joke that he is short (@6ft he's really not). But I kid with him that he is. And when I put on my heels I am taller than him so there for he is short. I know we are corny newlyweds, we will Celebrate our 1yr anniversary this sunday. Anywho back to my topic. During my clowning I had my back to him, walking to the shed, laughing the whole time. He proceeded to scoop me up and carry me to the storage house. Can you say I was shocked, estatic, and thrilled all at the same time. I have never been picked up easily let alone carried anywhere. I felt like the girls in…

This morning I went to a "prayer breakfast" that was held at the union hall that I usually work at. I was asked to video tape it for the local, so I took my video camera. The Breakfast I did good with - had scrambled egg and a sausage patty and 1 bite of hashbrowns (I was given about 1/2 cup that ended up being thrown out). I ate my Protein first and then had the bite of hashbrowns and I was full. I spent a couple of hours on my feet holding my video camera - so now my back and arm are sore. It's the longest I've been able to stand/walk around, so even though I'm sore, I'm very happy about that. There were a few people there that I haven't seen in a while (like since 2…

So I've been anxiously awaiting getting to this point, the first of my goals. This morning, the scale said I was down 73 pounds from the morning of surgery, and that puts me out of "obese" on the BMI scale and into simply "overweight." !!!! Next goals: 1. To make my Labor Day goal of being down 75 pounds total, so 2 more pounds to go in a week, which I think I can do; 2. To weigh less than my husband (I need to drop probably 12-15 more pounds to achieve that); 3. To reach my dietician's goal for me (211 pounds--I'm 6'2"); 4. To drop into Onederland, where I haven't been since grad school at age 27; 5. To finally hit my "flexible" goal of 190. My surgeon…

Has anyone here had the sleeve and not lost weight? Is there a failure rate?

What a great morning!! I was really hoping to break into the 170's before my surgery on Thursday... well I beat that by 4 days!! WHOOTT!! AND... From my highest weight ever, I'm down a total of 150.2 LBS!!!!!! WOW!!!!!!!! I never did imagine I'd be right here where I am right now. In only 8.2 more Lbs I'll have lost 100 Lbs total from my sleeve date. Great things continue to happen, while working the sleeve!! It's wonders are boundless!!!!

And what a six months it's been!!! I have discovered Heather (me). It's been a wonderful journey that is SO not over. My start weight (when I decided to have surgery) was 229; although I know my weight has been higher in the past. I lost really well over the next 4 months, and slowly over the last 2. My official goal was 140, although I put my ticker to 138 as my BMI would be concitered "normal" (whatever that means). As of tonight, I am 141lbs!!!!!! That is 89 lbs lost to date!!!!! I'm so excited to be here and I am enjoying life so much more. Over this summer I have found it so important to do things for ME. I started hiking up a local Mountain here. Grouse mountain wa…

I'm so excited, I got on the scale this morning and it said 349!!!! I weigh less than I did when I got married!!!!! I've stalled out a few times, but I try really hard not to stress about it because I know the weight is going to keep coming off. I focus on Protein and Water and fill in with good carbs and some veggies. My favorite meal these days is a scrambled egg with sauteed onions, mushrooms, and spinach with some seasonings - delicious! I also found out this week that I actually can exercise (haha). I've been avoiding it because exercise has always equaled pain in the past. But I've walked several miles in the past couple of days and I feel great!

I have been telling everyone that I had my sleeve done on August 9th and I am doing great. Well I saw my doctor today for my two week post op and I am doing better than great. I know this will sound crazy but he released me to eating anything I can tolerate as of today. I did become lactose intolerant after the 1st week and was told to go ahead to stage 2 soft foods at that time. I did great on the soft foods. When the doctor asked me how I was feeling and how I was tolerating my soft foods I told him it was going great. He also wanted to be sure I was not having any problems with my bowels and I assured him that was fine too. After talking and my examine…

I took this test before surgery and 8 months after surgery... http://www.realage.com/ Before surgery my real age was 60.... after surgery it was 55.... I am 58 years old. This surgery and my lifestyle changes have gained me 5 years from what it was before surgery! I less than a year. Not bad. If I do a few more simple things, it can go down even more. This website gives you a list of things you can do to get even better results the next time you update your test.

So I am almost a month out and I decided to quit taking my gout medicine because I wasn't have any pain when I was eating red meat protein. I haven't been taking any medicine for about a couple of weeks and I am not in pain anymore! Gout is a horrible condition in which anytime I ate ground beef, pork, or ham I would flare up and it would feel like poision cursing through my viens. My arms and feet would swell up and become inflamed and red. I know it is not good to eat red meat all the time, but hambuger meat is nice everyonce in a while. To not be in pain and to not have to take medicine is the best feeling in the world!

It's been so long since I've posted, but I just realized that I had the vsg 2 years ago on August 4, and wanted to give a little update. I still feel this was one of the best decisions I ever made. My start weight was 238 pounds and my goal was 148 pounds. I originally lost to 134 pounds and fluctuated from 134 to 142 for a year and a half. I am now weighing in between 152-156 pounds and have been since May of this year. I'd like to lose between 6 and 10 pounds, but am okay with where I am right now (I really don't like how I look under 138 pounds). The best thing that has happened to me in the last two years, which I feel the vsg helped me get to, was the …

So I started bartending again on day shift so I don't have to stock or mop when I leave cause we do that at night....anyway.... Football season is upon us and we have new people coming in to watch the games. We weren't that busy and my Dad had stop by to see me and play some pool with me. While I was playing pool with him a guy walked over to me and stood next to me for about 5 mins. I asked him how he was doing and he said "Great now!" all excited. I said "So your having a really good day then?" He said "I am now!" I just kinda looked at him and he said "Cause you are F**king gorgeous!" I was extremely taken back by that. Caught me off guard and I even quit playing pool.…

So before my surgery, I bought a pair of size 12 leather pants at a yard sale. I was still wearing size 18-20 but I loved the pants and hoped after surgery I could get them on. Last weekend I was going thru my older larger clothes (to give away!!!) and trying on smaller stuff and discovered that I wear a size 12! I ran to my closet and got out those soft beautiful size 12 leather pants...I flung off my newly fitting size 12 jeans and slipped easily and comfortably into the leather pants! I was so thrilled!!!! YIPPEE!! Living the dream!, Laura

Wow, very sureal to say the least I am at 204 today. 69lbs gone in three months. 5 lbs from onederland!!! I feel fantastic most of the time, and have really hit the everyone is noticing and commenting stage. I can say I honestly don't mind the female attention. :-) nice for the first time in my life! I bought a new riding vest today, a large. I bought it and loosened the side laces (leather motorcycle vest) so I think once I hit goal I can tighten it back up and it be perfect. :-). I was wearing a 3 xl vest!!!

My wife and I went away for an impromptu weekend away to one of our standard get away locations. Birch Run outlet mall in Birch Run MI. This was the first trip we've made to the mall since my having surgery. I was eager to go to some of the stores that my presurgery self would have never been able to shop, Tommy Hilfiger, RL Polo, Izod, etc. Let me also tell you that I am incredibly cheap and the only way I would ever buy anything at such stores was if it were on clearance and I had a stack of coupons. The clearance shopping gods were smiling on me this weekend! Not only were there some great prices, perfectly caught the end of summer season polos, jeans, shorts…

Hi everyone, Been a while since I posted but I just have to share my excitement. I am about 1-2 pounds away from ONEDERLAND!!! I can't stand it!!! I am fitting in extra workouts this week just so I can get there sooner! I still have a while to go (at least 20 more) but I am so proud of the steps I have made to change my life on both a physical and emotional level. I have said it before to others who struggle.....the band is just a tool, the strength and dedication comes from within you! What I found to help me to succeed: 1. An amazing support system....my surgeon and his staff, my family and friends, all of you.... 2. Being involved in support groups (both Lapband p…

I was passing by a park today and I immediately made my husband pull over. In the past, I was too big to fit on a swing so I wanted to see if I could fit now. And yes I can!!!! It felt so good sitting on that swing pushing myself higher and higher. I used to love swings as a little girl and still do. I am very happy to know that getting on one is now something I can do. It feels great!!
