PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

I was wonder about how many ounces of full liquids everyone was able to consumer at a meal in the full liquid phase. For example, I am on day 4 post op and I feel great, like nothing has happened other than my stitches, but this evening I made homemade egg-drop soup with just the whites and I was able to drink the majority of a cup in about 30 minutes. Is this normal. I feel like I have NO restriction. The way the doc's talked they said I would only be able to probably have 1 to 2 ounces. Or did they mean, 1 -2 ounces of solids. I am soooo confused... Is there something wrong with me?

Im just wondering something. I just read in one of the threads that someones surgery lasted 4 hours. How about the rest of you, how long was everyones surgery?? Thanks! CJ

I was told that a few days before my banded day(9/5) that i could have a "pig out" day. Does anyone know if this is true? Please let me know if you have heared this to. Because if it is true i would like to know before my surgery day!!:confused:

Hi eveyrone, I got the band today. When I first woke up my vison was totall bured. I tought it went away, but I got home I tried rea the newspaper, ready about my new rx's and I coulldn't read them. It like things are really blurry up close, even now as im typing, far away I see things clearly. I've always had perfect vision, so ths is really got me woried. Is it just from the anesthia? Did anyone else experiance this? It's driving nuts having to have family real instruftions and :cool:pill bottles to me.

Just got banded yesterday and I'm having no fun at all. The recovery is very painful. One weird side effect, however, is that my vision has gobe all blurry. I cannot read and am having trouble just typing this note, Anybody had this happen? Might be the painkillers but am open to anyone else's suggestions.

Hi all -- I was banded on August 29 - a week later (and 10 lbs less!) I'm so hungry I could eat my shoes. On past diets, I've been able to get away with a tablespoon of Peanut Butter - hits the spot without triggering overeating -- but I'm not sure that it would count as a "soft" food? Actually, I'm technically support to be on liquid Protein for another 2 weeks, but frankly, I'm hungry enough and feel sufficiently recovered that if PB falls under the mushie stage and people haven't had problems with it, then I'm willing to chance it! I was just wondering if anyone was from Far North Houston. Like around IAH or Kingwood. I have a membership at Ballys and love the step class but can't seem to make myself go on a regular basis. I am will to walk around a track so long as I have company. Husband not interested because he "walks" all day long at work and daughter works nights.

I am in San Antonio, TX. I was banded on July 9th with a follow-up visit scheduled for 2 weeks later on the 26th. My dr. is with New Dimensions WLS & very highly rated, however, I am really upset. They were affiliated with Weight-Wise out of Oklahoma City. WW provided the clerical staff, the PA's that did the fills, the facility where patients were seen, seminars & classes given. When I went in for my follow-up visit, I was told that the dr. couldn't see me. WW had notified the surgical group the weekend before that they didn't want to continue with the affiliation. The surgeons now are scrambling to find someone to do the fills. They are also looking for…

Has anyone had the problem of not being able to keep protein down? I was filled at the end of June and ever since I can not eat protein!!! I cut it into very small pieces and chew at least 50 times but it still gets stuck and I eventually throw it up!! I seen the doctor yesterday and he unfilled me 1cc and he said that might work, has anyone been unfilled for this reason. I am down almost 50lbs but it is not a healthy way to loose weight. I am living on coffee and water and I am soooo hungry. I feel like an anorexic trapped in a fat body!!! Any suggestions for this problem please write me. Thank you

Hi y'all The past couple days nothing has been staying down. Everything gets stuck. I can keep Water and coffee down but, even slim fast goes down rough. I'm in a state of panic thinking my band slipped. I had a fill 2 weeks ago and everything was ok up until yesterday. It's that time of the month (sorry guys) could that have something to do w/ it? I'm very nervous and need some one to tell me some thing. How would I know if my band did slip? And what should I do? I'm gonna just try musshies for the next few days and call my doc on tuesday seeing as how mon a holiday. Any advice would be helpful.

My shoulder is killing me. It's hurt to breath even. I have been on the go all day so walking and activity shouldn't be an issue. I've been taking the gas X. It's pretty bad right now. Any advice please?

I had my surgery on Wednesday, and I just talked to the doctor, he said I need to get some high protein low calorie drinks that can be colored, but clear...I need suggestions...help!!!!

I had the lap band surgury on Wednesday (9/5) (on Long island, Dr. Brackman) and when I take small sips, it hurts when it reaches my tummy...is this normal? When wil this feeling start subsiding, I am hardly drinking anything. What opther experiences do you get, also I have been sleeping ALOT

because I don't want to stress myself on how much I've lost or not lost. I will be leaving it up to the doctor to determine what my needs are based on the information I give him; i.e., fills, etc. Does anyone else feel that way?

I've been researching the Lap Band for several months now and have attended a few seminars... and now I have my first office visit on Monday!! :whoo: The problem I'm encountering is fairly minor, but it does worry me. I have a VERY sensitive stomach... I feel queasy after eating (which doesn't stop me, but I digress...), when I'm hungry or even when I'm sick. I worry that my "nausea" level may cause some unwanted side effects to the procedure. I just want to make sure I have careful precautions before I go into this. Hi! I will be three weeks out Tuesday and am in the "soft foods" stage. Is anyone at this stage eating salads? I'm getting hungry for one; funny I never enjoyed salads that much before I was banded. I am about "softed" out..........Thanks.

I had my band put on Aug. 13. My first fill is Sept. 13th...I cannot wait! I am at thestage where I can eat pretty much anything. I am sure things will be different after the fill but I will still have to eat. I travel a lot with my job and I just get really hungry on the road. I never know what to eat. I need some guidance from those of you who work on the road. I also find it so hard to not drink a 1/2 hour before or 1 hour after. If anyone has any suggestions that can help me I would greatly appreciate it.

I am just wondering who stayed the night (or more than one night) at the hospital/surgery center where you had your surgery done? Mine is going to be outpatient and I will be sent home about 4 hours after surgery. For those of you who stayed the night, did you feel that you really needed to stay the night or would you have felt more comfortable at home? And, those who went home the day of surgery, would you rather have stayed the night at the hospital? I'm a bit nervous about going home. Yes another newbie, and I haven't even been banded yet. My date is Sept 28 in Monterrey,MX with Dr. Miguel Zapata. I have been reading and reading and reading until I am so confused I don't even know now if I want the surgery. I had to take out a loan, which to me is worth it since my BC of TN abosoultely under no circumstances will pay for weight loss surgery. Hello everyone! The big day is Friday. Did they weight you on your surgery date? I'm nervous I've gained 1-3lbs since my pre-op visit.

I had my surgery on August 7th. I did the 2 weeks of liquid, and now I am on my second week mushy food. I eat small meals but I feel like I can eat more, I dont ever get that full feeling. I feel like I had nothing done. If I wanted to I could probably eat something normal. I tried a piece of chicken and chewed it and i was fine. I dont cheat or eat more than I should because I want to loose wieght because this is why I had the surgery. I am afraid that if I dont start to have that full feeling I might go back to my bad habits of picking on things all day long and eating too much at a meal. I get my first fill on September 21st. I know you are under anesthesia but did they also numb the stomach area or were you sore immediately upon awakening?

Has anyone ever tried OA meetings? I am thinking about trying them to learn how to control or manage my poor eating habits before I get banded. Anyone familiar?:bounce:

Hello everyone. I was banded on 4/30/07 and tomorrow (6/26/07) I get my first fill. I'm having anxieties and getting nervous. I have heard that they numb the area first and that you can't really feel it, but I'm still nervous. Does anyone have any comforting words/experiences to share? I don't even know where to begin. I have been going through all the pre-op tests and what ever. Just recently finished seeing the pshyciatrist, and jumping through all of those hoops. I waited for over a week for the hospital to contact me, and nothing. Finally I called them, and they said that the recomendation from the psychiatrist stated that I needed to see another head doctor to learn to deal with "issues". When I asked what they were, I was told that she said that I needed help with giving up junk food, pop and smoking. Okay, maybe I am freaking myself out. But I have a question for the ladies. Did any of you experience a heavy period during your liquid diet? I’ve always had erratic periods and when I do bother to bleed it has been very light, 3 days tops. I started the pill some time ago, 3 years, and my periods have been at best a tablespoon. I have been on the protein diet for 5 days. (Yes, PMS, Liquid Diet, and a Holiday Weekend all at once.) And now I find myself tormented by a full fledge period that I haven’t experienced since my body was adjusting to birth control. Have you experienced this or anything similar? I was 249. I lost nine pounds prior. I was 240 and now 228. I had surgery august 24th. Is this normal? I'm still tight as well.

I had a sleep study, and evidently it turned out okay or else they would have made me have another, but I am worried because I know I jolt myself out of a dead sleep several times a night like I am scared. They told me that if I had sleep apnea I would have to wear a cpap machine during the surgery because if I stop breathing under general anesthesia, it is possible I will not be able to start again unless I have the cpap. I find that I jolt awake mostly when I am just drifting off to sleep. Has anyone else had this problem or concern?:phanvan

I am 5 days post op and have developed a rash on my left theigh and a little on my stomach. They are like little pimples and they itch. Has anyone else had anything like this?? Guessing it is an alergic reaction to something.:help:

I am getting closer to surgery date and I am tring to do all of the pre op stuff. I was wondering if other doctors are requiring a pre op EGD(stomach scope). My doctor said it was to check for hiatal hernias or ulcers. Everything else going smoothly just scared that insurance will deny me.

Hi all... I just started the pureed diet portion of my post-op, and the amount of food/meals that they told me to eat seem enormous. Has anyone else experienced this? I was only able to do about 1/3 of the planned meals. Does this change as the weeks go on? I have read so many people saying that they are not getting enough food, and here I am forcing myself to eat when I am definitely not hungry... and not getting close to the suggested amount. Advice? Opinion? Happen to anyone else?

Ok I need to give a brief intro first...I had my consult with Dr. Philip Hornbostel in MO July of 2006 and my first appt. was supposed to be Oct. 24, 2006. My father became ill with lung cancer and subsequently passed away during that time so, suffice to say, I did not go to my appt. I talked with Dr. Hornbostel's office staff this morning and they said they quit the Lapband because THEIR patients gained all the weight back plus some! I'm a little worried. I have been reading on this site about fills and no one has nearly what I have and I got it just 3 days out of surgery! I went to Mexico and got the new Johnson and Johnson band that is suposed to have less risk of erosion. Well, I was also told that the band was bigger than the invacare band. The doctor said if I don't have much restriction before I left that he would give me a fill. They did a barium swallow test and I didn't have much of a restriction until they added 4.6ml. I'm just worrying now that it was too soon. Did any one else get filled this soon? Please calm my nerves. Does any one else have the Johnson and Johnson band?

My insurance requires one. I am curious what they are looking for with these. I have read that some only took an hour or so and some whe had to clear out 4 hours of their day. What is it the insurance company looking for that they want you to sit through a 4 hour therapist session???

I love Boca Burgers and I am wondering if anyone has been able to eat 1/2 or 1. I am hoping I will be able to tolerate them

Why are we not suppose to have carbination? I got banded in December and drink a can of pop prolly 4 times a week and I feel fine with it. The only thing I can remember is that my dietician said that the gas bubbles would feel me up and that's not the case at all. I didn't know what everyone else was told? Also frustrated because I went in last month and had to have my last fill removed because I couldn't keep anything down. They took me back down to my previous fill and I have gained 2 pounds!!
