Penn, I really appreciate your posts. You are alittle over a week ahead of me. My surgery is in 5 days. Reading your posts let me know what to expect. Keep telling us the good, bad, and the ugly. Information is power.

Well I just got a bomb dropped on me. My EKG from my pre op came back abnormal and unless my cardiologist will fax over a clearance for surgery, I'm screwed. My surgery is scheduled for Monday at 9am(arrive at 7) My insurance requires it to be preformed at a particular place and my surgeon only does it there once a month. If I don't get the clearance today, it could easily be 2 even 3 months before I can be reschedualed. Talk about going from euphoria to devestation with a phone call:sad2:

oh, THAT is such a bummer! so sorry to hear about the devastating phone call. I am worried about that with my EKG thing too cuz my pre-op work is just the Friday before the Monday surgery.

Do you HAVE a cardiologist? do you normally have an abnormal EKG?

I'll pray you get fast clearance and your same surgery date!

i have something abnormal in my EKG, the first one I ever had showed it. then I had it checked twice more while on phentermine earlier this year. i think I will ask for those EKG results and diagnosis and take WITH me so I don't get declined right then too.

That is a really good idea. At least talk to the Cardiologist before hand and maybe just get him to go ahead and fax over a clearance to your surgeon's office the week before. That way you won't run into a problem hopefully!

I was never seen by a cardiologist, but my pcm had me refered to the hospital to wear a 24 hour heart monitor because the ekg she gave me in March was abnormal. The cardiologist looked over the results of the monitor and said it was normal. Soo in an ideal world, he could just review his assesment and give the go ahead, but the world is NOT ideal!! His office cannot find me in their records ANYWHERE! My pcm is faxing the results over to him as we speak..

Julie M, can't say I have any bad reports so far. So I can only wish you guys good luck and don't stress over it. I also had my daughter's experience to rely upon. I went in figuring if it didn't hurt any worse than having staples removed from a crushed ankle, it was all good. So far it's A-OK. I will say because my sleep pattern was distubed I'm taking a nap in the middle of the day. Stomach is still swollen but incisions look good. Can't quite get the etch-a-sketch marks off yet. Sneezes are real special. At least I know they're coming and kind of wrap arms around middle section.

so it's all good y'all!! Will be waiting on the loser's bench for ya

Hey Ya'll, I just got back from a massage. I twisted my back tying my shoes!! Good grief. Anyway, she told me that my muscles are probably all freaked out because of my calorie intake. Because of this low calorie liquid pre-op diet it was easy to have muscle strain. I was concerned because I know after surgery they are gonna want me to take deep breaths and doing that now hurts because of the pain in my upper back. I can't imagine doing it after surgery.

Anybody else having strange things like this going on?

Hi all, those of you that have been banded this month, how are your incisions doing and how many do you have? I have 5, 4 of them are little and one is about 3" long, my little ones are healing quickly but the larger one is taking a little longer. I'm wandering if that is where the port is. I was in such a hurry to leave Monday that i did not ask which one has the port in it. Hope everyone is recovering well. I'm feeling great! Seem to be losing unrealistically (sp) fast. Maybe not though, it's probably normal, but i've never been able to lose any amount of weight before so it may just seem fast to me. I lost 13 lbs on 10 day preop diet and the day of my surgery which was 6-1-09 i weighed 260, now i weigh 250 thats 10lbs in 5 days. Good luck to the rest of the June Banders.

My surgeon's office called today to say that they had to move my surgery date. I deflated at the sound of the words, BUT... I get to move the date up!!!! So, June 8th is my new date! I'm a little freaked out that it's so soon, but if I had one wish it would have been to move the date up. So I guess wishes do come true.

whoohoo!!!

GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR SURGERY JENNIFERMARIE!!!! I GET BANDED IN ST.LOUIS,MO ON THE 8TH (mon) AS WELL... LET'S GET THIS PARTY STARTED!!!!:blushing:

Sorry to hear it's a little slow going janet (childcare). Some people swell more and again, some doctors leave some fill in the band. My daughter had fill left in hers. I don't have much restriction but I haven't pushed it either. Half a cup of Soup and I'm pretty full and it's takes me a half hour to eat that. I also have to do 60 grams, which I haven't met so far. I also buy Soups and puree them. If I was a better cook I'd make them but that's another story...lol. I didn't have the gas pain because my surgeon sucks as much back out as he can.

I'm sure within a few days you'll start feeling better. hang in there.

Well, I did it!!! I was banded Thursday morning. They let me leave yesterday evening after I tolerated stage 1 and stage 2 diet (clear liquids to Protein Drink with milk).

I feel pretty well. I am so glad I was able to finally get this done, and I am looking forward to a new, more normal life.

I was on a modified Meal Replacement type diet, for pre-op two weeks, much of January and Febm into March, trying to lose weight, I lost up to 20 lbs, because I was asked to lose 30 lbs.... I tried, I really did, but then I got really exhausted, literally could not keep my eyes open at work, and everyone was commenting about the weight loss, but that I looked really tired... 2 week diet for pre-op is not meant for longterm, but it was the only thing that worked.

But back in the late 90's when I literally starved myself to stay at 150-160 I had so many torn muscles and tendonitis, bizarrely from out of nowhere, that was when I stopped starving myself and gave up and I literally gained 90 lbs in a year....

what a journey we all have to get to this point!!!:blushing:

I'm having my surgery on Monday, June 8th. I went in to the doctor on Thursday with a sinus infection. He put me on antibiotics and told me that I'd be okay for surgery on Monday. I'm concerned about coughing at the end of my cold/infection right when I have surgery. Will it hurt to cough? I'd think so. I'm using Dr. Nicholson in Dallas/Plano. Anyone ever use him?

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
