Rancher being sued by illegal immigrants

Recommended Posts

Ok so she's the Queen of England and you're her most favorite Princess?

Sierra Vista was a great place to live except it was so small and we had to go to Tucson for most everything. The last time we went for a visit, we were amazed at how it had grown. And a little disappointed because we thought maybe we would like to go there upon retirement. Now it looks like the cost of living is so out of sight, it might not be a good place to try to find reasonable housing by a range of mountains, which is where I'd like to spend the rest of my life.

How does your sister like it? Mind if I ask what took her to Sierra Vista?

I've been called worse.

She loves it there. She's been living there for nearly 20 years. Her husband was in the Army and stationed at Fort Huachuca. The cost of living has become out of sight. They bought a modest 3 bedroom home for $105,000 in 1995 and sold it for $330,000 in 2005 which allowed them to buy a 20 year old home on a 3 acre lot nestled in the foothills of the mountains. They are currently working on remodeling the house.

sms, it certainly makes you wonder! The papers always like to sensationalize things - it sells. And for the judge to not throw out the case from the beginning, it might lead you to believe that the rancher was way out of line in some way. The judge might suspect that the dude has turned this into some kind of sport hunting.

I sold real estate in Sierra Vista for a couple of years. It was a great business then. Army men were restationed nearly every 2 years and they often bought and sold houses. I didn't know how good I had it until we moved and I was faced with trying to make a living in a town where people didn't move very often.

There were a lot of very spacious homes nestled in the foothills of that beautiful mountain range 20 years ago. I hope they found a very special spot. Remodeling is fun and frustrating. Hope theirs is more fun than frustrating!

Sms, he has the right to protect his property and business, whether you like it or not. As far as him kicking anybody, I haven't heard or read that. Even IF he did, we don't know what these people were doing. What we DO know is that they were breaking the law. I have no sympathy.

Like I said, if these people win this suit, then it leaves the chance wide open that future run-ins will lead to shooting these criminals to death. No witnesses, no legal complaints.

I seriously doubt the illegal immigrants will win this lawsuit but IF they do, then it most certainly will be appealed all the way to the Supreme Court, if necessary. There's no doubt how that will turn out.

If the law can't -- or won't -- help, he has a right to protect his own stuff. It's the way of the south, thank God.

Maybe some of you would be wailing and crying as thieves come into your house to rob you blind and/or harm you. I'd be the one blowing their brains all over my door jam as they step foot over the threshold. :rose:

Just for the record so people know where I am coming from. I own a house in Texas, I'm in Oregon temporarily due to my wife's assignment here (U.S. Army Recruiter) I voted for Mr. Bush, I am a U.S. Army veteran(retired). I work occasionally as an Army contractor. I voted for Mr. McCain, I am a Republican, I believe "Slick Willy" was an embarrassment to this country, I think Osama is full of shit but I am looking to see his "Change" happen. I don't think anybody is more firmly to the "right" than me. I agree the liberal media spoon feeds pablum to the masses, I don't watch NBC, ABC, CBS, MSNBC news because I know exactly what they are selling. I believe in the death penalty. (There!, now that I've alienated the other 99% percent of people on the forum) however...... I have never worked with any class of people more hardworking than Mexicans. Yes, they load 20 of themselves in a van after work and pop the beers before they are out of the parking lot, but work they do. My wife deals with the gifted youth of America every day, pot smokin, can't pass an entrance exam but graduated high school punks who are happy with their skateboards and plan on living with mom and dad until they are 40. These immigrants aren't the problem, come one, come all I say, here's a job that the uppity Americans won't do. If we are going to target groups of people for deportation I can think of several more deserving.

Hey, we share many of the same political views, Dan...er....Diablo. I agree that most of the illegals are hardworking. The thing is, America has limited resources. Let's fix things for American citizens, then look at immigration reform.

And to continue I think people who abuse animals should be killed. I think in general people don't understand what Mexico is like, it is horrible. If any attention was paid to the conditions there by the media, people would rethink their position on the issue.

Yeah, the conditions are pretty rough. I went to college in San Marcos, and went to Matamoros (sp?) once. The poverty was pretty bad. I can sympathize with anybody wanting to improve their quality of life....but at the same time, we have to be real about how much further the American taxpayers can go.

There are so many cruel people in the world america should set the standards for kindness and accept these people that are willing to maybe sign all the men to the military for 2 yrs so they can repay the debt that people think they owe...

Shonda, that's a fantastic theory, but it just doesn't play in the real world. Did you know that Mexico is hyper-vigilant about letting south Americans cross into their southern border?

i dont know something set off a alarm with me about this guy 12,000 people maybe he is robbing and raping them why would you put your self in a dangerous situation like that with out police back up ...unless you were doing things to the people...

and my other point would be what if you were born there and had a family and just wanted to work and take care of your family

All he did was hold them until the police showed up. If he were really evil, he would have just killed and buried them. He has 12000 acres....that's a lot of body-burying room. I wish I had that much.....but now I've said too much.

What a load of racist crap. The reason Mexicans come across the border is because we invite them. We provide all kinds of ways for them to come here, work, and have their children become a part of our country just because they were born in this country, not because they earned the right in any other way. Our corporations employ them because they are greedy and we like the system because we are greedy.

That's right....the first line of liberal defense is to cry "racism". And America is essentially an evil country. Eh, you're not going to win many debates with that, BJean.

And anyone who watches Fox and never watches any of the other networks ought to think a little about calling every other network "liberal" because they aren't liberal. They are mostly moderate and Fox is far right wing and you love what they broadcast. That doesn't make them correct and all of the others wrong. It makes them extreme and it's music to your ears.

Wrong. Rush is far right wing. Ann Coulter is far right wing. Neither have shows on Fox. The most right-wing person on Fox is Sean Hannity, and I don't watch his show. Fox is a conservative network, not a right-wing one. There are even *gasp* conservative democrats (called "blue dog" democrats). And all other networks are moderate???? That's funny.

I am not justifying people breaking the law and entering this country illegally

Lol....yes you are....."America hates Mexicans because they are racist" (justification)...."Conditions are really bad there" (justification)..."Big money's greed invites them here" (justification)

AND lastly, BJ, if main stream media is "moderate" I'm the queen of Freakin England.:rose:

Heeheehee...agree 100%

If the man wanted to work for border patrol than he should have signed up for it..but he didn't because they have rules of conduct... no kicking women..

All the dude wants to do is run his ranch without people destroying his fences, outbuildings, Water supply, and livestock.

Do you have a fence around your house or apartment building?

I saw this the other day when it was posted and intended to respond but got abducted and duct taped or something.

Actually, they ARE extremely and exceptionally liberal. I don't watch FOX. Heck, I don't even have cable. But it doesn't take a FOX watcher to realize how freakin' liberal the media is. Just watch the coverage on Obama to see how they fawn over every little thing he does.

I guess those who think they are moderate -- well, it shows how left-wing those people are is all I can say.

And for those who keep tooting the tired old horn of how Mexicans do the jobs Americans won't do, that's not entirely true. Or might I say it's deceptive.

There are many industries where Mexicans have taken over. Take the construction business, for instance. I knew a LOT of people -- real home-grown Americans -- that were making GOOD money in this field. Until the Mexicans came, undercut the American worker, and the builders took the Mexicans on and increased their profits. What we ended up with were inferior homes and buildings in many cases (yes, I have seen documented proof of this), made more cheaply because of the inferior workers.

It's not as simple as saying that Mexicans do the jobs Americans won't do. It's more like Mexicans can afford to undercut the American workers and do the job for less than the American -- who pays taxes, owns a home, and has other financial obligations here -- who can't afford to do for the same price the Mexican will do it for.

If your expertise was as a roofer and you work for a company making, say $20 an hour, how can you compete and even try to pay your bills if a Mexican comes in and says he can do it for $10 an hour while living 20 people to a rental house and sharing the rent? The builder is still selling the home for just as much money, but right off the top he got an unexpected "raise" because he saved so much on the Mexican.

Are there jobs American's WON'T do? Sure. Kids USED to mow lawns and work at McDonald's. Those jobs are now overrun by people I couldn't even understand in the days I would try to order a Mc-something.

When I lived in Houston I flat out REFUSED to hire a Mexican to do my yard. Until my husband went to Kuwait in 2003, we had always done it. However, for the year he was there, and then the year-and-a-half he was here in Virginia, it was too much to do the yard on top of all the other responsibilities I had so I hired the kid down the street to mow my lawn. I also hired him when I was chucking stuff out of the attic and for other odd jobs like taking down a small tree. I knew that the money I was paying him was going towards his college expenses. I don't care if a Mexican came in and offered to do it for half -- I absolutely refuse to hire an illegal for anything.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
