Hello everyone! I was banded on November 6th and I'm feeling pretty good. I'm really looking forward to the pureed foods. I am pleased with my progress so far. I lost 12 lbs. in one week!

Okay--3rd day from surgery (surgery was Thursday the 13th) and I have to say I felt almost 100% when I woke up this morning. I only have a few gas bubbles after eating --well drinking -- (every meal...but they are moving). It's amazing how good I feel after how bad the gas was the last two days.

Now I hope I can travel well. My mom has been hospitalized and I have to make a 4 hour ride to go see her. I packed my Protein Water, some broth and I'll have to get some fillers from the hospital. I can start mushies on day 6 (Wednesday) so it shouldn't be too hard for me.

I have NOT been hungry either. A little rumbling which it purely attributable to gas. I try to eat before I become hungry. Last night I was able to eat a 1/4 cup of broth and a popsicle thought (normally eat half of the 1/4 cup of broth and 1/2 container of jello) so some swelling must be going down.

Good luck everyone and keep up the progress. I haven't seen any weight loss yet but I'll give it another couple days since I'm sure the liquids and IV fluids added a couple pounds.

Hi all

My surgery was on Nov 6th and i'm doing ok today. After coming home from the hospital i was having terrible pains in my left shoulder and neck. i was feeling very nauseas and really didn't feel like eating. Yesterday, i spent the day out doing errands etc. and am feeling better. For awhile there, i was getting weepy and regretting that i had the surgery! I'm feeling better about it now, and reading what other people say helps a lot. I know that mostly everything will pass after time.

I was banded on the 11th. I am still a little sore but slowly getting there. I had a hernia repaired as well and that seems to hurt the most. I am getting an appetite back and looking forward to mushies starting on wed. I only have to be on liquids for a week.

I was banded on 11/12 and I am feeling really good. I only have the occasional gas pains (I just put a GasX strip in my mouth and that clears it up). The only part that is still tender is where the port is and I am still really bruised on my stomach. I am on Clear Liquids for a week - I will never again want Jello after this week  Next week I can go to "full liquids" (cream of wheat, yogurt, strained cream soups) and I cant wait. I feel hungry but am not sure if I am really hungry or just want to eat. My thoughts are with everyone else out there who are doing the same.

I had mine put in on 11/5. The surgery was pretty uneventful.

A friend of my wife's, who is a surgery resident, was in the OR with me and she was nice enough to send her text messages as to what was going on. It's funny reading them (He looks good! He's out! Trocars in!, Liver great! Band In. Port Done. Incisions closed. Off to recovery!) The whole procedure from when I was asleep to when I went to recovery was 18-20 minutes. Wow.

Both surgeons (Dr. Tiffany Jessee and Dr. Lowry) did a fantastic job. The small openings are REALLY small, and they even stitched my port incision internally. Honestly, once it's done healing, I think I'll be hard pressed to find any scars. Didn't even have to use steri-strips.

I felt pretty good when I was finally able to stay awake a few hours later, just really sore at the port site. No nausea, and I never got the shoulder pain. Went home that night and only needed to use the liquid Lortab a few times over the next 2-3 days post-op.

Since then, I've felt fantastic. with no pain. I lost 14 pounds pre-op and I'm down close to another 10 since the surgery. I have my follow-up today so I'll get a good accurate weight then.

I'm getting a bit sick of Soup and can't wait to start mushies this week!

However, it's really nice to be able to eat just a 1/2 - 3/4 cup of soup and feel pretty full. My wife's egg-drop soup recipe has become my friend!:)

I am one week out today and feeling close to myself. I had a hernia repaired so that still hurts a bit. I am definitely getting an appetite back which is hard. Glad this forum is here.

I was banded 11/17. I arrived at the hospital at 6:30 am and was home on the couch by 12:30pm. Everything went perfectly! Slept for a few hours, then woke up and had a popsicle and some Water. Slept on and off the rest of the day and night. It is day 2 and I'm feeling pretty well! Its hard to get off the couch by myself (if I'm laying down), have to call my aunt to help me up. Stomach feels tight, not sure if its the band (they say its tighter in the morning) or the incisions. But overall, I've been eating popsicles today too, had an Atkins Protein Drink, and water. Dr. gave me Lortab liquid for the pain which works really well! Been taking that every 4-6 hours on a continuous basis so as not to allow the pain to build up! Supposed to be on liquids throughout today, then off to soft foods tomorrow through 2 weeks! First fill scheduled in 3 weeks....:(

I was banded on Nov 14 and had a hernia repair as well. It went well. The gas was really the only pain that was terrible. Sometimes I would cry because it hurt so bad. I am 4 days out and I feel so much better. I am not taking any pain medication except at night to help me sleep. I had the surgery on Friday and came back to work on Monday. I haven't lost any weight as of yet but I know I will because I'm not eating anything...all liquids for 2 weeks, week 3 & 4 pureed foods and week 5 starts regular foods.

The Dr gave me pictures of my sugery and I thought that was neat to see. :(

I do get hungry but nothing like I used to get and now when I eat a popsicle or 1/2 cup of Soup I am satisfied if not full. To me that is amazing in and of itself!

Take care all!

I was banded on the 5th and have lost 11 pounds in 2 weeks. I had a hernia repair as well. Ever since the surgery, I have had alot of back pain. I attribute it to gas. I have been seeing my chiro more and am almost back to normal. I HATE my liquid diet. I start puree tomorrow for 2 weeks.

Hi everyone.......

I was banded 11/11/08 so I'm 7 days post-op and am feeling pretty good. The first 4 or 5 days were rough for me,lots of pain, soreness & discomfort.Thank goodness that has finally passed! The hunger is also hard to manage but I'm learning.I too am most hungry in the evening before bed....I kinda feel like my body is like "hey you didn't feed me today remember?".I guess it doesn't consider the liquids "real" food.LOL :rolleyes:I too have to do 2 weeks liquid then onto mushie food after I see the surgeon.I never thought I'd be so excited to eat cream of wheat or scrambled eggs in my life!!

Learning to appreciate the small things!!:(

Take care everyone!!!

I had a hernia repair also. That was worse than the other surgery part, I think. I did have the left shoulder pain, and back pain, and was most comfortable sleeping sitting up for the first two days.

Today is 2 weeks out and I feel great. I get to start my pureed foods today, and thought my 1/4 cup of scrambled eggs for Breakfast was scrumptious, lol!!!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
