Good morning July 2022 Peeps. Sounds like there's a lot of the group doing well. Hope to hear from the ones that just had surgery in the last couple days.

I am at 10 days post-op. After losing 12.5 lbs in the first week, I stalled out for a couple days. Instead of losing my normal 2-4 lbs, I lost 0.0 and 0.4. This was a bit frustrating since I am only taking in about 500 calories per day. But it is what it is. From what I read, this is how this is going to go. I am happy that my plateau or whatever, may have been a small one and this morning I showed a 2.2 lbs loss.

For those that believe a person shouldn't weigh themselves daily, I normally don't, but I wanted to record my first 4 weeks in a journal on my laptop.

Hi! Just joined for support, but I had my surgery on July 5th, with a revision on the 8th due to a leak. I'm now 16 days post-op and have been feeling better day by day, but I'm on the Protein Shake struggle bus and doing my best to keep pushing through.

Down 11lbs as of my first post-op appointment on the 19th and looking forward to it continuing!

Welcome! Oh my gosh I’m sorry you had to have revision surgery but sounds like you caught it in good time and you’re on the mend now.
I keep telling myself this soon shall pass! I’m on soft/purée foods now and so far so good. I still need to drink one shake a day to get my Protein numbers.

Hello. I had my surgery on 7/21 the switch loop. I was in horrific pain for the first two days. So much pain that I was regretting it. I'm home and better but still not OK. My blood pressure is sky high and won't come down. I did not have high blood pressure prior to this.

How did you know you had a leak?

How did you know you had a leak?
I was still in the hospital at the time, and my surgeon had a feeling something was wrong after looking at my drain and ordered a barium swallow. The swallow confirmed his suspicions and he had me back in surgery on the 8th for the repair.

Hello mu July buddies,

had my gastric sleeve surgery was July 21st. I was absolutely sick with nausea the last week of liquid diet prior to surgery. The 21st came and I was happy to just get nausea meds. Surgery went well. I woke up in such gas pain on my chest it hurt so bad. It was rough. Day 1 after surgery super sucked. Then next day was continuing to get worse. So I stayed in hospital another night. By the next day pain in my chest subsided so I was ready to come home but then my blood work came back and my potassium levels were critically low so I had to literally chew potassium pills to bring it up to be discharged. I had to do it twice just to leave the hospital it was so gross. It was like I was chewing white sand. Gaggable really, but I got my levels up and came home. Doing better everyday. But it is definitely a process. My wounds are still sore mostly right side (dr said thats where they pulled out my stomach so pretty tender. Just wanted to give a update. And let people know Im here for questions and support

It is mind boggling to me that people are being told not to use their CPAP machines?! Like, that is a life saving device?? My sleep apnea is so severe, I stop breathing 56 times an hour. My oxygen falls into the 60's. At any point I could just NOT start breathing again. My sleep apnea is the main reason I had to go on blood pressure medicine because it skyrocketed my BP. My body was literally running on fumes.

If they told me not to use my CPAP for ANY reason I would flip the bird and put that thing on my face every night. It is not an OPTIONAL thing when you have to use those. I had mine in recovery and in my hospital room to use as I was sleeping. I know "every program is different" but when it comes to a lifesaving device such as a CPAP, I personally don't see any scenario that would feasibly allow that to be banned, even if for a short time.

Had my surgery 7/22. I had no gas pain but definitely pain from the Laproscopic surgery, especially on the right side. I was the last surgery of the day and I stayed overnight in recovery. They didn't have me up and walking until about 5:00am to go to the bathroom. Getting out of bed that first time was painful. It gets better though. I barely lost weight on the Pre-op diet - maybe 4 lbs. I weighed myself the second day after surgery and was up 4.2 lbs. I was bloated from the IV and constipated. Will weigh again when I feel my bloat has gone away. Things I was immediately grateful for after surgery were chapstick, extra long phone charging cord, and my sleeping mask that has built-in speakers. Seriously, those were the only items I used out of my well-packed and well-prepared hospital bag. I stopped taking the oxycodone after the second day and am just on extra strength Tylenol, muscle relaxer, and stool softener. I don't feel hungry and am drinking a combination of Protein Shakes, chicken broth and popsicles. I am almost up to 64 ounces of Water too.

First night here so far so good..I have pain but it's only in my stomach area. I feel like I'm having stomach growling no other pains in arm or neck. Drinking Water room temp is best as cold made my stomach growling worse. I will report back in am or when I'm home.

Im so glad you’re doing well. I think I was in a lot of pain due to hiatal hernia repair as well as sleeve. I also have allergy to narcotic pain medication. So I also wasn’t on pain medication. I can’t remember last time my stomach has growled. I have no hunger pains. Its odd. I had 3 hours of rest after procedure then I had to start walking. I was so out of it. But at day 5 post op Protein is still a struggle to digest. Im over the Liquid Protein. I have been pushing it a bit with the walking. But also trying to rest.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
