I have some info in the Drs that will be used by TLC Edge in Dallas.

I was sent some bios from one of their staff.

If anyone would like this please email me at shanmorton@gmail.com. It's a word document and it's fairly large.

I am going to use them b/c 1) insurance denied me and 2) they have a special going on right now until the end of Feb. I am researching the drs myself on the web.

Please send info to me at nikhansen@yahoo.com

I am having my surgery with Dr Kim on March 20, 2008. I am glad to hear he is good and well as TLC. I was planning on having my surgery on Thursday and going back to work on follwing Tuesday. Is that enough time?

Your plan of having surgery Thursday and going back to work the following Tuesday was what I intended to do. But I was still not ready. I took a full week off. But as you will find everyone is different. You will love Dr Kim and his staff. Also TLC are great. I only have 2 more days of mushies and I will be on reqular food. I can't believe it's almost been 4 weeks since my surgery. I am scheduled for my first fill Mar 6th. I am ready.

congratulations tweenwaters on the loss! I'm still drinking that darned Optifast and getting really tired of it. However, I will make it. Surgery is next Monday. I have Dr Gonzalez and he seems really competent and compassionate.

I'm getting to the point of not wanting anything rather than drinking an Optifast. I know I need the nutrition; just have to force it down now.

How hard are the following 2 weeks after surgery going to be just going Optifast if I'm already this tired of it?

This mushie stage is hard. I am hungry all the time. I am really fighting to keep my portions small. I am still drinking 2 Protein Shakes a day. I sure hope when I get my fill on March 6, it helps. I am holding my weight but wish I could loose some.

I'd have to say the mushie stage was the hardest for me as well. I think the first two weeks, my body was going through so much healing ( being swollen) that i wasn't really hungry. It was a struggle to get in 2-3 Optifast shakes per day. Then on to the mushie stage, and WOW...I was starving. I think just picking a few different choices and sticking with them has helped me on that. For the mushies (even now on regular foods too)....I would have cottage cheese and a small amount of diced peaches mixed together, Campbell's select Soups (Minestrone is my fav...), 2 scrambled eggs, small amount of tuna w/ lite mayo...plus a cheese stick ... So far going back to "real" foods, I've been sticking to the foods mentioned but have also tried a grilled chicken breast (teryaki marinated) with soft cooked cauliflower. I ate about 6-7 oz chicken breast and felt I had over done it BIG TIME....chest pain, lump in my throat kind of full/sick feeling. Next time, I will have 1/2....walk away and if still feeling hungry have the rest in an hour or so. I was feeling really frustrated during the mushies that i had gained 2-3 pounds....and then it just dropped. I need to update my ticker but according to my home scale, I'm down 25 lbs since Jan 3rd (beginning of my 2 week pre-op diet). My first fill will be on 2/28......has anyone with TLC given out a guideline on fill days....what not to eat/drink and then following 2-3 days? I've read and heard different things and was just wondering. If no one here knows, I'll call TLc to ask and then post what I learn on this link later. Thanks for all the support and encouragement!! It's great to have this group to share with....makes it comforting to know we're all close together with surgery dates and can share struggles and victories. Best wishes to all of you and keep posting!!

I asked them about eating the day of the fill. I had a choice to go in early in the morning 8:00 or wait till 3:30 in the afternoon. The girl I talked to she would take the early morning appointment and go in without eating and then stay on liquids 2 days after. Let me know what you find out. Something else. My port area has been feeling really good. Today I started to feel a pulling around that area. Go figure, I can't put my finger on what I have done different. Anyone else felt this after 4 weeks from surgery.

Hidy Hidy Everybody

I had surgery on Valentines and am back to work today. I feel pretty good, just sore like I've been kicked in the belly. Thanks for all of the well wishes. I hate to be redundant but I can't say enough good things about Dr. David Kim, his P.A. John Kane, the girls at TLC Edge and The Prestonwood Surgery Center. Everyone without exception treated me like I was the most important person in the world. Truly a great bunch of people to be around. I am glad everyone that had surgery before me is writing about their experiences so I know what to look forward to.

Thanks again for the well wishes and I am glad to be post-op.

Cowboy, glad you are doing so well. Just don't rush it. Keep us posted on how you are doing. Sure is nice to have so many that used the same surgery center posting together. I am glad you felt the same as I did about Dr Kim and the whole staff, they really are wonderful.

Yea Cowboy! I'm next! So excited...

Glad to hear all went well and your already back to work. Please keep us informed of your weight loss.

Also, I think I'm the only one that doesn't have Dr Kim on this board. Of course, I live east of Plano and he wouldn't have been logical for followup visits. Dr Gonzales is out of Medical City in Dallas. I hope to give a glowing report on him as well next week.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
