Wow, that is such a wierd diet. My surgery is this Friday, and I don't have to do any of that.

My surgery is the 19th. I have to be on a 2 week low calorie diet which is basically a liquid diet of Water, 3-4 Protein Drinks a day and 6 servings a day from a list of things like sugar free jello/pudding, 8oz of milk, unsweetened applesauce, a packet of oatmeal, etc. I worry it’ll be a struggle and be very rough. It’s amazing how every doctor/surgeon has different requirements. I was in a class in December where all 3 of us are going to have the gastric sleeve. 2 of us with the same surgeon were required to go on this diet 2 weeks prior to surgery and the 3rd person who had a different surgeon did not have to have any diet prior to surgery. Best of luck! My nerves are really kicking in! I had the lapband 10 years ago so this is not my first surgery.

I had an EKG that showed and abnormal result, they sent me for a cardiac echo and everything was fine. The tech told me a lot of people who have and abnormal EKG it is because of loose leads. hope things work out well Good Luck.

Omigosh softbalmom, I’m so glad you mentioned this! When the tech was getting me ready, she had to attach the ankle leads at least two times because they wouldn’t stay on due to me having put on lotion! I hope that’s all it was too.

I guess this just goes to show that everyone's program is different - and sometimes REALLY different :)

Day 6 of the 2-week liquid diet is mostly done, and yet I'm not in ketosis. How on earth does that work? (They checked urine this morning.) I've averaging 650 calories per day, less than 35 g. of carbs per day (usually way less) and yet no ketosis, which makes me worry a little about my liver not shrinking. Down 8+ pounds.

My hospital apparently has a complex program to address narcotic abuse, so the medicine regimen in the days leading up to surgery is crazy - celebrex, gapapentin, anti-nausea meds, Colace, Tylenol, some sugary drink to prevent your glucose from tanking, all timed out. I walked out with 17 pages of instructions, lol, and that doesn't include the binder full of info for this Friday's class.

Also met the surgeon for about 5 minutes. It was a good day, but for some reason I'm not excited about this. Not sure if it's because I'm being realistic or if something else is off. Maybe overcompensating so I don't have a freak-out? Not sure. I'd be interested to know how others are feeling as they get closer to surgery.

do you have any diet restrictions before surgery? I also have to take 7 pks of Miralax with Water two days before surgery and again the day before.

Mine is just a preop diet, 2 to 3 shakes per day, unlimited non starchy vegies, and one meal to include 3-4 ouncews grilled, baked, or broiled meat or other whole food Protein. BUT, the unlimited vegies put me in the hospital last week, because i ate a lb of baby carrots throughout the day, and they caused a blockage in my bowel! So unlimited, really isn't unlimited. :)

Anyone the 19th? Just had my pre-op blood work and EKG yesterday. I have my appointment with my doctor next Wednesday and then start the diet on Friday. Things are starting to get real. Anyone who has already had the surgery ever have any other surgery and if so can you compare discomfort? I’ve been put under countless times and cut open quite a few times. But nothing like this is my fear. I did have Excess skin removal surgery after my lapband before I had it removed so I wonder if it compares to that? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I’m nervous.

I’m the 17th, so close! Getting nervous, and I’m not sure if reading all these forums is helping or hurting, LOL. How did everyone decide on their goal weight? I want to pick something that seems achievable but sustainable above all.

Really good but it was a lot of whirlwind action. I am concerned about one thing that could be a biggie. I had to have an ECG and they detected a sinus rhythm which made for an abnormal result. Am anxiously waiting for someone to let me know what this means and if I need a cardiology visit before surgery.

I only have to do two days of liquid only which I was really surprised about. And will need another COVID test done on next Sunday. So I’m nervous but moving ahead like everything will be ok.

How are you? Your surgery is coming up fast!

Is there a reason your only having to do the liquid only for 2 days? I have my physical/final visit with Dr on Feb 1st as my surgery is Feb 9 and I have some questions. I am barely over the BMI required to have this surgery but due to a extremely large list of other health problems I am in need of this surgery. So I am scared if I do this diet for 1 entire week i will be under the needed BMI. Anyone else had or have this issue?

I think reading all of these posts hurts me most days lol! It’s a mind game for me that’s all. I’m fine and I read one that scares me and it makes it worse and then I read one that’s encouraging. It’s up and down. My goal weight was a decision between myself and my surgeon. He’s been a doctor of mine for over 5 years and we are just aiming for a healthy “me.” No fitting into any chart just what is right for me. What about you?

I’m trying to figure out where I last felt good physically and mentally in my body — sometimes that’s hard. I’m 50, and my knees and back are cranky, which is a large part of the reason for the surgery for me. I want to get back to doing the things I used to really enjoy, like hiking and maybe even skiing if things go well.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
