February 2021 Sleeve Surgery

Recommended Posts

I finally got the call around 3:10 pm today that my insurance has approved my surgery and I am going in on Monday. I have to be there at 5:30 am. I am excited and terrified at the same time. My hubby is just dropping me off since there is a no visitor policy in place. No point in missing a days work.

Yay for you! Are you ready, other than your nerves? I go next Thursday but need to start getting a hospital bag together. I almost feel like I’m nesting like before having a baby. Lol

Best wishes for your new life!

Ready as I'm going to be I guess. I had no pre-surgery diet to do. No colon cleanse. Been trying to be good this week while also eating all my favorites that I may miss in the near future. I know the thing I will miss most is my wine. The thing I won't miss most is hating my reflection when I look in the mirror. I started packing my bag but it's only 1 night (god willing) so I shouldn't need much.

Hi everyone. I am new to this site & forum. My surgery is scheduled for Feb 8th! I started this process back in February of 2020 as far as meeting eligibility requirements. I’ve had my surgery rescheduled multiple times due to moving to another state and COVID. Hopefully no more changes! I am so excited to be going through this process and even more happy that I found this site and get to go through it with you guys!

Xoxo🙂

What are you all packing for an overnight hospital stay? I have my fuzzy robe, very loose yoga pants, loose t-shirt, granny undies and a sports bra. Not much as far as toiletries, just toothbrush/paste/floss and a facial wash. Adding: my Crocs which are my slippers. And my phone charger, of course! Am I missing something?

Sports bra is a great ideal. I am taking phone charger and a cheap pair of house shoes so I can walk in hall and I am a germ phobic so I will trash them before I leave hospital. I don’t want to walk hall in the socks and get in bet with them. Thought I would use hospital gowns because of IV that still need to be inserted. Anything else I will use what hospital provide. I did read people talking about chap stick. What I were there I will wear home.
I hate that we have to go alone.

Anyone in Chicago I am going to University of Chicago.

Great ideas, both of you! I'm currently doing laundry so I can start packing. I have my toiletries all ready to go. Aside from the usual things, I've also got lip balm and Biotene mouth spray. I had to order it online but I've heard it's great when you're feeling dry and dehydrated. I already use their mouthwash and love it.

I also have a wall plug and extra long charging cord. I have a fuzzy robe, but it's actually too big and thick to fit into my overnight bag. It would take up the whole thing! I might pack a thinner one just to cover all the important parts while walking the halls. Speaking of walking, can we just wear the shoes we come in with? Mine are slip-on Vionics and I really don't care if I look homeless wandering around in a robe and sneakers :P

I'm also bringing face wipes. I don't see myself showering there if I'll be out in a day, but it's still nice to wipe away some of the day's grime, real or imagined.

Anyone bringing a book? Do you think we'll have time or the concentration to read? I kinda think my phone is all I'll need.

It's getting really real, now. I've had a few more mini-meltdowns, especially after the two-hour online class. I've heard it all before, but it's still overload.

Oh a book! Yes, I’ll bring one although I do wonder how much I’ll be able to read. And for sure some lip balm and hand lotion.

My hospital is allowing one visitor and my husband can wait for me to get out of recovery. I don’t know if he will. Im kind of ok if he doesn’t feel comfortable with that. I’d rather he limit his exposure time. If he can wait until they take me to the OR that’ll be good with me.

I’m super excited and not nervous at all! But there’s still time for nerves to kick in.

When I had my class for my surgery they actually told me not to bring all that stuff. They said wear loose comfortable clothes, bring your phone, and a charger. No slippers, no robes, no excess. They provide the toiletries.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
