I was much better at hospital. Since being home severe pain on lower left which he said was normal because that’s where most of the work was done. I was expecting to bounce back faster but this one has been rough. How are y’all doing?

I had to go and pick up some compression stockings which are designed to compress my legs while I am sleeping and I did ask if the would fit me the guy took one look at my legs and said no she doesn’t need the extra large ones. I tried to put them on tonight and they do not fit. I will be calling in the morning to give them a piece of my mind. These things cost me $75.

I'm a bit restless. Doubled up on pain med and got my heating pad on high so comfortable now. Throat is a bit dry so hubby went to get crushed ice.

I have a question for the Protein Drinks wat calorie content right after surgery did you guys Drs tell you it shouldn't be over not the grams of Protein but the calories because most of the ones I've seen are like 130 or over I was told it should be under a hundred but that wasn't by my dr. I'm just hearing different things I don't want to take too many calories I'm not supposed to have. Surgery October 26th so I'm trying to start buying things now

I am a bit restless as well. So sore. Feel like been kicked in the guts. And it hurts through to my back. But I did just pass some gas. That I am excited for.

I am little sore too. It was just right side but now seems to be whole abdomen area. And when under cover I get too hot but shiver of out from under the cover.

Oh ladies you all make me feel better. I was starting to feel dramatic but this has by far been the hardest recovery from and abdominal surgery I’ve had. My mouth is so dry and no matter how much I drink it goes back dry. I’m sending my son for some Powerade zero hoping that some electrolytes will help.

I brought mine home from the hospital but I’m not sure I could ever get them on. Especially by myself

I know it...I have cotton mouth so bad. A few sips of Water and my stomach feels soooooo full. I may need hubby to get me some powerade! I forgot about that. I'm still a bit sore too.

4 days post-op. I drove myself to get a haircut and now I'm sitting at Wal-Mart waiting on new tires- going home and resting after this. Definately a little sore, but today I've only had one tylenol.

After surgery, I was really sleepy, but did get up and walk as instructed. Burping, but no gas, which the doctor said was a fine start. I was on morphine push button, and amazed how good I felt. After drinking some Water, then Fairlife milk (allergic to lactose) and broth, they announced me good to go and I left the next day about 5 after drain removal. Unfortunately, the dingy resident taped my drain cover to my glue incisions, and it peeled off the glue from two incisions when changing. So now I look like a marshmallow puff of gauze coverings. RME

The 70 minute drive home killed the happy no pain illusion from morphine, and the first night home and next day sucked. I alternated my hydromorphone and tylenol and used my ondansetron for nausea. My doctors don't believe in protein- they just want you to drink endless milk and double milk and your water. That's a bit hard when lactose intolerant. They also said use pudding (not popsicles or Jello (since they have no nutrition value). Ummm..pudding has been too thick, and quite honestly, food at all (or drink) is incredibly unappealing. So I've had some jello with a little Protein Powder, the bari-wise Protein beef broth Soup and forced down some GNC lean shake lactose-free shakes with my water.

As I said, not feeling great today, but much better, up and moving, getting things done. I also ordered a binder to help from Amazon. That should be here later today. Hoping that will help during sleeping?

Literally every part of my body hurts. If it was just my stomach, I could take it. But it’s my back, legs, arms, neck, etc.

Well done! It's crazy it feels like such an accomplishment, but it really does, doesn't it? I told my teenager, all excited, and she just looked at me like..."Oh, Mom-" LOL

The Powerade has seemed to help some. Took a short nap and not as dry of a mouth. Going to keep sipping on that today. Sadly my son got red and it seems a bit sweet. He works at a grocery store so he’s bringing me home yellow tonight.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
