Anyone stay on shakes for meal times longer than first couple weeks?

Recommended Posts

Newbie here and I tried to search forum for similar topic but couldn't find much. My surgery is set for 5/8/18 and I was wondering, post-op, has anyone stayed on Protein Shakes only(whether for breakfast-lunch-dinner or just breakfast-lunch) for longer than the typical 1-2 weeks? I have been doing blended Protein shakes for Breakfast for couple years and lunch on/off at times. I prefer them as quick alternative in mornings as I'm on the go with kids/work. I didn't know if anyone stayed with a similar schedule after their surgery or has everyone gone to eating solids as weeks went on. Love to hear anyone's experience. Thanks!

Yes, I have a shake a day, only because even after 6 months, I find it difficult to actually consume 80-100 grams of Protein via food, therefore I rely pretty heavily on my shake.

I still drink a shake or Protein Water every day. Like Sammy, I couldn't hit my numbers otherwise.

I still use Protein Shakes for breakfast because I don't really like eating when I first wake up. I also use them when I am out and about and don't want to stop for fast food.

I drink one caramel Premier Protein in my coffee everyday. I figure 30 bonus grams of Protein doesn't hurt:)

I still have between half and a whole Protein Drink per day. I use it as coffee creamer and to make iced coffees.

Took me almost six months before I could meet my goal without supplements and still couldn’t do it daily. I’m going on five years out and still supplement a few times a week most weeks. My sleeve is on the small size.

Here is some information about premiere shakes that will open your eyes.

Protein shakes

Per 11 fl oz bottle, vanilla: 160 calories, 3 g fat (1 g saturated fat), 270 mg sodium, 4 g carbs (1 g Fiber, 1 g sugar), 30 g protein

Commonly used in over-processed breads, DATEM (DiAcetylTartaric acid Esters of Monoglycerides) is used as a shelf-stabilizing emulsifier in both dough and Protein Shake applications, as Protein Powder is notoriously difficult to mix with Water. Unfortunately, this additive is often made from artery-clogging partially hydrogenated oils, which the FDA will ban from food products starting in June 2018. Premier Protein responded to us and said their DATEM is only made from fully-hydrogenated oil—but why use it in the first place, when so many others don’t?

Additionally, here is a link https://www.eatthis.com/protein-shakes/ to the best and worst premade Protein Shakes available. However, this study is not verified and I am not familiar with the source and its 2 years old. So with that said the information is 2 years old and many more products have come along since then. I also found the most current list for 2018 and again Isopure finishes on top again https://www.bodybuilding.com/store/best-ready-to-drink-proteins.html, no carbs, no sugar, low in sodium, low calories, many flavors and high on Protein, however, I have not tried this product myself, but it looks like I may switch to it.

I thought Isopure was dreadful. I used it pre-op. It leaves the most disgusting film in your mouth, imho. I had 3 bottles left over, brought them to a support meeting to give away - no takers. So, if you decide to try it, I wouldn't stock up all at once!

LOL, and their lies the most common issue amongst us, some of these drinks are absolutely disgusting and some nearly made me puke as well, getting your hands on some samples first is always a good move or take the extra step and contact the company for some. The real surprise is to what chemicals they slip into products today (DATEM (DiAcetyl Tartaric acid Esters of Monoglycerides) and you practically need a degree in science to avoid foods today.

I'm 5 weeks post op, and I still drink 2 Protein Shakes a day to ensure that I get my 80+ grams of Protein a day.

6 months out, have 4 Premier Protein shakes daily (9am-12pm-3pm-6pm) as my major primary meals + have one small veggie lunch (around 1:30pm), which is fully packed with dense fiber. My dietician approves that. Don't care much about the latest "anti-DATEM campaign", as a single fastfood burger has 100 times more crap in it, and we used to eat that sh*t a lot. So all damages are already caused! ))

Right now I'm feeling well, losing weight steadily, also doing daily 40-50 minutes fat-burning cycling at the gym).

The reason I decided to stick with my shakes is that after the sleeve I feel some discomfort with all types of meats (beef, pork, fish, chicken etc), while Beans and legumes are bit too gasy :) With my Protein Shakes I feel fit and full, while still low on calories and high in Protein.

I still have one for breakfast every day! I think it’s fine to have one a day - just not 4 :)

I haven't pooped in a weed and I'd love a 4 pound poo right now lol

Lol, yeah, I've been known to drop 3-ish lbs after a good (and long awaited) poop.

.....or even after a moderate to severe dumping episode. yikes.

I met with my surgeon on Friday.. I've completed all my tests and all my nutrition meetings as well as meeting the weight loss requirements for my insurance. We are officially submitting to insurance for approval and I was given a surgery date of January 16th 2020 (13 days before my birthday!) Fingers crossed all goes through

Ok, now im getting old...my body gets me up at my normal 5am dog walk even when it's the weekend, vacation, and most importantly when I'm sick. So now that I have more energy, my body wants to make sure I suffer even longer during the day when I have a cold! Damn being healthy again! (:D)
