I turned down opportunities to zipline over and over again over the years because most have a 250 lbs weight limit. I was too close to that to be certain I wouldn't be disallowed and have to deal with that embarrassment.

But look what I did this weekend!

Well, I hit the one year mark a few weeks ago.. with that said, I'm officially 7 pounds from goal weight (down 111 pounds from 238 to 127)... So in honor of the one year mark (that I actually FORGOT about when it came- kind of embarrassed to say that) here are some NSV that have made me smile over the past few weeks.

1. I finally got my rings resized. I've been putting this off for as long as I could because I did not want to pay to have them resized multiple times. I wore 4 rings every day before surgery and weeks after they were too big. I resized one at Christmas time as a treat to myself but got the other 3 done last week.

2. I stole a pair of jeans from my little sister (she's 12 years old) who wears 16 girls... well they're too big for me. So naturally, I wandered into GapKids and bought myself another pair... size 12 in girls! WHAT!

3. I went on vacation to the beach and I wore a swimsuit... I haven't worn a swimsuit in 12 years.

4. Finally... I turned 20 right before my one year mark so for my birthday I treated myself to something I've always wanted but was always too ashamed to buy in my size.... a Gucci belt.

These last 7 pounds are very stubborn and have been hanging around for a few weeks now but I hope to have them off by the end of July!

Wow! I've been gone from the forums for a while and didn't realize how much I missed the positivity and support! My NSV is that a neighbor from way down the block stopped me in the street this week to ask me if I'd lost a lot of weight because I "look amazing"! It was nice to hear. Off to read up on everyone's posts and update my stats, etc.

I had a very similar experience last night (Friday 28th June) at the liquor store.

A man with whom I'd worked on a three-month project in 2011 (when I was in the mid 170kg range ... or 380 pounds) saw me for the first time in eight years.

"Oh, f***, I knew the voice but I had to look twice. Sh**, you must have lost about 70kg, pal ... you look amazing," he announced.

I confirmed that I was about 65kg lighter but extremely muscly these days thanks too my pool and gym programs. I chose not too discuss my October 2017 surgery as the store had some people I'd rather not have shared info with.

It made my day when DARREN heaped so much praise on me ... vocally and with his eyes and his massive jaw-drop.

I've had a lot of NSVs lately. I had hip replacement surgery on June 17 and I must admit being in the hospital and being treated like a "normal" weight person was nice, if you know what I mean. It only took one person to help me get out of bed, when the physical therapist came to help me walk I didn't worry that the belt they put around you so they can catch you if you fall would be too small.

Yesterday I had my post op appointment with my orthopedic surgeon. I had to change into the paper shorts they have you wear for X-ray. The tech asked me, "What size do you want? We have S/M or L/XL." I asked her (already knowing the answer) "What size would you suggest?" She said,"Small." They were huge on me! When I went there 11/2 yrs ago for my first appointment at 235 lbs, they just handed me the L/XL and they were embarrassingly snug! At that appointment my doctor suggested I lose wt before he would do the surgery. He wanted me below 200 lbs. He said at that current wt the surgery would be difficult and my recovery would be hard. When I went back to him the next time I weighed 149lbs. He was impressed! The day of surgery I weighed 133! After surgery, he told me, "Your surgery was very easy to do since you are so small!" Recovery, as he predicted, is going great!

I joined the gym recently Nevin following one of those "Couch to 5K" podcasts which aims to get a person literally from being a couch potato to running 5K non-stop.

Yesterday I managed to (lightly) jog 5 minutes without stopping once. I don't even think as a child I ever jogged as long as I did so I am so happy with myself.

I was in the mall the other day (I rarely go because there aren't any plus sized stores there) and on a whim I stopped at a jewelry store. I couldn't recall what size my wedding rings were so I had them sized... size 9. Then I asked the lady to check my actual size... size 7! I'm going to have to start wearing my rings on a chain soon.

One of the events in my life that spurred me to start pursuing surgery happened when my son was not quite 2, and my daughter would have been 4 or so. We had gone to my parents' mountain cabin around 4 hours' drive away, in the winter. We planned to get snow gear at the local Walmart so the kids could play in the snow. I brought the only warm clothing I owned, jeans and a sweatshirt (we live in a desert where it rarely snows, and a sweatshirt is sufficient for the wintriest weather at home). I quickly realized it wouldn't be warm enough to play with my children in the snow, so we spent several hours of our snow-day morning going store-to-store in this fairly small mountain town trying to find a winter jacket that would fit me. I ultimately ended up with a men's XXL skiing-type jacket, which still would barely zip over my hips/butt. We ended up having a great time playing in the snow, but the jacket shopping was truly humiliating.

Anyway - long story short, my NSV is that I fit into an Old Navy Medium women's raincoat last week. This morning I achieved my lowest-ever adult weight. I am so fortunate to have this tool to help me live a longer and more fun-filled life for my kids!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
