Hello everyone! Hows everyone doing?! I was 14 weeks post op yesterday ... hard to believe it's that long ... I sometimes can't believe I went through with it! Currently at a stall hoping to get past it soon! Driving me nuts :-) Here is my progress so far ... January vs Last week!

My VGS & hernia repair were 05/24/17, so I'm hoping I'm close enough to June & can post here. I've been cheating, and yes I know this is self sabotage. I'm seeing a therapist, one that my surgeon's office recommended. She had me keeping a food diary of all I put in my mouth and including if I throw anything up. I'm re-committed to following diet protocols & exercising. Since I'm almost 75 lbs down, it means so much to me to love myself by eating healthy, exercising, etc. Just very grateful to have found this forum which will help me on my journey. I would post photos, but I don't know how! I've got an android cell phone and a PC running on a Microsoft platform. If anyone can walk me through the 'how to post pics' I'd appreciate it. Thank you everyone and have a wonderful day.

Welcome! Yes you can post here! Great job! 75 lbs is awesome! I hear you! I've been eating a lot more carbs than should. And still struggling with Protein and Water. Exercise is getting better . I love my long walks and am bummed when I can't get in my 10k steps.
To post pics I see a plus sign where I type my post and it lets me choose a picture from the app. I'm on an iPhone but it should be the same.

So glad I found you all! I had surgery June 21. I’m down 46 pounds. Everyone seems to be doing well! I’m having a hard time eating enough Protein with each meal. Anyone else?

My dr has me on 3 months of gullbladder meds post op. Did anyone else get those to avoid the removal? No stones or problems before it's just preventative.

Yes. Mine did too. I take it 2x day

Hello everyone 🙄 I was sleeved June 1st and I've never felt better. I'm 1 pound away from my GW & that's exciting but scary being it's only been 6months & I'm still loosing @ half lb per week! My surgeon wanted me in the 150's but I know I would be frail/sick looking (b/c of my height of 5'8")so I stayed focused on my goal POSTOP and I feel super & look gorgeous (if I must say). I'm no longer on meds for high bp & my feet no longer swell after a long day🙄 Congrats to all of us on this "New lease on life"IMG_20171104_182817_409.thumb.jpg.5093f2f1bf41f48fdd136c94ed07bd80.jpg

Congrats! You look beautiful & I'm so happy that you're feeling great. What a tremendous weightloss you've had, and being off the meds is the cherry on top of your journey. Definitely post what you've done to help yourself achieve such great weightloss, good & bad, and any exercises your're doing. It'll help me, that's for sure. Thank you. MT

Hi everybody. Just checking in. I was sleeved June 19 and have lost 50. The rate of loss has slowed, but that's OK. I am learning how to eat all over again and settling into what works for me. I won't say that I never cheat, and there are still a couple of behaviors that are not helping me, but I AM SO GLAD that I did this. I love going "shopping" in my old wardrobe and finding things that fit and are loose, even. I've had to buy pants twice. Bras are a little problematic because everything is so deflated in the chest area. But it's all good. The other night my Dad (who is pushing 90) said that he didn't understand how I could be pushing 62 when I look so much younger than I used to. I feel great and so much more free.

I've lost another few pounds, but am pretty happy that I got a short run in last night w my dogs. Usually I walk them. No soreness today, so will run tonight. Discovered I can't eat a small fish taco, came right back up! After that, I let my stomach settle then had a Protein Shake. I have friends coming to Vegas, where I live, over the Thanksgiving holiday. I said make reservations at the buffets, since I can't eat very much. I'm not cooking since I can't eat the foods. The buffets here are awesome, especially over the holidays, so I'll just get a small plate and eat slowly from items my fiancée's picked out. I already know it'll be seafood & other Proteins, maybe some veggies, and that's it. Celebrating 17 yrs with my fiancée this weekend, and it feels pretty wonderful to say so. Since he's a Veteran, he'll get a lot of free things, including brunches, lunches, dinners, from the community, as well as free Starbucks, free haircut, etc. I'm glad so many organizations recognized our serving military members & Vets, it's the least they can do for these heroes. My son's a Veteran also, and although he lives in another state, I'm sure he's going to benefit from organizations there. Congrats to everyone on this healthy journey, your successes are helping me to learn & stay focused on living a healthy lifestyle. Thank you.

I never swayed from my surgeons instructions thru 8 weeks (that is when I went to regular diet). I start my day with a Premier Protein shake, I eat @ 5 small meals per day that consist of high Protein low /no carbs & I only drink Water adding 100% cranberry juice (for flavor) I have yet to drink any alcohol since pre-op 5/15. I dont eat much red meat & I don't eat fried foods, breads, rice, etc I have an elliptical exercise machine at home because I hate the gym atmosphere & I try to use it at least 2 times per week for an hour (but i have not been consistent). I have purchased some free weights and a jumping rope but I have yet to start using them. My weight loss is mostly from my diet and liquid intake hardly any exercise, & I have minimal excess skin.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
