Drinking before and after eating

Recommended Posts

The Fluid washed the food out of your stomach faster so you don't feel as long. It can also cause certain foods to swell and make you feel bloated or stretch the stomach.

This is my own opinion and I am not a medically qualified person, please remember that

I have never waited 30-60 minutes after having fluids to eat. I wait 5-10 minutes max and then eat but always wait a minimum of an hour after eating to have any more fluids. You will have a lot of differing views from here and you should go by what your team tell you to do. Thats just what I did and it has always worked well for me. However The pyloric valve at the bottom of your stomach stays open for liquids to pass through and so as long as there is no food blocking that passage, it runs right through. food in your stomach gets digested, which turns it into liquids which signals the pyloric valve to open and let things pass through. If you drink something and there is food in your stomach, the pyloric valve could sense that liquid and allow the food to pass through earlier than it would have otherwise.

So in short, drinking Water before eating is NOT going to stretch your sleeve, nor is it going to take any space up in your stomach, it just goes straight through. Drinking fluids with a meal or too early after a meal, should be avoided if you want to feel satisfied for any amount of time. If you do, Its not going to kill you, stretch the sleeve but its one of the things I feel make people sucessful with WLS. Just my 2 cents and each to their own. :D

@@_Kate_ perfectly stated. One other thing that has personally happened to me. I tried to sip on something and the liquid got stuck in my esophagus. I could just feel it slowly trying to seep into my stomach. 30 seconds later, out it came!

Sometimes I sip some Water if I'm eating something really dry but honestly? It's not that big of a deal. It feels like a bigger deal when you are starting out but it will soon become very natural for you. If you drink Water and have a full tummy you are going to feel a lot of discomfort. There's only so much room in there so drinking water makes you feel like this, lol!:

Just not enjoyable now. lol!

let me add to that if you have RNY and you drink with your meals you increase your risk of dumping.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
