Hello Jrsyshoregirl,

I don't have a surgery date yet, but if all goes well I will be banded in November :D.

I just completed my psych visit. The next step is to meet with a surgeon and get a surgery date (I want November) and then the insurance approval process (which I am dreading, even though I meet ALL of their criteria).

Do you have a surgery date yet?

Margie

Its a lil diff for me .. we did the psych evaluation the first visit.. hes affiliated with the surgeon. So i have seen the surgeon plenty of times. No date as of yet, insurance still has to re-approve it. My sister is supposed to have the gastric bypass in Oct and my mom did the bypass 9 yrs ago, so i'm going a little bit of a diff route. I'm nervous yet excited!!:whoo:

Well, it's still not looking like a lot of people are planning on November yet :bored I'm sure the board will pick up soon.

Jrsyshoregrl - your sister is going to have the bypass. That should be interesting once she has her surgery and you have the lap-band to see what things are the same/different etc. Was your mom successful with her surgery?

I am the only one in my family to ever consider WLS. I have a friend who had the bypass a year ago November and he has lost over 100lbs.

Yes it should be. We have the same doc and we were brought up once in this meeting. I really am interested in these boards. Im sick of talkin to my non-WLS friends. It's hard to explain. My mom lost a tonnnn of weight... but regained bout 40 lbs back... she looks amazing. This was when i was 15, so 8 yrs ago she had it done. My friend also got it done a year ago nov... and he lost 100lbs.. DAMN MEN ! lol...

:clap2:

Hi, I am getting banded in November at the Knox Private Hospital in Melbourne Australia. I am going for the physian appointment on Thursday to hopefully have the all clear. Do you know how to set up the weight counter on the bottom of each message?

Where are you getting yours done?

Kind regards

Carol,

Go to Trying To Conceive Ticker and select a weight loss ticker. You will need to create a password and put in your stats, etc. Once you configure your ticker, you will cut and paste the ticker info into your signature line.

If you have any additional questions, feel free to send me a message and I'll try to help.

I don't know why it comes as a "trying to conceive ticker" but it's www . tickerfactor . com I purposely spelled it out with spaces so you could see it.

I go for my initial consultation on September 21st...I am really hoping to get things moving and be scheduled by November.

I know every place is different...but how long did all you tests take after your initial consult?

Hello Jowjow,

I started this process in July. At my hospital, you had to see the nurse and the doctor that runs the program on one day and have an EKG and bloodwork done. Then they would find out if you needed any add'l testing. I did not. I had to wait a month for my appt because I was travelling for work. Then I had the nutritionist visit and the psych visit. I am hoping tomorrow to get my date to see the surgeon. Once I see the surgeon, I will get a surgery date and they will submit my info to the insurance company.

Have you contacted your insurance company yet?

I'm hoping for a Nov surgery date.

Good luck with the process!

Margie

Hi all - As far as my Doctors' office is saying I should be scheduled for the beginning of November. I have been going through th program at my hospital for almost 1 year now. But I use Kaiser Insurance in California and they have a rigerous program to go through that includes psych appoint., nutritionist, head doctor, surgeon (at least 2x's), 4 - 6 "Lifestyle" classes (depending on how much "work" they feel you need before surgery), and a goal to lose a certain amount of weight before surgery. My original goal was to lose about 50-60 lbs before they would do my surgery, but then I asked for a follow up with my surgeon. When I went to see him a couple of weeks ago he saw that I have lost over 30 lbs and went ahead and put through my approval for sugery. The downfall was he is backed up 2-3 months for surgeries. That is why I am suppossed to be in November but will get confirmation of this around October 1st, which is when they open up November for scheduling. All this work and I never thought I would make it, but I have!!! He did mention to me it would be better to maintain if not lose another 10 lbs if possible before surgery. I will try!?!?

Well enough of my ranting - Hope you all are having a wonderful week and I look forward to getting to know all of you and supporting each other.

By the way if anyone has questions on how to do the tickers I can help. Just a hint when you do finish it and you go to copy the tickers code, use the "bb code" and only copy between the brackets not including them. Then you paste them in your signature area, where you complete your permanent signature. Then when you type response on the thread all you do is check the box "Show you Signature" ...Wait I think I am saying this right, I will double check.

Hi everyone! I should have my surgery date next week sometime but they said it will almost for sure be in November. I had a pre-surgical endoscopy yesterday, which he said came out fine. Between now and surgery, I have to see the dietician 3 more times, the exercise phyisiologist once, have blood work, and a letter of surgical clearance from my family dr. I am really excited to get this started....I have waited so long!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
