Will I ever be able to eat Pizza again?

I've heard that some just cannot process the bread in the pizza, Burger and such. Me on the other hand, was able to eat pretty much anything at about 6 months out. I do mean anything, including donuts and Mexican sweet bread and chips and fig newtons and all that unhealthy stuff.

Then I realized and questioned why I was so determined to go back to the foods that made me obese in the first place. So now, even though I know I can eat that stuff I "usually" don't. " USUALLY". :)

There are healthier versions of making pizza on youtube using cauliflower. I am one month out and I am not that advanced in food yet but I am researching other alternatives to the foods I used to eat so that they are healthier.

I would try searching cauliflower pizza on youtube :)

The key seems to be moderation in eating what you crave. You might try it and decide it doesn't taste the same. Deny yourself and it is all you will think about. Your smaller stomach will also decide how much you can eat. Over eat and the consequences will show themselves.

I could have written this same post a few times this past week since surgery. When I got out of surgery I was so excited and then got so sad about pizza since like day 3. It's encouraging that it's not gone forever, but it's up to me to take advantage of this surgery and make good choices. Thanks for posting @@ThickFit504!

I am a huge pizza lover too (like I looovee it lol) but I think everyone's different, you'd have to test out your new stomach to see if you can tolerate it. I myself am waiting to be at least 5-6 months out before I try my first slice. Just to be safe! Hehe

I'm four months out, and last week I made "pizza" with a low-carb tortilla. Topped it with the lowest-sugar pizza sauce I could find, shredded mozzarella, and turkey pepperoni, and baked it at 400 degrees for maybe 8-10 minutes, until the cheese started to brown. It was really tasty, but I was over-ambitious and ate 3/4 of it instead of the 1/2 that I planned on... I felt pretty icky for a couple hours afterward.

I did the same. Low Carb Tortilla with homemade sauce from canned tomatoes I do every fall. Used stevia instead of sugar. Added just a little brown sugar. Turkey Pepperoni with Low Fat Italian cheese Blend. I ate half of it and felt good.

I have also had:

Cheeseburger: Turkey Burger, Cheese, Pickles, Sauteed Peppers and Onions, low sugar ketchup

Italian Sausage and Peppers: Turkey Mild Italian Sausages with Sauteed Peppers and Onions topped with my homemade Pasta sauce and low fat cheese.

Pizza: Confession, I did actually consume a half slice of supreme pizza last weekend. I did not eat the crust. I felt ok afterwords. slightly guilty, but physically fine. Cannot make a habit of this though.

Looking forward to making chicken fried rice using cauliflower instead of rice. Cauliflower Fried Rice

You will find new and creative ways to get similar meals that you used to love, just healthier versions of them. I find it fun to shop at different places and for different things to put together as a healthy alternative to the crap I ate before.

Also, if you are going to have burgers, mustard has no calories so its the best condiment :) After that, mayo would be better than ketchup.< /p>

I am just a little over 2 months out and have had pizza, basically because it was the only thing served, but I didn't even try to touch regular hand tossed crust. I opted for a small thin crust slice and even then basically ended up just eating the toppings.

I was craving pizza so bad at once point that I pulled the cheese and sauce off a slice (my daughter ordered in) and ate that. It helped.

pizza is a trigger food for me so I'm looking for alternatives. I'm going to try the cauliflower crust. My Mom also used to prepare pizzas on flour tortillas for my dad who was a pretty brittle diabetic and couldn't really eat regular pizza. At some point, I'll get small tortillas and make a personal pizza and see how it goes.

I'm trying to be balanced about all of this. Eating that stuff helped get me where I am and I have no interested in going backwards. At the same time, I am well aware that deprivation and feelings of loss can lead to binging and making crap choices. I found myself mourning foods I would "never eat again" and that just isn't going to work for me in the long run. My bariatric group talks about balance and the fact that there will be special occasions that justify a special treat. I just make sure that those times aren't "a day ending in Y" and "I got out of bed today!" :)

Is it possible to eat rice after surgery? I'm Indian and we live off rice so it's been really difficult to give up :(

I remember wondering the same thing & I felt better thinking that I would someday be able to a piece of pizza....not 4 or 5....but 1.

Now that I'm 2 years post op, I wish I had that problem! Unfortunately I can eat pretty much anything I want. I choose not to eat pizza or chips or any oft old vices. Some people can eat a little of that stuff and be fine. I'm not one of those people. I have to keep a tight rein on what I eat.

It's a lifestyle change honestly.

I do feel the same way about not eating the larger than average amount that I was used to but these head-hunger moments are making me feel this way. I've started to change the way I see food and I guess it's a learning curve. I realise I am craving things I didn't before i.e. brussel sprouts! But i've heard that any foods which induce gas should be avoided?

      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
