I often refer others to this thread when they say they are in a stall. Mine started 10 days after surgery. I had my surgery on Jan 26th by Feb 5th I lost 20 pounds. Since that date I have lost only 1 pound. Wondering how much longer I will be in this stall. I thought it very odd it happened 10 days after my 3 procedure surgery. I see the Surgeon for a 1 month follow up on Friday. I sure hope he is happy with the loss thus far.

UPDATE: I think the stall has ended. I lost 2 pounds today. I see the surgeon tomorrow for a 1 month followup. Hopefully he is happy with a 23 pound loss. I know I am thrilled.

I stalled two weeks out from surgery and didn't restart losing till I was about 4 months out. My visit with my nut did it for me. Good idea to visit with your nut.

oh my that's what is going on with me, did u eventually start loosing continously

I did. Lost 50 lbs and then stalled at 175 lbs for a few years. Not really the bands/surgery fault. It's difficult to keep the faith year after year. At some point it just becomes a lifestyle of dieting. But not like the old style of dieting. I'm banded. My surgery suppresses my appetite as long as I stay close to the rules.

Holidays are tough. But, I'm able to get back on the wagon every year and I have less to travel to get down to my fighting weight. Hope this helps.

I'm only speaking for me. Many others get down to goal and manage to stay there.

I am going to argue that two years at a steady weight is maintenance and not a stall in my book.

Inner Surfer Girl I would agree. I felt good where I was and just let the surgery do it's job and it worked well. I had some Fluid removed last summer and it was too much. I gained some weight but I've added more saline and back to losing again.

I'm just two weeks out of surgery and stalled. I have read about it, I expected it, nevertheless it is a concern. I think it's like having your first child and he/she drops his/her pacifier it get washed sterilized and given back. When the third baby does it you wipe it on your jeans and stuff it back in.

I consider myself an intelligent individual but I got so much out of Surfer Girl's post. Who needs to go to therapy, just read this it all makes sense.

This thread should be a sticky, so it is there and easy for future rounds of patients to find.... They are going to need it.

I love your analogy of the pacifier!

Some of the most interesting responses are from newbies when a veteran hands them their sticky pacifier.

I posted on another thread today that I am finding that for me, I am learning that my attitude during stalls is a very important determinant of my success so far. Pre-op, hitting a stall was where all of my best intentions fell apart. Now, I am learning to trust the process.

I am trying sooooooo hard to embrace the stall. Mentally, I know that this happens. I have read every post in this forum but dang it is hard!!! I know I shouldn't weigh myself but I am down to once a week. I am 1 month post op and lost .6 lbs from last week which was .4 lb from the week before.

But it did get me to join and go the the gym today instead of just walking. I started the c25k program today as well.

I hope this breaks soon. I am getting 500 to 550 calories a day. About 65 to 67 G Protein but need to work better on the Water. Carbs are around 22 to 24. Mostly from my Vitamin chews, Protein Drink and cottage cheese.

Embrace,embrace,embrace!!!

Yep these stalls are doing a number on me too emotionally. I have given my scale to my room mate to hide and give to me once a week. I am in my second stall for 3 weeks. I just finished my second month and only lost 5 pounds. I am following my Dr's program and exercising . I did schedule a visit to the Psych for Wed to see if she can help me deal better with the emotional aspects of these stalls so I don't get so upset when I see no loss.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
