What Are Your Hobbies?

Recommended Posts

I have gone target shooting just 3 times in my whole life. First time was a gun safety class, second time was with a "friend" and it wasnt very fun about a year ago. I went just recently and had a good time and was not a bad shot. We were at a quarry and bought cheap soda by the can. It was fun to see them explode - was shooting a revolver that had 38s and a couple of 357 bullets - happened to hit the root beer with the big bullet and it was quite spectacular. It was fun, and the people there cheered me on since i was a beginner but doing pretty well.

I might want to explore that more as a hobby - it is nice to have a good variety of things to do...

I love to paint, draw and do crafts. I like to try a little bit of everything! Here are a few things from this past year:

A mixed media piece using crayola crayons, I think it looks like a dragon!

Some of my polymer clay fairies and houses.

My handpainted Christmas ornaments

Different bracelets I have made

My logo... a fluffy fairy - me- for Unique Designs by Fairee :D

A mermaid made from polymer clay and real shells

Face painting at the Buddy Walk for Down Syndrome

A pastel drawing of my Dad, who passed this past Feb.

If you want to see any other designs, visit my Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/fairee529

I haven't done too much lately. I also love to read and swim

As of this Friday I am officially retired. I love to China Paint but because of my busy schedule I have not been able to do so for a long time. Looking forward to get to paint once again. I am still fighting the urge of food for comfort. I sit behind a desk all day and cannot get up unless someone relieves me...now that I can move around and not be stuck behind a desk...I am hoping to conquer my battle with food.< /p>

Texaslady52, congratulations on your retirement ! Woo hoo !! Any other interests besides china painting ? Don't be shy about looking into hobbies that you normally wouldn't give a second look to. 10 years ago hubby took me golfing. Once, because it was booorrriiinnngggg !!!! Yawn. Snooze.......... so he just went without me. 6 weeks ago, while on vacation, we decided to try it again. A light bulb went on, im officially addicted, and guess what were doing tonight ?? So glad I tried something "different ! " I hope you find some healthy, fun hobbies too ! Good luck !!

Great topic for discussion as this was on my mind last weekend. I'd love to get some ideas!

I so enjoy cooking and entertaining. Ugh. I was frustrated last weekend as I realized I needed to focus my efforts elsewhere. I paint furniture and home furnishings and thought I'll just continue enjoying that. I am finding new projects to decorate/paint around my home for the days ahead!

(I am new and have no idea how to attach a pic or two for y'all. Sorry.)

Absolutely gorgeous animal.

I've always been a fan of the breed, but have always had smaller dogs. I'm hoping that may change as my new energy level will have me wanting to walk a dog every day.

I have always been a craftster and shall continue to do so.

I make 3 dimension beaded items like musical boxes, clocks, lamps, purses, tissue boxes etc

Lately I have taken up coloring and making sequin art.

Once a week I play Michigan Rummy with the Ladies in the development I live in.

Come Monday I will be going back to the Gym with a friend.

I ride my tricycle and hope this summer to be able to go swimming.

I like keeping my brain and hands busy.

Tried to put a photo up of my crafts table but don't think it is showing correctly.

I just pulled out my crocheting and knitting. I decided to attempt to knit scarves for all the nieces and nephews. I'm not too sure they will be thrilled but it is giving me a goal to work toward.

I am not a gun fan. I've been target shooting with a hand-gun once, and used to shoot rifles at summer camp. I was never very good at it and didn't really like it.

What I loved was archery. This post reminded me that my brother-in-law is a bow hunter. I wouldn't mind trying some target shooting with a bow in the near future. The only way I hunt is with a camera.

RC planes, cars, etc. I am addicted to making pretty much anything. If I had the means I would have a forge, a woodworking shop, a computer shop, a garage, a painting booth, a writing studio.

I have the attention span of a gnat on crank.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
