sleeve reset was successful

Recommended Posts

Thank you so much for sharing! I too am planning to "reset" my sleeve but I can't get past my hunger! It's amazing to me how that feeling of satiety quickly went away after 8 months of being sleeved! Which is more successful? The 5day pouch test or the 5:2 reset?

@@kgunchic ... just wanted you to know that in 5 days I'll hit my first surgiversary. My sleeve still fills up and also signals satiety.

Are you still eating lots of Protein and eating Protein first at all meals?

Or have your eating patterns changed?

If the latter ^^^, I'd urge you to give protein a chance again.

At the times when I've gone carb-heavy at mealtimes, at the end of the meal I'm full, but I'm not satisfied.

I'm still learning how to do this thing right. Not perfect. But right. :)

@wifey I'm hungry all the time too. I'm 24 months out and after being programmed for the last couple of years to each 4-5 times a day. I feel like eating is all I do! I started prepping my food and freezing pre-portioned out so I can stick to better choices. I also have been upping my fluids in lieu of food.< /p>

Are those of you who feel hungry taking anti acid medications such as Prilosec or Nexium? Acid in our sleeved stomachs mimics hunger. I am 18 mos out and still take Prilosec everyday. If I don't, I feel constant "hunger."

I take zantac for the same reason. I seem to have lots of burning or aching like hunger but it's reflux. Pril9sec doesn't work for me like the zantac.

I always think about getting back on a PPI but haven't yet. I think a lot of my problem is head hunger.

How are Prilosec and Zantac different? I have a script for generic Prilosec, but I forget to take it often because it interferes with my other meds (levothyroxine). Does anyone take their PPI before going to bed? I've done this a few times to help with that acidic feeling in my stomach I get sometimes in the morning.

I've heard others find relief with Diet Ginger Ale. I know, we aren't suppose to have carbonated drinks. However, now that I am 10 months post op, I find that my stomach is not nearly as "touchy" as it use to be. I've noticed that I can eat larger quantities if I really wanted to as well. However, I have yet to eat any breads, grains, rice, potatoes, Pasta, junk food, or basically anything with starch. I have no idea how my stomach would react and I hope I'll never find out one way or the other. The longer I stay away from it the less I crave it.

The closer I get to that one year mark, the more I realize that all that talk about the "honeymoon phase" is actually true. It's not as easy as it use to be and I have to rely more on making smart food choices and sticking to the plan no matter what. When your restriction isn't what it use to be, then all you can do is eat like a skinny person to help maintain your goal weight.

Although I've never done the sleeve reset, I do believe it works. I had a severe sinus infection that caused stomach upset because of all the draining of mucus. My intake for a week was mostly liquids. Once I felt better, I noticed much better restriction.

Zantac is an H2 blocker. Blocks secretion of acid. Prilosec is a proton pump inhibitor. It stops the production. If you have occasional gastric burn zantac is recommended but if you have Gerd Prilosec is recommended. I would say ask your doctor about it. Zantac gives relief faster than Prilosec because of how they work. However Prilosec stays in your system longer.

Will someone please explain the reset? What exactly do we do?

Haven't tried it myself, but I believe this is what people are referring to when they talk about the pouch/sleeve reset.

That is awesome! Congrats! That is also the beauty of the sleeve. It's always there, it's just all in how we use it. Good job!

I am so happy to have found this thread and group. I am 2 1/2 years out and had been so successful. Although I had not reached goal I was at a healthy and happy weight. Slowly but surely old habits started to creep back in. Grazing all day. Eating too many carbs (mostly sweets). The result is that I have gained back 33 pounds and am struggling to keep off the 50 other pounds I had lost. The fact that I have kept to my exercise routine is probably the only thing that has saved me from complete failure. I am starting the 5 day pouch test today and the other thing is I have joined the Halloween challenge in another forum which I think will also help me with accountability. Please lets keep encouraging each other and get back control of our sleeves. Lets remember how good it felt to wake up each morning knowing that we could fit into anything hanging in our closets (unless it was too big of course).

Glad I have started back with checking in with bariatric pal. Thank you so much to the person who started this thread and to all participating.

Ok so I started the 5 day pouch test yesterday. Surprisingly it wasn't that hard in terms of hunger but have had a headache this morning which I think is a withdrawal symptom from all of the sugar. That's ok with me. I ate or more accurately drank 4 cups of Soup yesterday which added up to a lot of carbs for the day (I had Tomato Soup and split pea). Ironically I got a letter in the mail from my bariatric surgeon that its time to schedule an appointment. This I took as a sign that its time to conquer this weight gain. I would dread to go back a failure. Going for a nice long walk now. Will check back again soon.

I have to share this. I finished 5 day pouch test today and weighed in at a 6.4 pound loss. This proves to me that diet is everything in weight loss. I regained 33 pounds while vigorously exercising 5 days per week. This does not mean I will stop my exercise routing for health, toning and help with loss but diet is the real key. I am going to seriously consider the 5:2 diet to help with get the rest of the weight off and help maintain. Another plus has been a feeling of power over constant carb craving and the power of Portion Control. Happy to be back on this site.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
