How many times a week or month do you weigh yourself?

I gotta scale before surgery…I'm 9 days out of surgery and I'm having a hard time not weighing myself everyday. I've been trying to stop because a lot of the times it has bummed me out because my weight has been fluctuating. So I was wondering should it be a once a week thing? or stop worrying about the scales for awhile? Ive been walking a at least a mile a day and following my diet plan.

im about 4 months out, i weigh almost everyday, or at least every 3 days. when i know i'm retaining Water or having my period i'll skip a day or two. i know a lot of people think its bad to weigh that much. but i can be anal about stuff and if i didn't do it everyday it would be ALL i thought about, LOL. so i just do it to get it over with.

I only weigh myself once a month. Otherwise I drive myself crazy and start living for the scale. This is about health for me. I'd rather focus on eating properly and exercise. Some people weigh daily and don''t get upset. Some people do once a week. For newly sleeved people I would say wait at least 2 weeks or whenever your first post-op appointment is. There are too many factors that may impact that early weight. You could be retaining fluids from the IV, Your belly could be swollen from surgery. You could be constipated.

Whatever your routine becomes do not let the scale become the be all, end all. Take your measurements (neck, boob, waist & hips). When you hit that 3 week stall seeing the difference in the measurements may help you better see your progress. When you do weight yourself try to do it at the same time of day and in the same location every time.

Every day. But then I can track a pattern and notice if I'm slacking off, or regaining. I don't actually record said weigh in down. Just mentally, I make a note of it. But if it's making you cray, put the scale away.

The scale never made me crazy even in my fattest days. It's my way of reminding myself to stay on track. When I don't weigh often, I gain. When I avoid the scale, it's because I am eating things I shouldn't and I don't want to see the results of my behavior.

That's just me. It's how I'm wired.

Now, I am gleeful every time I step on. I don't care if I am up a pound or three at the end of the day. I don't care if Monday shows a five pound increase from Friday. I know my body, I know my cycle and I know real gain vs. a number on the scale. I love seeing my new weight.

If you are not like me, follow the advice above. It's good advice.

Personally, the fit of my jeans is much more telling than the electronic scale. It's what the rest of the world sees, right?

I weigh daily -- after arising, peeing, and stripping naked (including my wedding ring). I've done this most of my life. It keeps me honest.

However, there are days, when I'm traveling or when I wake up at 1:00 am, that I don't weigh. But those are pretty much the only exceptions.

However, I think everyone should weigh when it makes sense for them. I know people who've had WLS who weigh only when they go to the doctor's office, and that works for them. But it wouldn't work for me.

In the beginning I was weighing once a week, at the same time. But at my 2 1/2 week check up my doc wanted me to weigh daily and record it. So that is what I started doing, and I have kept doing. When I went for my 2 month check up I asked if I should keep doing this and my NP said only if I didn't let it rule me or dictate how I felt.

I have continued to weigh daily and log it. I know this is not for everyone but it keeps me on track. I also take measurements monthly so I can tell that way too. I have been losing pretty consistently so far so I am happy with that. We also take monthly pics in the same outfit every month so I can visual see my progression. My daughter bought me a nice book for Christmas so I can start putting them together.

I weigh first thing in the morning upon waking up, after going to the bathroom. That is the weight I record. I do not get back on the scale at a later time in the day. Monday mornings I record my weekly weight since that was the day of the week I had my surgery on.

You have to do what is right for you. But one thing I will say is not to get on throughout the day, DO NOT!! Your weight will fluctuate so much during the course of a day. Make sure you are using other ways to see your progress, there is more to life than a number on a scale!!

Like @@LipstickLady and @@VSGAnn2014, I weigh every day, first thing in the morning after I pee, (and I write it down), unless I know I've had something I shouldn't have (like Lay's [or Golden Flake 'Hot'] potato chips--both, my nemesis). Then I won't write it down..but if I've been 'off program' a few days in a row, I will write it down and make 'sidebar' comments to myself. Not as a punishment, but a nudge; and also to look back at my overall progress.

You will have periodic fluctuations, so just do what works for you and doesn't stress you out. The wls is to help free you, not burden you, or be stressful. If you can weigh, even see a slight gain and just say "ok, I ate... yesterday' and not stress, good. If you're the type to freak out and guilt trip yourself, weigh less often.

I weigh myself almost every day, but I only document my weight once a week (on Mondays). I keep that in a spreadsheet and have a graph that shows me the downward trend of my weight. I don't let day-to-day fluctuations bother me.

I weigh daily. I have every single day for the 14 months. For me, the only time I have not weighed myself daily was when I was at my highest weight because I felt like it didn't matter any way. Weighing myself daily doesn't make me crazy or dictate whether I will love myself or hate myself that day. It does keep me accountable though. For me, when I put the scale away, I am more tempted to go off plan because I am not seeing the results of the actions. Not sure if that makes sense, but it keeps me honest.

      April Surgery
      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

      Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs. 
      I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm. 
      I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order. 
      My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

      Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
      Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
      A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.

      I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
      Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
