January Sleevers ❄️

Recommended Posts

The acid blockers are more important than just keeping away the heartburn. We have a greatly increased Rick of developing all ulcers that can actually destroy the suture lines and return us to the hospital with a leak. Take your darn acid blockers!

I had my sleeve done on the 20th and I'm doing great. Went to the gym today for the first time for a more vigorous workout and I've been walking at least 10,000 steps every day since day three. I'm having no real issues yet, I'm keeping food and Water in check, no pain and I'm losing weight. This has been thrilling. And of this morning I've lost 20lbs in my 13 days post op.

I hope everyone else here who is having issues figures out how to work with their new body. But remember, this is a long term aid, not a quick fix solution. If it takes you a month longer to eat or a few gad problems, it won't matter at all in the end as long as these issues are temporary. Best of luck everyone!

I was on a TOM stall then dropped 5 lbs in 4 days once school started. I get my steps just walking to and fro on campus.

I'm at three weeks and not having a stall but it has not been as great of a weight loss as it had been before but I'm not going to complain at all. i'll take the 1-2 lbs. Its a win win for me.

I'm at three weeks and I can't break out of the 230's and it's irritating my nerves! I need to up my game on working out. I am hoping it kicks back into gear next week! I'm going back to work on Monday so things are going to be a little different!

Same here. Sleeved 1/19. Went to the gym for the first time today to see if that allows my body to give up the fluids I've been drinking that it sea to be holding onto for dear life. Walked and rode the stationary. We'll see.

2lbs is a win but wish it were 5 or something. Keeping the faith.

Chew chew chew chew....

I seriously tried to kill myself unintentionally. Yuck. Thought I'd get in some quick Protein and "gobbled" down some crab meat like prior to surgery. Obviously didn't chew chew chew and i had this sudden pain in lower chest. Drink didn't help. Felt like food was stuck. I just knew it needed to come back up to get unstuck. Awful feeling. Not ready for non mushy food yet. Baby steps baby steps.

Live n learn.

I'm 3 1/2 weeks out. No stall yet but consistent days between loss. Ok by me! Just want to see the scale moving down. I'm struggling more now, stomach is tiny and hates anything non liquid. My Protein Shakes are gagging the life outta me. This has been a tough week! I'm not giving up - keep trying until something works but I'm nowhere near my Protein goals and it's frustrating!! Waiting to hear back from my NUT...

I hear you. Three weeks out here and my sleeve is unhappy with anything that's not either liquid or cheese. Although I did some refried Beans tonight that seemed to go down and stay down, so maybe I'm branching out? :) Here's hoping we're both able to get something else in soon!

Me too!!!

3 weeks out today and the list of what I can eat can be listed on one hand.

It is impossible to get the Protein in, fluids a real struggle. Nurse says not to worry just keep the liquids going. I vomited just brushing my teeth, even a Protein Drink came right back up (maybe too big of swallow.) So I"m keeping it pretty simple and will introduce new foods one at a time, and only one little bite at a time.

So this is what they told me-if i'm vomiting it is one of 3 things

1-ate too fast

2-ate too much

3-introduced a new food before new stomach was ready.

Not sure where brushing teeth comes in but I get nauseous very easily.

Yea, two bites of puree anything + chewed 30x and I'm uncomfortable for an hour or two. Protein Shakes make me so nauseated! I literally cried through half of one the other day. Feels like extreme morning sickness. ( NOT prego, to clarify.) I'll be happy when this part gets better. Surgery was a breeze compared to this.

How are everyone's incisions looking?? Mine are healing nicely!

@@mduffield You know I started making my own Protein Shakes because the store bought ones were causing some really bad nausea. You should look into that a lil to help ease the disgusting taste. My incisions are looking pretty good as well. spoke to my doctor today and I started using mederma on mine to lessen the scars. I will have enough scars when I'm all said and done with my weight loss journey. I can just about handle anything to eat. most Soups but it had some chunks I just use my nutri bullet blender for a sec or two to mush them down. I was also wondering if anyone was having a problem drinking anything warm? I can't drink a single thing if it is warm. Kinda bothers me cause I can't have any hot teas only cold iced liquids. Good luck!

Just wanted to give everyone a little update. I had my 2 weeks post-op visit earlier today and have been okay'd to move onto pureed stage. I am down a total of 21 lbs since surgery, but of course most of this (20lbs) was from my first week. The scale this past week has not been my friend, LOL! Tried the ricotta bake tonight and it was AMAZING! I usually get all of my fluids in...finally made my 60 gram Protein goal like 2 days ago, although it looks like this may be trickier now that I have to plan actual foods. I don't eat tuna...and am not a big fan of eggs, does anyone have any suggestions for what I can eat now that has some protein and won't taste so horrible pureed? Most of you are ahead of me and you all seem to be doing wonderful :)

I'm on soft foods now. I only weigh myself once a week so I'm in the dark during the week. Was at 20 lbs lost post op on Sat. Caught a cold and the coughing led to puking so I've been desperate not to cough. Had some Subway chicken noodle Soup. They have it to me for free cause it was bottom of the bin. Good thing cause I could only take 4 bites before I didn't want anymore. Chewed gum for my 30 min after so I didn't drink. Extra digestive juices should be a good thing. I've got zero appetite and no desire for taste. Hopefully it's just the cold.

For scars including stretch marks, the silicone strips work magic. I'm also planning on dermarolling them away when they are ready.

Monday was one month since surgery and I am down 42 lbs. It's starting to slow. For those of you who are having an issue with Protein Drinks have you tried them with Almond Milk? I can't do regular milk right now without some nausea setting in. Almond milk is great. A couple times a week I add 1 TBS Peanut Butter for added Protein as I don't think I am getting it all in. Also, I am so thirsty all of the time...I just want to gulp down a big glass of ice cold Water. :) I was able to wear a dress to work today that I have never been able to fit into and that made me feel so awesome. It is baby steps!! Deep water aerobics I think are going to be a tremendous help too not to stall.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
