January Sleevers ❄️

Recommended Posts

I think it's important to remember the shock our bodies are experiencing. It'll all calm down soon, we will lose and feel good! I've had several moments in the last day or two of feeling frustrated with how difficult it can be to get enough Water and Protein in. My sleeve is just tiny! Then I look in the mirror and don't miss one OUNCE of the 35lbs I've lost since December. It's worth it. I've gotten off the scale and it's better emotionally to see loss ( even if it's just a lb or 2.) once a week, than the fluctuations constantly.

Your all doing great! Keep up the good work ;)

I think some of us just need some reassurance that the weight WILL come off.

Yes, agree with @downsizingdiva. Had no success with the band and worried I'll be the sleeve exception and not lose. Its really slow going. I know its early. Probably I have too much time on my hands as I'm recuperating and expending brain power on useless (hopefully needless) worries.

This forum is so helpful, seeing what others have gone thru or are going thru now.

Question?? Last night I started having a lot of pain on my left side where my incisions are at and now it feels swollen and I can't really move, is the part of the healing process?

@@Swampdoggie I think your weight loss is great. Would you have lost so much weight without the sleeve? I know people expect to drop 50lbs in a month or something but it took probably years to put the weight on, Celebrate the current changes and enjoy the process. It is hard and it will be slow but I look at it this was I would of never loss 22lbs in a month if I did not have the surgery so what is there is complain about. Give your body and yourself time to heal and learn how to work your sleeve. GOOD luck!

Well I've been counting from day Istarted the pre op liquid only. Since surgery itself the loss is three pounds. But yes, you are right and certainly the feeling is different.

I guess I can only suggest talking to your surgeon. Are you in taking the proper about of Protein? I can not nearly take in so much protein yet cause the shakes are so thick but they say that you can sabotage your own weight loss is you don't get in half of the requires amount. How about Water or fluids are you taking enough of that? Are you on full liquids or pureed foods because you might not be able to eat much but I see a lot of people are having to much salt which can retain if water intake in not proper. Just talk to your surgeon or nutritionist get suggestions. Good luck and be strong it will come off maybe not today but soon enough!

i know the slow losing thing sucks and can be VERY frustrating but one thing I can tell you is TAKE YOUR MEASUREMENTS!!! I had surgery on 1/13 and have only dropped 6 lbs from my DOS weight but I have dropped 1 pants size!!!!!!!!! Biologically our bodies don't want us to lose weight and put forth all measures to prevent it!! I bodies are wired for us to eat and store Vitamins, fat, and nutrients protecting us from impending famine. However, our bodies haven't recieved the message that we have food options at every neighborhood corner and the likelihood of famine is nill. But, our body is an amazing machine and will continue to protect us even though we want it to let its guard down LOL!! The measurements say it all! The scale will catch up later! Just keep doing what your doing and it will all work out! It has to.....we are eating a 1/8 of what we use to! .

I just wanted to share some of my anti heartburn tricks for quick relief. I've been getting it bad the past couple of days because I'm a bad patient and haven't been taking my acid blockers.

Chewing gum: makes you salivate more which cuts down on the acid buildup. Also aids digestion.

Water with lemon juice: lowers the level of acidity in the stomach. Also aids digestion.

Water w/ a tbsp of baking soda: immediate relief. Keep drinking til you start burping. It's a base. Add it to your acid and acid is neutralized; creates gas as a byproduct.

I was sleeved on the 22. The one night planned hospital stay turned into 3 nights. It was rough. My stomach was ok, it was the hiatal hernia that has given me nothing but grief after they "fixed" it.

I have taken norco for a week, but I will stop now. I have lost nothing from last week to this week. Wondering if I'm eating too much. I'm walking a bit, but nothing intense.

My surgery was Friday the 30th, went home Sat evening. Tried sugar free pudding to mix my meds with but that made ms nasues. Getting in half my Protein today, seems easier today to drink than it has been. Really an emotional thing with the hunger but not really wanting it but then thinking you do then no then yes. Never realized how many commercials there are on food until now. Good luck everyone

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
