January Sleevers ❄️

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved 1/14/15 if anyone would like to keep in touch email me: Briconnect@gmail.com com

I was a big foodie so when it comes to what to eat I really take charge lol hate to be deprived love being satisfied and love looking good. I would love to share ideas HMU! BRI

Also I hear Unflavored Isopure Protein powder is the best if you don't like or are sick of all the choc, vanilla n strawberry whey's. Good luck hope this helps!

Go to pinrest.com search Protein shakes the recipes look so good... I'm picking up some "cookie butter" from trader joes later to add to a new Protein recipe.

I had to be on liquids 2 weeks before surgery, Clear Liquids while in the hospital, regular liquids for 2 weeks, pureed for 2 weeks, soft food for 2 weeks then finally regular food. I am so sick of Protein Shakes, even trying to mask the taste. But tomorrow I start pureed foods, I can't wait.

I'm down 20 lbs since before my pre-op diet. I think I may be at a stand still, but I haven't started exercising yet. I hope to next week. So hopefully I will be able to get back on the losing track.

Does anyone feel a tightness in the chest if they drink too fast? I do and want to know if that is normal. Is that the restriction everyone talks about?

Got my sleeve yesterday morning and home resting today. The doc was pleased with my liver shrinkage and said it took him just under an hour. Other than some pain and soreness on my 6 incision sites, I feel pretty good! I was fortunate not to have any nausea. So happy to now be post-op!!

@@Happy2BMe1 So your doctor allowed you to be on complete solids instantly and did not have to go through a transition of Clear Liquids? I noticed that I'm the only one with the clear liquids. I did too look on pinterst for Protein Shakes since I have to be on complete solids for 15 days as well. I do not even start the pureed phase until Feb 23rd which I find a lil difficult and hard but what can I do. I lost 86% of my stomach and my sleeve is crazy small. Well good luck on your journey and congrats on the weight loss.

I was on preop liquid diet for 12 days and then for 2 days after the surgery. I was able to have creamy Soups, creamy yogurt, and unsweetened applesauce and 1 Protein Shake per day. I thought that was fast I have not really been able to eat that stuff well, my stomach feels full and like its stretching out with just Water. Tomorrow is my 1 week postop appointment and if my doctor clears me I can have soft foods eggs, refried Beans and cottage cheese. I drank to much Protein shake this morning and have felt bloated on left side I can't get comfortable. I am still learning on what I can do and not do.

Did anyone else get internal stitching with their procedure? It makes one of your incisions look like a dimple. I did and it's the only thing I'm struggling with after surgery. A lot of pain and discomfort from time to time.

Yep. I was sleeved on Monday the 19th. Largest incision is above my belly button. and it was stiched on the inside very swollen and I have a dimple as well. Looks very strange. I have a binder around my midsection that has helped alot!

Thanks a lot for the responses on my incision question but now I have another question! (I know, I'm annoying) but I was wondering how much Water and Protein do you guys have daily? And if you're on a soft/purée diet, how many times do you eat?

I had my two-day post-op clear liquid diet, a one week liquid diet, and my post-op visit with doctor today (sleeved 1/14) said I was good to go on puréed foods! He said as long as I can blend it down and make sure I take VERY small bites, I can try my luck! Obviously every doctor gives different post-op diet instructions and I'm sure they want you to be safe than sorry.

Well everyone, I am home now...sore, but alright. I was feeling really good @ 6pm on the very first day, and I was walking and all, then it quickly changed. All of a sudden I was in pain and horribly nauseous. I vomited a total of 3 times between midnight and 8am. Apparently they thought maybe at first I was just sensitive to meds, then they thought morphine was the culprit, so they gave me delotid(sp?) and as soon as that hit my veins I was sick again. They finally pulled me off all narcotics, and gave me toradol(?), which is a strong iv version of ibuprofen, and phenergen(sp?) for the nausea and that finally worked! I wasn't advanced to liquids until 8pm on day two, and that was just sips of Water. This morning I started clear liquids and it's been well tolerated. I don't have much pain, just very sore and the occasional gas pressure. They said I could advance to full liquids, but I think I'm going to take it easy for a couple of days. I am very happy to be home tonight and in my own comfy bed. :)

@@Gendy Yes if I take too big of a sip i get that tightness. It is hard for me to remember to sip and not drink.

I get it too. I wiggle it out. My bf thinks it's funny. To sip, I take a normal amount of liquid and hold it in my mouth. Then I swallow a little at a time. Also, I find using a straw helps. Suck enough to get the liquid to your mouth and release.

Can you use a straw? I was sleeved by Dr. Ortiz and he and his dietician told me not to use a straw as the air will stretch the stomach. I believe it was also in my paperwork. I was sooooo thinking a straw would be so much better but it was a no no!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
