I just came to an important realization. I have to start wearing my best clothes right away because they are going to stop fitting very soon. You know how you settle for the comfortable stuff and kind of save your nicer clothing for special occasions. Time to go grocery shopping in the "good stuff." Yep, stylish clothes to shop at Walmart and Lowes. Watch out housewives of Loudoun County, here I come. Lol.

Hi everyone! I've been MIA for a while. Lots going on! I'm doing fine. At 2 weeks out I had lost 18 lbs. Feeling pretty good too. Getting in all my Protein, Vitamins, Water, etc. Knee problems have kept me from walking but I think I may have that figured out. If not, another surgery is in my future! Ick! I haven't been able to keep up with posts but I'm at the hospital with my daughter right now so I may have some time to catch up. I go back to work part time this Wednesday. Really looking forward to it too! I'm glad I like my job. :)

I hope everyone is doing well! Have a happy Monday!

I just mashed up some flounder and squash. I had a few bites and then had the most intense chest pain that lasted about 10 minutes. This is the third time I have had this happen when I try puréed foods. Anyone else experiencing this pain when eating?

I just officially changed to pureed today. I don't have any experience with the chest pain, but could you have eaten to fast or too much?

Last night I decided to try a tiny bit of salmon mixed with cauliflower mash (like mashed potatoes) and I had no issues. This morning I had some scrambled egg whites with a little yogurt dip, and it went down fine, but 20 minutes later I had diarrhea (sorry). My stomach felt a little crampy for awhile after that, but otherwise I'm fine. I don't necessarily consider this to be dumping, but not sure. I wonder if it's normal for foods to go right through you when you first start introducing them. It's hard not knowing what's going on in there, isn't it? Everything is a mystery!

We had a family dinner yesterday and I had about 2 ounces of my infamous salmon and some soft au gratin potatoes. It took 2 hours I eat with breaks. Had to go out side a couple of time because I get too hot after I eat sometimes. Couple hours later tried to get in some chicken and mashed potatoes and I puked my guts out. You never know what food may work for you. But today j find out I like an orange Julius smoothie with the Protein boost and for Breakfast I had a dunkin donut angus egg cheese wrap with no difficulties besides it taking 2 hours to finish.

How is everyone getting their liquids in? How much can you comfortably drink in an hour? How much is safe to drink in an hour? I'm currently only getting ~35 ounces. HELP??

I've been lucky enough to not have any issues getting my liquids in since surgery. I try to have 8-10 oz of Protein Drink when I first get up, then breakfast an hour or so later. I also have a bottled Water and Protein drink in between lunch and also dinner. I can't gulp, by any means, but I drink a bottled Water in a half hour or so. From what I'm reading and learning, it's a struggle for many who can't get their liquids in.

I also switched to pureed foods today, and I'm incredibly full - almost nauseating. I was excited to add some food, but it's kind of grossing me out! ???? Hoping that doesn't impact my Fluid intake. Good luck!

Has anyone been tracking their measurements? I found I lost 9&1/2 so far! Explains the smaller size pants. I've been walking almost every day. This week I'm adding 2lb weights for my arms and steps to work on the legs. Trying to reduce the sagging skin.

I have measured twice since Oct 1st. I've lost over 20 inches! But I measure about 10 different places, so it's kind of spread out. :-)

Saw the doctor today, down 31 lbs. Moving from pureed foods to actual chicken and fish, toasted bread and a few other textures I've been missing. Next week is veggies!

Whoohoo!!! Awesome job!!!

I can't wait for toasted bread!!

Down about 25lbs since surgery (40 total) and still on purees for another week. I've definitely tried a few "advanced" foods and had no problems as long as I go slow and don't overdo it.

Pretty excited that the doc has cleared me to exercise, I've done a couple deep Water aerobics classes with my MIL that were fun and surprisingly intense. Abs (or the spot in fat were my abs are hiding) are still sore from Saturday!

Also- my physical hunger has definitely come back but only in the sense that I get super cranky if I haven't eaten.

Anyone else craving chocolate?? If so I have the perfect snack that my pouch and I both LOVE. 2-4 tbsp of Just Great Stuff Organic powdered Peanut Butter (regular and chocolate flavor), with a pinch of salt and Splenda, mixed with enough Water to make it the right consistency. It tastes like Nutella!!!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
