August post op sleevers: Check in

Recommended Posts

Seems like I should have rambled over to this topic much sooner. Sleeved 8/13, HW:225, 209 day of surgery, CW: 170.

My scale hates me and I miss pastries.

Ahhh yup, that's pretty much it lol.

My scale hates me too.... and the scales here at work... shudder to think how much the scale in the doctor's office dispises me! But today I pulled out an old pair of panties from the drawer and OMG! They were too big! I mean BAGGY BIG!..... so I guess some of the gut fat is going away. :D

I have PCOS as well.

I'm going through the same thing getting a hysterectomy in February. I have three kids so I'm good with it. It's better than having fibroid surgery every few years.

My three month follow-up appointment was yesterday. Aside from some heartburn when I forget to take my Prilosec, everything looks good.

I have the same question about Biotin. Not sure if anyone else has experienced this but both of my toenails on my big toes have separated from the nail bed. I had to see a podiatrist yesterday. He said it wasn't fungal and said it was probably because of the surgery and suggested I take Biotin. I did call my surgeon and am waiting for the office to call me back. I really hope my hair doesn't start to fall out too :(

On a good note, I hit 40lbs over the weekend!! Very excited for that. Can't wait to see 50 and 60 lbs. less.

That's awesome Becky J. I was thinking about the Biotin as well. Not having problems but I always had a problem with my crown area. Please share what you find out. Thx

You know what one of the best things about this whole surgery business is so far? Knowing the scale isn't going to go back up. Sure, it may waver or fluctuate a couple pounds, esp. right before/during Shark Week, but when I check a milestone, like "below 210" or whatever, I know it's going to stay that way. It's absolutely exhilirating and nothing like what it used to be stepping on the scale.< /p>

JusTSomeGirl, I agree. This surgery is truly a blessing for us all. We have to continue to stick to our pk plan and it will continue to be downhill (scale wise) from here. It's unbelievable to me. Milestones like yours are awesome. I can't wait to reach that goal, God Willing.

later losers!

I haven't commented in quite some time, but i enjoy everyone's comments about successess and set backs. I realize that I have the same problems as y'all and i'm not alone. The scale isn't moving to fast but I am to blame for that. I'm eating well but not exercising like I should. Hence the problem! I still have the fear of going to the gym and being judged and/or pitied. On a good note, I went shopping this weekend and went down 2+ sizes. from a very tight 24 to an 18. Yeah! Like so many of y'all, my upper stomach is trying to stick around longer than I want it to! So i say to everyone, continue on! Everyone has been a blessing and comfort, Thank you!

Officially down 55 this week on the Dr'S scale! Had a consult for colon resection for the diverticulitis, going to go forward with this as soon as we can.

Also had a NSV yesterday! DH is taking me on a cruise so I don't have to cook for thanksgiving. Panicked about packing so started closet shopping last night. Don't know what I was worried about, there was plenty of clothes in the very far corners that according to DH looked great. Even packed two dresses for formal nights, size 14!

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
