August post op sleevers: Check in

Recommended Posts

I'm stuck too! 20 lbs the first week, then nothing for almost two! Is this normal? How long should it last? I'm so discouraged!!!

So I was sleeved on 9/15. I lost 12 lbs the first week and now nothing!! So annoyed. How long did this last for you. I am trying hard not to panic.

Motherof5 no it's not

I actually don't think I'm eating enough.. I have no appetite.. And when I do eat it's four bites and I'm through... Been relying on Protein shakes... For nourishment

me too. Looks like my weight loss has also slowed. Any advice to get it back on track?

Stuck too. I lost very quickly the first 3 1/2 weeks. Been slow going for the last 3 1/2. The past week I have been up and down the same 3 lbs. Very frustrating. I have an apt with my surgeon and nutritionist next week. Hoping to figure this out then.

So tonight I am having a panic moment. I am just now looking at my insurance EOB's for my surgery that they APPROVED. They didn't pay a thing. Looks like I will be on the phone with insurance all day tomorrow. Hopefully this issue gets resolved!!

@@ekh21ash, hopefully, it gets resolved. It could be the provider used the wrong billing code. I hope you still have the approval letter. Good luck!

So for those that are complaining of being stuck, please do your research. It is part of the process. I am sorry if I sound harsh. Stalls or plateaus are part of losing weight, whether with surgery or not. That is how the human body works. Weight loss surgery is not a magic pill and the weight falls off. It is just like any other weight loss plan; the difference is, this prevents regaining. Relax and enjoy the journey. If your clothes are getting loose on you, you are fine.

Good monday everyone! I'm 6 weeks post op and I've lost 26.8 lbs. Yeah!!! I just have to say that i've been reading the eggface website WWW. theworldaccordingtoeggface.com and it has some good recipes. Last night I made the shepard's pie. I made it with turkey instead of beef with sweet potato's for the top and it was delish! I'm so tired of sweet stuff (shakes and bars) I needed so real flavor and it did the trick. I highly recommend it. I am such a southern cook I'm having to learn how to make stuff healthier and it has been a challenge, eggface has made it alittle easier. Gotta go, everyone have a blessed day!

Hello and good morning to all you losers.

@aredder: I love that site as well. It has some awesome food recipes and smoothie recipes as well.

@@Galaxy Girl: thanks for the reminder.

@ekh21ash: I hope that you can get things cleared soon.

To everyone else, keep up the good work. Take your Vitamins and meds, drink plenty of Water, eat your Proteins first and GET MOVIN'. Even if you are limited, a good walk is okay too.

Later losers!

Hey all, I'm 7 weeks out tomorrow, been doing fairly well with the weight loss although can eat about 1 cup of food each meal, went band to sleeve, eating high Protein, low fat, low carb food, been exercising by walking jogging 10km per day, started to feel exhausted a couple of weeks ago. Have been taking my vits, averaging 40g carbs, 80 Proteins, less than 10g fat per day. Got really frustrated with the fatigue, so had a break from the exercise for 6 days, ate some bad food, although still in very small amounts. Had a couple of glasses of wine. Back on track today, tiredness gone, exercising again, however, gained 5lb during my short time off the wagon !!! I thought I may not lose, I thought id stay the same weight as only I ate small amounts ! Bit freaked out that I can gain so quickly with only taking my eye off the ball for such a short time. Also I feel like my hunger is coming back. Should I be worried ??

Yeah, you said you went off the straight path. I wouldn't worry too much about it now. Just get back to your plan ASAP. And learn from what just happened. Thanks for sharing.

I started going to the gym recently to do cardio and light weights to tone and we'll I seem to be doing OK for the most part. I am still having trouble using the restroom #2 lol hopeful soon I can go regular. Or the new regular. Does anyone know if it's bad to always take colace? A pill. I've been using that to help me go and takes about a day and I take one every 2 days but I'm not to find of taking pills so that's why I ask. Any who good luck everyone we are all doing a great job! Now just imagine come December I can't wait . The holidays will definitely be different this time around ")

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
