Who eats McDonalds post op?

Recommended Posts

Maybe try telling yourself "I choose not to eat these foods" Instead of saying you can't hav them...!! It's really difficult, but wow I never want to go thru this again, after everything I went thru the last 4 weeks, forget McD's, or my favorite mexican resturant..I want the weight loss more than the burger, or Burritos'..Good Luck!!

I'm on the road quite a bit daily for work. Sometimes when I catch myself without my Protein Drinks or lunch, I will go to El Pollo Loco and get a chicken taco al carbon. Its like a street taco and a little over a dollar. I only eat the chicken and its just enough to keep me satisfied and get my Protein in!

I could not help but reply to this post. I think about my experience with battling with my weight and what I went through to have my surgery (paying out of pocket for the whole thing). I just feel amazed that so early out or even in the pre-op stage anyone is thinking about eating McDonalds. My thought is I never want to go back to being 300lbs again in my life so whatever I have to do I am going to do it. These days and the days of the individuals I know are successful with weight loss and weight loss maintenance are more focused on Protein, Vitamins, getting veggies in, drinking at least 70oz of liquids. I am wondering how anyone 6 weeks out is able to eat pizza. I am 8 weeks and three days... and I barely get my 1/4 to 1/2c of food in. Also, how did you get past your fears to try McDonalds and pizza after all that was taught in the NUT classes? They scared me to death so I haven't touched the stuff nor do I have an interest in trying it.

In 2 months and 3 days, I have managed to loss 61lbs. I am so determined to reach my goal. Their isn't a burger, fry, pizza, soda, candy bar, ice cream or cookie that could alter what I want most. My health, no medicines, no hypertension, a non-diabetic... I guarantee you once you start seeing the weight drop... your desires for that burger will go away. Don't set yourself up for failure before you even have the surgery! Just think about why you decided to have the surgery and what you see in your future.

I know it is not realistic to believe that you will deprive yourself for the rest of your life but it is realistic to deprive yourself for 1-2 years until you are healthy and know how to properly eat in portions. The first year is suppose to be your best year... give yourself a fighting chance for at least that year.

I am also continuing my counsel post op. My thoughts are food is my crack and when individuals on crack want to break the habit... they go to rehab. My rehab is my counseling so I can figure out why I would let myself even get 300lbs.

This is not a judgment... just a thought!

Occasionally I'll do an egg white delite minus 1/2 the muffin, but I've never been a fan of their hamburgers. I do eat other burgers occasionally. Always a kids meal, just the meat and maybe a few fries, counted in my daily totals.

Be aware that your best\easiest loss will occur over your first year. After that, I'm told it gets harder\takes more work. You'll want to figure that in to your plan for how much you have to lose as far as pacing. I've lost 85\90 pounds now in month 9. I may decide to go as low as 135 for an even 100 pound loss if continues to come off fairly easily. I do exercise hard 5 days per week for an extra calorie burn or about 600\day, so that helps, a lot. My pacing has been deliberate though. If I can eat 1200 calories per day now and still lose weight, maintenance will be much easier in the long run.

I know for me it might be a slippery slope as for me I used to start with the, oh I will have half once in a while, then I'd move to once a month , etc then I weighed 303 and knew I had zero control, but a rationale for everything I shouldn't have. I hope I can wait it out a year before a fast food burger trial run :) but I hope longer

Looks like MFP has nutrition info available on fast food items. I believe Livestrong has them listed as well (but don't quote me on that...it's been a while since I've used them for looking up food)

My observation is that there are a couple of different approaches. There are those who have to cut everything cold turkey so that they won't be on a slippery slope back to where they were, and there are those who need to feel like they have wiggle room. I think this is a personality issue rather than a success issue, too.

I don't do well with mega-restrictions. I personally don't feel that there is anything that is off limits, but there are plenty of things that are poor choices. So I have a commitment to tracking everything and making good choices 90% of the time.

We have "nicer" fast food places that have a lot of choices here, like Patio and Portillos, and if we do fast food, that's where we tend to go. It's really rare that I will order a burger these days but if I do I like to order a better one than a McD's and eat half of it or less.

No judgement - just MY thoughts for ME! I swore to myself that if I was ever given the opportunity to have the surgery - I would never go back to the way I was - size wise and miserable. If eating fast food was a contributor to my weight then to me it's no longer an option. It's easier for me to avoid something if I tell myself I can't have it than if I had to CHOOSE not to have it. I am not on a diet - I have chosen to live a better and healthier lifestyle.

I have mcd's once frequently for a Breakfast burrito. I have 1, 300 calories and that's it for 4 hours. I have had their chicken wrap once in awhile I have had maybe 2 double cheeseburgers over the past 8 months. I can eat maybe 80%, but usually less. I have no room for anything else and I don't eat till I am uncomfortable. I had a plateau but it's starting to move again. I am about 15 lbs above my goal. In the past 6 months I have lost 11 lbs but interestingly my body lost 14 lbs of fat , gained 1 lb of muscle and 2 lbs of Water. My nutritionist likes that I get 100 gm of Protein in my diet. Without Protein shakes , which I came to detest after the pre op and immediate post op period, I need to eat fish, meat, chicken, eggs and greek yogurt. So, long story longer, I do eat mcd's but not much and not often and it's not been a problem. I don't get cravings for it at all, it's just food.

well, everyone, it's surprising that my question has gotten all the traffic it has! i'm happy to read that for the most part, everyone realizes they are human and allow some room for the occasions of eating out.

i am now post op and truthfully i have ZERO food cravings. McD's still sounds good, but my hubs and kids had it the other day and it was fine for me to sit and watch!

in time, i will have to face the reality of eating again and my appetite WILL return. it will be interesting to see how it goes!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
