Any May 20th surgeries out there?

Recommended Posts

So I am home now! Had no real issues.. feeling pretty good... achy, a little sore, and my neck is hurting. I feel a lot better than I thought I would. Had a Hiatal hernia repair while they were in there, so a bit more restriction by way of getting my fluids in. Gotta stay hydrated. Having no Constipation issues, as a matter of fact, quite the opposite lol..

How is everyone else fairing?

Teemarie, great news. Proud of you and everyone else that started this journey.

I am supposed to get in 60 grams of Protein and 60 ounces of liquids. It's a struggle for sure. Got a 15 min alarm going all day as a reminder.

I will say the Isopure RTD's are great for this. It's not a mixed protein. It's like crystal light, but with 40 grams of protein, thanks to the whey protein isolate which is the fastest absorbing protein you can get.

When was your surgery? I am on Clear Liquids until Sunday, then I can start shakes... my stomach is gurgling like it's hungry, but I know it's not. Glad you are doing well

Mine was yesterday.

Your stomach is making sounds too? Mine really started sounding/feeling like its hungry. Not head hunger--stomach hunger. Regardless I don't feel like eating.

Thanks for sharing.

Hey all I'm doing well. My surgery was at9:30 am 5/21. I am home and doing well. I have been walking all day. Every hour. The pain was moderate but not unmanageable. The most pain comes from center of chest were I can feel the hernia repair. I have been sipping on Water and ice chips all day. I will start broth tomorrow. I have 4 ounce cups so I will sip one very hour. My surgeon sent me home with compression socks for next three days. And a small machine that helps lungs, I am to breath in it every hour. I start liquid anti biotics in the morning. I had Nausea when I woke up from anesthesia but none now. I am sleeping in the bed sitting up. Still walking throughout the night. I will walk out side tomorrow if I can. Okay later everyone. We will see what day 2 brings.

Hi everyone! I had my surgery on Monday 19th May and I am in far more pain than I anticipated. Was discharged yesterday on day 3 and just feel kind of lost to honest. I know this was the right thing to do for my health but at the same time feel a bit of a failure that I couldn't control my eating on my own and be strong enough to not eat all the foods I know are bad for me. Anyway, I have been sleeved and am excited to start losing weight- have lost 7lbs since surgery on Monday and am excited to finally start living my life! For those that also had surgery this week- how are you all feeling? And what is you post-diet like? Having just been on clear liquids for two days I am scared to move on to the next stage! Looking forward to getting to know you all:)

Thank you Improving me for the well wishes. I'm moving forward just following the rules.

Deelb, I am taking it slow, just got sleeved yesterday. I've been on Water and ice chips all day. Today going to try broth. I woke up ever hour and walked. I will walk every hour tomorrow and the gradually increase my distance and lower the amounts of walks I take. I have little gas in my left shoulder. It's bother some but not unbearable. Gas strips and walking have helped with that. No real incision pain, more like muscle soreness in my entire abdomen. I was having trouble urinating but after a couple hours, I'm like a water well, lol. Still no BM, hoping for one sooner rather than later.

It's just over 24 hours since my op. I feel like crap. Constant nausea which I keep taking meds for because of course nobody wants me vomiting. I have 5 keyholes and 3 of them are extremely sore. Am looking forward to feeling better. Still happy I've had it though

Just remember that you just had surgery. You had a bowel cleansing before surgery and you were on a clear liquid before surgery. You have not consumed much to help you make a bowel movement. Remember nothing in nothing out and to make matters worse being put to sleep for surgery also slows your gut. It all works it's self out though especially with water intake and walking.

I had my surgery may 20th around 9:30am and was able to come home yesterday. I'm having lots of gas pains, been taking gas x but it's not working that well. I've also been very nauseated and have actually thrown up 2 or 3 times. (Hurts like heck!) Hopefully today I will start feeling better. I hope everyone else is doing well!

I did so well in the hospital only to come home and have a horrible night last night. I was up every 1-2 hours just walking, letting Water hit me in the shower, and sitting up right. I made the mistake of thinking I only needed the anti nausea medicine if I was consuming something. At 4 am I woke up with terrible pain.

I'm struggling with determining what is gas pain, what is is pain from my incision ( I have one incision that is sooooo sore), and if it's my stomach that wants something or is just nauseous. I was a wreck not knowing what to do. I'm trying to stay a head if the nausea medicine. I've been eating pops and Powerade. I have no problem staying hydrated. I tried to incorporate some Protein in my broth-I think I had too much because I spit some back up. Along with some bile. That was no fun.

This is rough. Who ever said we took the easy way out....hah! This sure as hell ain't easy. I hope everyone is having a good recovery.

Definitely not the easy way out at all!! Easy would have been staying the way we were!!! Feeling ok today... Maybe overdoing it with walking. No incision pain , but pain in my chest if I breathe to deep... Prob from hernia repair... A little cramping/gurgling/am I hungry feelings coming from my belly lol

Just drinking my Water slow, may treat myself to a sugar free ice pop for dinner... Whoo hoo

About to take my first shower in 3 days so that's also exciting lol

Hope everyone is feeling alright!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
