Post Op March 2014

Recommended Posts

Follow up appt with my surgeon today. Everything looks good. Weight loss is beginning. He said mine may seem slower because I didn't start with very large numbers to lose. Took my drain out today. That was a creepy feeling but glad it's out! Now waiting to meet with my nutritionist.

Doing well! No appetite which I'm loving. food is just like heh whatever to me. Finally getting more fluids in. Gas pains have subsided, energy is still depleted but am enjoying these naps. Lost all the surgery Water weight plus a few extra... I'm finally joining those on the losers bench and it feels Ah-mazing! :-P

It has been 18 days since surgery. I'm down 18 lbs. A pound a day is not bad. I'm trying to eat more solid foods. I bought some baby spoons so I don't eat to fast. I have mastered yogurt and applesauce. The doctor said I could eat puree foods but I just can't bring myself to do that. I'm trying to cut things up really, really small and it seems to be working. The other problem is that I'm eating so slow that my food gets cold fast. I guess it is a small price to pay to not upset my pouch.

For those of you who have had surgery, did you find it uncomfortable to sleep in your own bed when you got home? My surgery is Monday and I was wondering if I needed to invest in a wedge or bed rest pillow. I've heard that some people have to sleep in a recliner for the first week or so.

Hey everyone. 10 days out and I'm going good. I still don't get all the liquids in, I try but gosh it's a lot. I've been able to eat 4 oz cream of chicken Soup strained with 1/2 scoop of Protein, strained cream of mushroom soup with 1/2 scoop protein, 1/3 cup regular cream of wheat with 1/2 scoop protein. Also doing 4 oz Protein Shakes throughout the day. My go to at this point is 8oz hot tea with whey protein, very yummy and easy on the tummy. I've been adding 1 item a day and seeing how it goes. Tomato Soup didn't work well, it went right threw, but at least it didn't make me throw up. Tomorrow I'm going to try the pureed re-fried Beans with a little fat free sour cream. Very exciting stuff. Down a total of 19 pds since the start of the 2 week Meal Replacement - I'll take that. Hope your all doing well. Have a great weekend.

Most people prefer a recliner so the first night I slept half the night in the recliner but found I needed my bed so I migrated there and put like 4 pillows under my head and two on each side of me and that was most comfortable. I like napping in the recliner throughout the day but prefer my bed at night. My fiancée has been on the couch because he is scared of hurting me lol. I appreciate the whole bed to myself I really do. I thought it would be a pain to get out of because it's the gel infused memory foam but it is heavenly I have no pressure points and I feel no pulling in any area on my belling like I do in the recliner. In the recliner I wake up a lot and have to readjust myself. I've got this roll out thing down getting out of bed not using my abdomen muscles. I think you will find whatever works best and makes you most comfortable fairly quick. I didn't need to buy anything, there wasn't anything comfortable I couldn't make without adding a few blankies or pillows that I already have :)

I didn't have a recliner or money to buy one so I slept in a bed. The first two night I slept in the guest bed to keep my dogs away from me and then I moved to my own bed. I used lots and lots of pillows to kind of keep me propped up. I also bought a body pillow to lean on which has been very helpful even though I've had to fight my dogs to keep custody of it at night.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
